My step-grandson gave me this game for Chrsitmas. And I can only say one thing.

Good!!!!

Hmm. My software pirate friend gave me this and I can only say five things.

Boring. Repetitive. Eternally and needlessly complicated. Completely random. Very poor graphics.

Not good, in other words.

Peter.

In your opinion. How so? How so? Rubbish. Compared to what? (In that order)

And find other words next time, both of you.

LOL - I didn't know you could edit posts. And if you moderators can, why not the rest of us.

Compared to Baldur's Gate, BGII is better, but I just do not find either any fun. I do not see the attraction of forever wandering around a dungeon or a park, casting spells on Golems. As soon as you reach one part of the game, you want to move on to the next. As soon as you start a conversation, you want it to end (and the way it runs is very annoying BTW - no matter what you say the result is always the same, so why give you a choice in the first place?). One cannot be happy with the game until it is finished, and that is not a satisfactory game. There seems to be no strategy, and the only bit of the game that requires any thought and intelligence is probably the first bit, where you select the character. But as you wil only do this once, it is rather a •••••• system.

To be fair, I am not much of a fan of RPG games. I am very much a real time strategy player, and anything that does not involve either marching a massive army into battle or fragging other people is automatically worse in my view. Even so, I love Deus Ex, and I cannot see why BG2 did so well in the charts, but Deus Ex did so badly, despite the undeniable superiority of the latter game in nearly every category of judgement.

Peter.

To all,
I have just tried making a B.G. role-playing board under the kitchen sink, Role-playing boards, and then you should see B.G. give it a try!

Hm. The board seems a bit . . . quiet.

The game, however, is still going strong, with people making mods and additions. I've helped make one such, a new NPC, Hubelpot. Those of us who worked on him are now looking for folks to beta-test the newest version.

Character description:

Hubelpot is a contented family man, a druid, and a vegetable merchant. If you really pressed him, he'd probably say that he ranked them in that order of importance. However, he's never found the 3 in confllict & probably would only answer any questions about their relative importance to please you.

He's in his mid-forties and has been married to Morag for more than twenty years. Their sixteen-year-old son, Hamlish, works in the Five Flagons as an apprentice baker.

He is not, by nature, an adventurer. He takes pride in his work and enjoys his life; the only reason he ends up with your party is tha the has a strong sense of honor. This isn't Yoshimo's get-yourself-geased-to-take-revenge sort of honor but a more matter-of-fact sense that if someone has helped you it's apropriate to help them in turn.

In terms of his relationship to others, Hubelpot is a basically good, decent sort of person. He likes people and he is interested in their interests. This means that he is genuinely interested in Jan's rambling tales, Anomen's deeds of glory, Mazzy's dreams of being a paladin and Cernd's nature tales. There's no ulterior motive or faking here; he just likes people. likes to cook & he's proud of his abilities in this area. He's also intensly curious about what it is other people like to eat and will do his best to provide it.

If you are willing to test him, please go to: forums.spellholdstudios.net take a look, and then send me or SConrad a PM for the password to the beta-testing forum.
