Fallout Series

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: PC Games: The Games: Fallout Series
By MarkN on Sunday, August 19, 2001 - 12:59 am:

I recently got the 2-pack of this game (only $9.99!), which has Fallout 1 and 2 and it's lots of fun, although frustrating at times, too. I started F2 and didn't get very far into it cuz I want to finish F1 first, but I'm stuck there, in Junktown. If anyone's played it before or is now could you please help me in this section? Thanks.

I thought Fallout 1 had a lot of bugs in it. For instance, I ended up going on a campaign to kill one of Junktown's less welcome citizens (with the loca authorities)about three times (it was the same guy over and over again!) and no-one in the game batted a proverbial eyelid!

That said, I do like this game. And yes, I also got the two games in the one package.

I got the Dual Jewel flip over package, so there's no free strat guide or anything but that's ok cuz I have some walkthrus bookmarked.

Anyway, my problem is this: the first thing I did when I got to Junktown is go to that room with the two guards and the manhole leading down to Doc Morbid and the midget and killed those two, then went upstairs and killed the two guards (I half-expected everyone in town to come after me and Ian like in the Raider Camp but it never happened, not at this point), and then I went to spend the night in that Inn and then rescue the woman being held hostage. I'm supposed to be able to talk to him and keep him from killing the girl but it never happens cuz the right dialog tree doesn't appear. I've got this part saved twice. Once just after killed all the other bad guys in the Inn and once before (kill one Skulz here and they all come running). I tried talking to him unarmed but he eventually shoots at me and then kills the girl.

I've also gone to Killian's, and after I talk to him Kenji comes in and tries to kill him, as is expected. Sometimes I help kill Kenji and get 400xp for it, as well as lose lots of hit points (I'm up to 61). If I do kill Kenji then I try talking to Killian again to get the tape recorder but the talk icon doesn't come up. Only the binocs one does.

I've got 5 saved slots total, two at the Raider Camp so I might just start over from there, cuz I'm really at a lost here. Maybe I shouldn't've killed the doc and midget yet or at all, huh? That's the only thing that I can think of that might be causing this.

I had a demo of the first one and it looked okay for it's time but then I saw it among other classics like alone in the dark for something really cheap which sortof says something to me

The new "Alone In The Dark" isn't supposed to be all that good, from what I've read.

I haven't finished Fallout 1 and 2 yet but now I've started Fallout Tactics, which looks much better and has slightly different controls on its HUD but geez, it's so hard to kill someone while they can kill you so easily (just like the first two). It really takes a lot of brainpower to come up with strats to get thru the hard parts. I've played it for like maybe 2 hours, give or take, but didn't progress very far cuz it's so hard.

If your character's intelligence isn't high enough, then you don't get as many dialogue options.

True. My main FT guy, Mick, I gave high intelligence. Of course, now that I'd since finished that game and just yesterday finally got around to removing it from my harddrive, it's really not important anymore. However, I'd started playing Fallouts 1 and 2 again, although it's been some weeks now cuz I got back into Baldur's Gate, and then Soldier of Fortune 2. I've got lots of games to finish, let alone start, but I tend to take my time.
