Weapon

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Blake 7: Season Two: Weapon
A clone of Blake is created to steal a new weapon from a rebel scientist.
By Keith Alan Morgan on Sunday, May 07, 2000 - 10:31 pm:

Summary comment: Technically these aren't clones of Blake, but duplicates created by mixing and matching similar genetic material.

How does the Blake duplicate know about Travis' 'hand gun'? It hardly seems to be the type of info needed to help recreate Blake.

Why does Servalan have Travis kill 'Blake' on the planet? It could have very easily ruined the plan. She should have gotten both Blakes, gone back to the ship, then had one go to where Travis is.

I guess Evolution is in violation of The Rule Of Life. The Clonemasters seem to believe that creating new forms is against the Rule of Life.

Orac says something like, 'There is no logic for luck.' Actually, with all the writing that has been done on luck, probability, and chaos theory, I believe this statement is probably wrong.

What happened to Orac's ability to take over any computer that contains one of Ensor's inventions? Orac seems to be relying on intercepting communication traffic, instead of actually doing any manipulation.

I was amused at the idea that Cosar tells Rashel that she is free while stranding her on the planet with himself.

Carnell says that Blake is a folk hero that Cosar admires.
Folk hero: As I said in Seek-Locate-Destroy, Blake & co. must be doing a lot of stuff that we the veiwer are not seeing.
Why would a Federation weapons scientist admire a rebel and how does Cosar know this?

That's an interesting drapery that Servalan is using for a top. Maybe it's time for a Fashions of Blakes 7 board? ;-)

IMIPac is not a very good emergency weapon. If that creature had been faster, then Cosar & Rashel would be dead. (But free to become manure.;-)

NANJAO. I wondered why such a big deal was made out of the chess game. Chess has a finite amount of moves and a computer program takes the moves that has a greater percentage of success. People on the other hand, sometimes do irrational things, like Cosar taking Rashel instead of fleeing alone. I should think that Psychostrategist Carnel is exhibiting signs of obsession, wasting money on a chess computer that could surprise & defeat him.

The range of weapon is a million Miles. Later Servalan uses the measurement Feet. What happened to the Metric system?

So why didn't Travis, or the guard, hear the weapon's warble when she was using it on them?

Blake, Gan & Avon all conveniently stay in one spot for Travis to zap them with IMIPac. Oddly enough, they all seem to stop at the same spot and none of them seem to look up the alley where Travis is.

Travis seems to be closer to Servalan than the guard she kills with IMIPac, but he isn't harmed.

Rashel tells Servalan & Travis that they've both been marked, but I don't remember hearing the gun's warble. I guess this uneducated slave grade discovered how to work IMIPac's silencer.

I presume IMIPac has different ways of marking, so you can select certain targets to be distructed. Rashel must have used the same mark for Servalan & Travis as the one for Blake & co., or she's bluffing.

Were the characters attending a silly collor contest! I also noticed after another viewing that when the federation troops are shot by Blake & Avon there is a lick of flame from the wound area. I'm sure the blast of the Liberator guns just caused the victim to collapse & fall, or are they wearing extra body armour?

It's good to see that Servilan doesn't rely entirely on Travis in her schemes.

He's rather too incompetant & crazed to be much use any more. Pity they had to get a new actor for him (anyone know why?). This short person with a receding chin does not look at all impressive.

I think Stephen Grief had already sign up to do somethign else when it came to make series 2.

Does anyone know the heights of the Travis actors? A friend & I were trying to decide whether or not he changes heights--I thought so (see above), but she says,no, they are the same height. One of those random curiosity things . . .

Not a bad episode. Some sparkling dialogue for Avon ("unless you want your last words to be "So THAT'S IMIPac"").

This is the start of this habit of Blake (or Avon) having the opportunity to kill Servalan and not going through with it for no logical reason (and vice versa). It's probably one of the few things about this series that always irked me. How times do those two face each other and not go through with it? Far too many for my liking.

No wonder Cosar is a grumpy old git- that collar looks positively hideous. Must be a wretched thing to sleep in (which he actually does at one stage!)

Rashel tells Servalan & Travis that they've both been marked, but I don't remember hearing the gun's warble. I guess this uneducated slave grade discovered how to work IMIPac's silencer.- KAM (what ever happened to him?)

Actually I think you'll find there is a portion of the scene missing. We first see Rashel enter the room unbeknownst to Servalan and Travis and then pick up the marking gun. We then cut away to a scene on the Liberator and then we jump into the middle of the conversation. Presumably there was a scene filmed but was edited out.

What happened to Orac's ability to take over any computer that contains one of Ensor's inventions? Orac seems to be relying on intercepting communication traffic, instead of actually doing any manipulation.- KAM

Just a thought- possibly after Oracs theft, the Federation started replacing vital systems with non-Ensor material. It's long shot, I know, but we have no idea of the length of time between this episode and "Orac". If we said roughly one month between episodes, three months is not entirely implausible to start a replacement plan- and vital systems would be first on the list.

BTW- that is a boom mike in shot when Blake-clone enters to talk to Cosar. (It's just after Cosar pushes Rashel away).

So why doesn't Servalan swamp the planet with guards when she gets back? They can kill Blake-clone and Rashel and get the device back, no fuss.

Actually, I don't think Servalan bathed herself in glory in this episode at all. What was the point of waiting for Blake and his crew? and then releasing them when they got there???? Her strategies in this episode were badly thought out.

KAM (what ever happened to him?)
I think he was seized by Federation troops.
