Just a board to talk about animation
blunders in any of the Spiderman cartoon
series

Funny you should start this. I was just thinking the other day of an ep from the old 1960's cartoon entitled, "Mr. Noah Body," the one I think where the entire island of Manhattan is lifted into the air (I forget why) and eventually brought back down, and everything was hunky dory. Yeah, right. What about all the underground subways, pipes, electrical whatchimacallits and whatnot that would take years to repair? Not to mention all the people who would've fallen to their deaths into the pit left behind, many in their own cars or public transportation, then buried, never to have open casket funerals when the island was returned to its rightful place. I don't know why I never thought of that till just the other day.

I did like the webshooter sound effects, though, but not the fact that (understandably, given the time) only Spidey's head, gloves and boots had the webbing pattern on it. JJJ's voice was more or less like it should've been, I guess.

Did anyone ever notice how each series contradicts the previous one? The first show starred Betty Brant. The show was somewhat watered down for kids because Peter had no love interest. By the way, Dr. Noah Body wasn't in any cartoons in which Manhattan was levitated! In fact, the same scenes were used in 2 cartoons! The third season, with short stories, hadn't been syndicated in America for years!

The live action Electric Company stories [Spidey Super Stories] were so short that PBS could easily market them on a videotape! Though Spidey didn't talk, I'd buy them! What about you? I used to have a Peter Pan/Power record with Spidey Super Stories! Please refer to another board for the goofy live action series!

In the Amazing Friends cartoons, Angelica Jones sure resembled Mary Jane! Xavier and Cyclops appeared in 3 of those cartoons, with Wolverine in the second, and Storm in both that one and the 3rd one! Why was Wolverine dropped from the 3rd cartoon? I think that the actor who played Spiderman had reprised his role from the 70's Peter Pan/Power records and comic book. I'm referring to the record with Invasion of the Dragon Men & 4 other stories. Though I still have that story and the comic book, I mistakenly gave away the big 12" record.

A very campy Spiderman cartoon show, with a brunette Betty Brant and Jameson's nephew Mortimer, is currently being rerun on UPN on Sunday mornings, right after the X-MEN.

Finally, the Fox series is the best thanks to the realism. However, I miss Betty Brant. Also, John Jameson was in the story with the Rhino and the parasitic alien costume. I sure would have liked to have seen John become the Man-Wolf. I sometimes whish that I still had that Peter Pan/Power comic book and record, THE MARK OF THE MAN-WOLF! That story would make a great cartoon! A retelling of the Fantastic 4's origin and CAPTAIN AMERICA & THE FALCON: AND A PHOENIX SHALL ARISE [with the son of Baron Zemo] were also on the record. Some versions included THE INCREDIBLE HULK AT BAY [with both the Abomination and the Rhino].

All of those records are out of print! Also, Peter Pan seldom credited the authors/artists and never credited the actors! I couldn't get any copyright information from either the label or the studios! Even GAF never credited anyone from their old Talking ViewMaster small records! Eventually, I may copy that Dragon-Men story, edit out the redundant sound effect to turn the pages, and either post the story to the Internet or sell it via an auction! Personally, I'd rather trade it for a lost 12" record!

I loved that theme song!

Spiderman...Spiderman
does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size
Catch a thief just like flies
Look out! Here comes the Spiderman!
Is he strong? Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing on a thread
Take a look over head
Hey there, there goes the Spiderman.
In the chill of night at the scene of a crime
Like a stream of light, he arrives just in time.
Spiderman, Spiderman..friendly neighborhood Spiderman
Welcome friend, he's in yours
Action is his reward to him
Life can be a big bang up
Whenever there's a hang up
You'll find the Spiderman!!!!!!!!

I hope when (if) the do a full length
movie, they have this song in it!

"Welcome friend, he's in yours

I am pretty sure it's

"Wealth and fame, he's ignored
Action is his reward
To him life can be a big bang up..."

Man, TeleToon has been showing this series. The first season stories were so short, there was no time for any explanations as to where these villains come from or how they got their powers.

Now they're at the second season, and it seems to have started over the story. Yesterday, it's the Spiderman origin story and today's episode featured the King Pin.

Anyway...it's fun to watch these old episodes just for the fun of seeing how bad the animation is and how weird the stories are.

The classic 1967 cartoon series comes out on DVD Jun. 29!

By John A. Lang on Monday, April 26, 2004 - 8:29 pm:

Just a few notes about the classic 1967 series...

Didn't anyone else notice how long it took Spidey to get from Point A to Point B? They used a lot of repeat footage in the web-slinging scenes. A lot of times, the scenes were flipped to make it appear that Spidey was swinging from another direction.

The jazzy music...sometimes it got a little monotonous.

Goofy scenarios...the levitation of Manhattan is by far the goofiest.

Anyone notice the spelling mistake in the opening credits of the 60's cartoon. When Spiderman looks down onto the jewelry store, it is spelled "Jewlry". Afew seconds late, when Spiderman swings down, the spelling changes to the proper spelling. I guess the "scpipt supervisor" during the first season of Star Trek worked as an animator on Spiderman.By the way, I just found this website, and I love it!

Welcome aboard from the finder of the Scpipt Supervisor Snafu! :)

Speaking of speling-missteaks, how about the one where half the time people write Spiderman, when it's actually supposed to be Spider-Man. Stan Lee put the hyphen in there on purpose!!!

Mmmmmmmm, steak!!!

There certainly was A LOT of green-skinned baddies near the end of the series.
