NightFire

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: PC Games: The Games: NightFire
By D. Stuart on Sunday, August 10, 2003 - 6:23 am:

I recently purchased a ten-dollar copy of the PC version of NightFire. I have a question (a few, actually): where is the option for weapons in multi-player? I've looked everywhere. The weapons are apparently determined by which type of game setting you choose (i.e., Combat Training, Capture the Flag, etc.). But even after selecting Capture the Flag, all the same weapons were flooded throughout the level.

Furthermore, what's the deal with those hover-scintillating icons of a human skull, Duracell battery, and body armor? They seemed to only materialize during Capture the Flag. Otherwise, I love that MP9 minigun! What's its location in the Romania map/arena for the Capture the Flag setting? Speaking of which, the Romania multi-player level is reminiscent of N64's The World is Not Enough's Istanbul multi-player level. And from what I've read describing the level, NightFire's Night Shift level sounds quite similar to the aforementioned N64 game's Night Watch single-player mission.

In my PC copy of NightFire, Wai Lin, Xenia Onatopp, Francisco Scaramanga, May Day, Jaws, Renard, Oddjob, and Baron Samedi are already available in multi-player. Why then is it specified how to earn them via completion of single-player levels? Why the absence of Alec Trevelyan 006 from multi-player (he's available in both GoldenEye and The World is Not Enough)? Is there a golden gun setting a la N64's GoldenEye and The World is Not Enough's (The Man with the) Golden Gun multi-player option? Great game, in summary. Thank you.

"Furthermore, what's the deal with those hover-scintillating icons of a human skull, Duracell battery, and body armor? They seemed to only materialize during Capture the Flag. Otherwise, I love that MP9 mini-gun!"--Me.

More hover-scintillating POWER icons include paired ammo clips and a red winged shoe. I've figured out this much: the body armor power icon endlessly replenishes your armor plates whenever you're hurt, the human skull power icon increases your damage exerted onto opponents, the red winged shoe power icon augments your speed by at least threefold, and the paired ammo clips power icon does the same thing the body armor power icon does but only for ammunition. So that just leaves the Duracell battery. Perplexing.

I believe I was mistaken when referencing that mini-gun. Instead, it's cleped Phoenix International Experimental Laser Rifle. Magnificent little gem of a weapon. However, where is this weapon in the Office multi-player map/arena for Capture the Flag? For that matter, I couldn't find the Suisse SG5 Commando. And how do you reach that body armor power icon behind the security desk by the elevators? I couldn't leap over the surface.

What is the Phoenix International X6 Annihilator? Meanwhile, I remain frustrated that I can't find the option to modify the weapon availability in each multi-player round.

By D. Stuart on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 - 11:42 am:

In Capture the Flag, I found the Suisse SG5 Commando in the Office multi-player level around that second-floor cafeteria area.

Where are the Atlantis, Sub Pen, and Missile Silo multi-player maps/arenas? Is there an MI6 Operative weapon setting and/or PP7 Gold, Golden Gun, and P2K Gold? I'm gathering that these features are exclusive to one or both of the game console versions.

The Island and Jungle multi-player maps/arenas are, respectively, similar to N64's GoldenEye's Launch Silo and Cuban Jungle single-player levels.

By D. Stuart on Sunday, August 17, 2003 - 2:59 pm:

A few self replies: that Suisse SG5 Commando was found in the cafeteria area (accessible by stairs) in the Office multi-player level in Team Combat Training. I still haven't found it in Capture the Flag after all. And to leap over the security desk to obtain the body armor power icon in Capture the Flag, you do a crouching jump. However, the door in the back doesn't slide open like in Team Combat Training.

In the Office multi-player map/arena in Team Combat Training, unlike in Capture the Flag, the lounge area by the security desk and elevators is blocked off with a wall. At the opposite end of the spectrum, there's a grapple hook in Team Combat Training on the bridge between the two wings of the office building visible from that lone elevator you must use your grapple cell phone to reach. In Capture the Flag, though, the hook on the bridge isn't present. Accordingly, I've yet to fathom exactly how you're intended to get off that lone elevator without plummeting to your death.

A Tuxedo MI6 Agent skin (human-controlled) during a bout in the Office multi-player level in Team Combat Training used what resembled a "photon cannon" (Agent Under Fire). Was this the Phoenix International X6 Annihilator? And if so, how do you acquire this weapon during multi-player?

During a bout in the Romania multi-player level in Capture the Flag, I swear a Commando skin (human-controlled) was firing a Phoenix International Laser Rifle (mini-gun). And a Suit MI6 Agent skin during a separate bout curiously wielded the same weapon. With both instances, I recognized the sound.

Someone from an on-line network game supplied me with information on how to possibly select weapons for multi-player. The individual instructed to go to Options or Multiplayer from the main menu and punch in numbers from my Number pad. Nothing happened. Is this at least on the right track to choosing what weapons are available and/or used during multi-player?

By D. Stuart on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 1:44 pm:

I don't believe the mini-gun is identified as the Phoenix International Laser Rifle after all, which I managed to use in the M9_Space01 multi-player level during a Capture the Flag bout--brief though it was, unfortunately. Employing cheats, I skipped to the last single-player level and rampaged around a little as Bond Space Suit (and thereby acclimating myself to the said Laser Rifle). Once more, I was able to fire away with the weapon in Capture the Flag in the Romania multi-player level, strictly due to cheat manipulation influencing the map/arena. In conclusion, I believe the mini-gun is in fact the Phoenix International X6 Annihilator.

The Duracell battery power icon has some type of a connection with the Phoenix International Laser Rifle. I believe it speedily replenishes the power cell.

There’s a hidden UP11 firearm in a crate in the Romania multi-player level. It’s on the Red Team’s side in that little alleyway by the slope that leads to one of the two character starting points. Just shoot the crate at the very end for one of its faces to shatter, revealing straw bedding with the UP11 resting comfortably in this wooden cradle.

A player by the name of TurboMan723 during an on-line network game used cheat manipulation on the Romania multi-player level. This involved at least seven dozen power icons materialized in the same spot of and numerous weapons scattered around the Blue Team’s starting point. As previously mentioned, in Capture the Flag in this level was the Phoenix International Laser Rifle, to name a few.

When joining on-line network games, I sighted quite a few unusual maps/arenas not normally available. Among them were Istanbul, Space_Station, M9_Space01 (not sure if this and Space_Station are virtually identical, and the area near the escape pod automatically blocks off thereafter when someone enters it), M8_Missile01, M6_Escape01, 03, 04, 05, and 07, M7_Island01, 02, 04, and 06, M3_Japan02, and M1_Austria02. M9_Space01, M8_Missile01, and M6_Escape03, 05, and 07 were each in Team Combat Training and done by Internet participant Pete1134. M7_Island01 was done by Internet participant []/Aecio; M8_Missile01, Istanbul, Space_Station, M9_Space01, and M7_Island01 were each in Capture the Flag. M7_Island02, 04, and 06, M6_Escape01, 03 (again), and 04, M3_Japan02, and M1_Austria02 were all in Team Combat Training and done by Internet participant [`UKF]007Bond007. All these maps/arenas, more or less, had music playing.

[`UKF]007Bond007 informed me that the Istanbul and Space_Station levels are attained via a downloadable patch from EAGames.Com. Furthermore, he alerted me to the fact that there isn’t any way of selecting weapons for multi-player before playing. Is he right?

The Island Infiltration 07 level is reminiscent of N64’s GoldenEye’s Water Caverns single-player mission. The Alpine Escape 03 level is actually the Office multi-player map/arena, save for a few locked doors and no lone elevator across from the bridge. Frankly, much of the Alpine Escape levels have a striking similarity to N64’s Perfect Dark’s Defection, Investigation, Extraction, and Mr. Blonde’s Revenge levels.

By entering +console 1 under properties (i.e., “Bond.exe” +console 1) first from the Start menu’s Programs’ icon, you can have some fun in multi-player. Create your own game and commence. Once active, press ~ and type any of the cheats in order to manipulate your game. I was able to access the M1_Austria01, M3_Japan03 and 04 (great level), M4_Infiltrate05 (though it crashes when you reach a certain area), M5_Power02, M6_Escape07, M8_Missile03, and M9_Space01 multi-player counterparts. Most (if not all) of them appeared in Capture the Flag, despite the Team Combat Training setting, and with music.

All the other unlisted multi-player levels immediately initiated with a black screen. However, by dispensing a flash grenade, it “illuminates” the black screen “traps.” But this is apparently a temporary solution for some, like M2_Airfield01 and M5_Power01, but not for others, like M1_Austria01 and 03, M4_Infiltrate03, M6_Escape01, 05, and 06, M7_Island02 and 05, and M8_Missile02. The M1_Austria01 and 03 and M6_Escape05 multi-player levels are tremendously small, while the M5_Power02 and M8_Missile02 and 03 multi-player levels are all a one-time deal. That is, the latter will inevitably end with frustrated combatants, as they either drown or end up trapped atop of an elevator.

You can also spawn items and weapons, like the Phoenix International Laser Rifle and X6 Annihilator. However, overlaying the space suit onto yourself malfunctions the game when you get killed sporting the said garment. In other words, a game crash.

I downloaded the patch that enables me to delve into the exclusive Istanbul and Space_Station multi-player levels. There’ll soon be comments abound.

Lo and behold, there's a second hidden UP11 on the Blue Team's side in the Romania multi-player level. In the similarly situated alleyway by the slope that leads to one of the two character starting points, you must shoot at the largest box's face on the side. Same straw bedding and same firearm.

The M3_Japan04 multi-player map/arena is undoubtedly my favorite hacked single-player turned multi-player level. And after exploring the actual single-player mission using cheats (e.g., I skipped ahead to this level and made myself invisible), I discovered that there is in fact a grappling hook above the balcony that overlooks the terrace. This balcony is upstairs in that library section with the dual staircases. As a multi-player level, the grappling hook is still there, but not as visible. Likewise, there's a golden dragon statue in Alexander Mayhew's bedroom (i.e., the room with the king-sized bed and big-screen TV). Pressing it reveals a concealed safe with a keycard inside. It works both in single-player and multi-player.

I've already tried to download the NightFire patch for my PC copy of the game and install it, but I've not had much luck. Here's the story: after installing the patch, there's a Backup folder under the Nightfire folder. The Backup folder contains files Bond.exe, client.dll, engine.dll, game.dll, gui.dll, and readme.txt. I didn't do anything to these files and simply started the game like I usually do, only every time I made the attempt to access the Istanbul Team Combat Training and Space_Station Capture the Flag levels, the game crashed. An error popup message would read, "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: Runtime! Program: C:\Program Files\EA Games\NightFire\Bond.exe. R6025-pure virtual function call." Then, during a network on-line game, I asked someone who's more aware of this process for help. He told me that you have to replace certain files under Backup folder and possibly delete client.dll. I replaced Bond.exe, client.dll, engine.dll, game.dll, gui.dll, and readme.txt with the same-named files found under the Nightfire (all the files were seemingly found here) and bond: cl_dlls and bond: dlls folders. When trying to activate the game via the Bond.exe file under Backup, it prompted me to provide the missing platform.dll file. I did so with little success. Now, I tried to replace the files both ways (i.e., the ones under Backup with the ones from the normal folders and vice versa), but neither course of action worked. Most of the time, the game wouldn't even start and get stuck on this black screen. And even after the patch removal, the normal program wouldn't run, requiring me to uninstall and reinstall the whole software. I did this on a Windows 98/2000+ computer with sufficient memory.

In the end, the first Internet participant was right, but it took a second Internet participant's advice to point me in the right direction. I got the patch to work on a computer with Windows XP by deleting file client.dll under folder cl_dlls, installing Patch 1.1, and then restoring the original client.dll to replace its newer counterpart. My question now is how to enable NightFire, after the patch's installation, to compatibly allow me to enter other people's Internet servers and vice versa.

What is an SDK and why's everyone making a big fuss regarding EA Games releasing it for NightFire?

What is the cheat that enables a server host to kick out unwelcomed guests? Additionally, what are the cheats for unlimited ammo and brighter environments in multi-player?  And I've heard something about an in-game flaw (i.e., a crossbow or crossbow-like weapon) that can be spawned but not obtained. Furthermore, I believe there's a cheat for removing/disabling bots during a game (opposite of the addbot cheat) and one for causing the server to crash. I'd very much appreciate knowing all these cheats, please.

I've used the +console 1 after "Bond.exe" under properties cheat entry in order to do the give weapon_* and changelevel m*_** cheat manipulation. Now, I have a few questions regarding the spawning of weapons/items and a particular cheat I've had mentioned to me by numerous Internet participants on many occasions. First, I've witnessed combatants in on-line network games spawning a rather long string of the same weapon, like smoke grenades or tripmines. Apparently, it's possible to quickly and abundantly generate the same weapon/item. My question is this: how do you accomplish this multiple weapon/item spawn? What's the cheat?

Enough with the questions! Right? Below is my input.

Correction: the hacked m6_escape05 multi-player map/arena is actually a much larger level than I previously evaluated. I couldn't get the gray door at the end of the hallway open, but you just have to press E around where the hinges hold the door. It'll open right up. Then, you just have to go to the main center with the spiral of floors and remain in there, while the fenced gates trap you inside, until these two double doors open. You acquire explosives therein, and the rest of the level becomes accessible.

Yes, yes, I've quickly come to realize that the Max Zorin and Nick Nack multi-player skins, Atlantis multi-player level, gold PP7 multi-player weapon, and GoldenEye multi-player mode are all only available on the Playstation 2 version of NightFire. Sad, but true.

In the Combat/Team Combat Casino multi-player level, there are two bookcases just at the top of the left staircase right after where that piano's located and beyond the Lounge gilded sign. If you press E at all three bookcases against the wall a transversal distance from the two tables with armor plates and grenades, twice usually at the last one, the two bookcases in the corner almost straight across from the Lounge gilded sign will open and reveal a secret room containing a Ronin and, I believe, some more grenades. Look closely at the said bookcase that activates the secret room. There are three books that are slightly sticking out. One's black and the other, I believe, are blue.

The scope on the winter-camouflaged sniper rifle is clearly larger. I don't know why exactly.

Correction: it is the dataDyne Central Defection, Investigation, and Extraction levels and the High Treason (not Alpine Escape) level.

Deleting the original client.dll file, installing the NightFire patch, and restoring the original client.dll file over the newer counterpart is a method that does in fact succeed in allowing you to enter other Internet servers and vice versa.

Apparently, there is a pair of eyes in the Airfield Ambush level. When you come down from the tower after protecting Nightshade, you go up a small flight of stairs with two guards and then down a small flight of stairs, at which point there ought to be one guard. In addition, in the corner on the right should be a camera, which is out of action. There is a table about knee-height. If you step back from it and line up with the left edge, there is a pair of eyes floating.

Is it just me, or is something missing between certain levels?

For example, the island level starts "Blah blah blah, blah blah blah, Oh, and by the way, Agent Mccall is kidnapped. Just in caseyou'd like to know."

Well, not exactly, but you get the idea. Doesn't this seem like a kind of important piece of information for a movie or level or something?
