This is for diiscussing the operating systems of
various game consoles

It would be nice if someone wrote a CLI
interface to one. Imagine the possibilities
for customising and playing around with
it.

Of course, someone will have to design a keyboard
interface to it, or altleast have an on
screen keyboard for typing in commands (8 bit
NES style :).

Hrm, think it will be backwards compatable with the Playstation and PS2?

I really don't know. That was the first I'd heard of it. Keep an eye out about it.

Well, I just found out that the PS3 won't come out this year after all, as Bloomberg errantly reported, according to Playstation3 Insider. I guess it won't debut till about 2005, when the next predicted console wars will begin anew. From what I've read on the Adrenaline Vault's forums the CPU isn't even finished yet.

I thought the "Playstation 3" CPU was a 1 Ghz+ AMD Athlon ? Mind you the video rendering processor (Emotion Engine 2) will need a whole amount of upgrading, to keep up, with modern techniques !

There Have been some attempts to do so.
Sony released, in Europe a delevopment kit for the Playstation 2, which used Red Hat Linux (7.5) as a O/S. Also there is a attempt to make X-Boxes run Linux, as a O/S (Underground/Fan Programs).
In addition there were a couple of programs for the Dreamcast, using Windows CE !
