Mechcommander and Mechcommander Gold are both rather old RTS style games set in the Battletech universe. Gold is basically the original game with some extra missions in it. They aren't still published as far as I know.
Set during Operation Bulldog and the actions against Clan Smoke Jaguar, Mechcommander centres round the actions on the world of Port Arthur, a world in House Kurita space.
Here's a question, one that could apply to all Mechwarrior games with Clans and Clan mechs in it. Quite often you are ambushed by Smoke Jaguar forces using Jump Jet equipped mechs, for example a trinary of Ullers appearing from the side. Don't the Clans consider Jump jets and similiar things as dishonourable tools of combat.
It depends on the Clan in Question, & their attiude to the Inner Sphere in general.
Some Clans (Smoke Jaguar, Ghost Bear & Clan Wolf) regard any Inner Sphere units as "Dezgra" or Dishonourable, & therefore are fair game.
Other Clans, would find the use of such tactics repellant, & not use them. It basically depends on the Clan in question.
FASA, in one of their Mechwarrior Sourcebooks dealing with the Clans, published a table on how a particular Clan unit would react in the circumstances, given the situation & other factors i.e if it was a "Home" or "Invading" Clan which was being attacked etc
Hope this helps
Douglas,
Mechcommander Gold was Published (In Europe, at least) By Infogrames.
It was sold as a "Value" game, & the packaging was a Amary DVD case, rather than a full box. The Documentation was on the disc as a PDF File & came with the Reader software.
All in All, the best $7.50 i've spent on a game
I did get Mechcommander Gold in a standard CD case for about £5 out of Asda.
