I created this file to talk about Activision's "Interstate" series. If there are no posts within a week, I'll list the nits I've discovered.

The only racing game I have is Star Wars: Racer, based of course on the podrace in Phantom Menace. It's pretty fun and looks much better on my new monitor. I play it now and then.

Racing? This is a car combat game (sorta like "Twisted Metal").
Anyway, here are the nits I've discovered:
Interstate '76
-While Groove talks with Taurus at the Gas-4-Cash, the Pirahna has two machine guns on the roof. When it leaves, one of the machine guns has been replaced by a rocket launcher.
-When Taurus tunes into the Creeper radio transmission, Disco Cat says they're "down five cars and five drivers." I counted six each. (The Pony, Coupe, and Leprechaun attacking the Wagon Wheel, Lead Sled's Rattler and those two Ponies.)
-When Malocchio shoots open Taurus' trunk, we see the bullet holes until the trunk opens. The holes disappear when the trunk is closed.
-While Groove gases up at the Gas Parade, a Cavera and a Royale race across the desert to destroy the place. Both cars have guns mounted on their roofs. When you regain control of Groove, the guns on the Royale's roof disappear. (Because Royales don't have weapon mounts on the roof.)
-The Phaedra Clydesdale is supposed to represent the Ford Bronco in the Interstate universe. However, the Bronco that is represented was introduced in 1978. (The game takes place in 1976.)
I'76 Nitro Pack
-The Palomino attacking Taurus in the opening sequence has guns on the roof. Palominos don't have roof mounts for weapons.
Interstate '82
-The opening screen features Taurus' Fiarello armed with two light machine guns on the front bumper and a heavy machine gun and a karpoon on the roof. In the game itself, this arrangement is impossible.
-When Taurus shoots him, Rank Dick spins away so that he faces away from Taurus when he falls. Yet, when Taurus checks his body, he's laying on his back. Also, the bomb isn't on his back until Taurus turns him over.
-If you take the Stag Truck in the ravine in mission 9, you'll find it has a Radar Shield. Except when you customize it, there's no shield.
-The Chevrolet El Camino is called the Courcheval Hacienda in Nitro Pack, but it's called the Courcheval El Paseo in I'82.

-The title and Taurus' narration at the beginning indicate the game is set in late 1982. However, the end shows Taurus was actually responsible for shooting Reagan and not John Hinckly. Hinckly shot Reagan in April of 1981.

Car combat, ok. I'm not into those types of games and didn't even know the name of that genre so I just thought you meant racing games. Are Carmeggadons 1 and 2 car combat games? All I know of those is that you run over pedestrians, and I guess avoid the cops. Too bad we can't do that in real life with some pedestrians or especially college bike riders who have no regards for the road rules or red lights and who drive 3 or 4 abreast, hogging the lane.

I don't think so. I think they're just really gory racing games. Car combat games usually involve cars armed with guns shooting at each other.

BTW, I've found something hidden in "Interstate '76". On level 3, just weaken the Leprechaun and Strider that attack you and let Taurus destroy them. Then, listen to his comment.
