In Destruction Derby 2, the cars sometimes merge into eachother during pileups (think of cell mitosis in reverse, where the cars are the cells.). this is due to a clipping bug.

Clipping is one of the most well-known bugs in games, even those with much better technology these days.

That's a big problem in sports games as well. Countless times in the NCAA football games I've seen players walk right through each other. The funny thing is that they now have some animations where if you run into a coach or chaingang member on the sidelines, they fall over in a heap!

Another common error in those games is rules violations, for several years I noticed that if you did a safety punt out of bounds, the ball was placed at that spot, when in pretty much all levels of football it is placed 30 yards from the spot of the kick. NCAA06 has fixed that at long last.

In a few racing games, there are bugs that let you drive through walls and objects. In Need For Speed : Porshe Unleashed i went through a wall while using dashboard view. the wall ghosted *into* the passenger compartment,"melted" through the dashboard, steering wheel, and the floor and through the drivers seat passing through the entire car! This freaked me out. :\

I've had that happen before too in Beed for Speed Hot Pursuit 2. I got into a wreck at full speed and wound up inside a cabin. Had to reset the race to get out of it.

In Test Drive 6 I sometimes wind up going off the track if I hit the right spot at the right speed. That is freaky because the world turns to this featureless grey fog but I am still able to race and the map still shows me moving.

Not an anomaly but an annoyance. What irritates me is how perfect the npcs are in Need for Speed Underground. I mean you try to go around a curve at speed like they do and you go sliding all over the place. You bump a car and you go flying bouncing all over the track but if they hit a car they barely slow down. You go to PIT (As in the police interceptor maneouver) them you spin out of control and get passed into last place and no matter how good or hot a car you have they start pulling away (and it doesnt matter which car you have as the handling and performance characteristics are the same for all the cars no matter what make) and you cant catch up even with full NOS burn. The game is nothign like real life and does not model it very well. I know because I've street raced in real life.

Sorry to take off on that rant but I thought it would be nice to vent.

If it makes you feel better, if you ram the NPCs head on, they stop dead and dont move again. this came in real handy in the area with the drawbridge where i would disable a car elseware in the level, and push it around to the bridge and off the gap to the barge below. :] That said, I think Need For Speed 4 (High stakes) is the best of the series, because you can edit and change just about everything including the tracks via T3ed and other progs.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind. I have managed to push them into walls and such but they do eventually reset and start running again (usually so that they pass me and take off so I can't catch up Like they got some super nitro or something.)

Havent played that. Game acquisition has been kinda put on hold until I can get a job.

This only works with the traffic cars

Oh ok. Thats not goign to do me much good, thanks though. I don't have too much trouble with the traffic cars (though when I do hit them they usually vanish form the world but have respwned a bit later.) my only problem is with the other racers.
