I never heard of a "Dolphin" system before.
It's the new Nintendo system. Apparently somebosy on the project team likes dolphins. (They may just have used the English word without knowing what it meant. The Japanese think English is cool and use it in their animé shows and other stuff.) The system should be a lot better than the name and probably will not bear the name "Dolphin."
How about a kitchen sink type board?
Also- I heard it was going to be called Project: Dolphin, which sounds even more . And what kind of a name is Dreamcast anyway. At least PlayStation is accurate.
Dreamcast is a synthesis between daydream and broadcast. Maybe it means something in Japanese, or maybe they just thought the English words sounded cool. It's happened before.

Kind of like we use Japanese lettering in some
music videos, and cartoons such as "Batman
Forever"?
Hey Matt, I think the PSX-2 is garbage as well (Even though I am about to buy the incredible PSX-1). At the very least, the thing looks like my old record player! And what did they do with the logo?!? Plus, with the price being around $350, in my opinion, more people would be willing to buy the Dreamcast than PSX-2.
Just wanted to let you know.
Uh, I made a mistake on the PSX board for FF Anthology. You should probably delete the 2 extra boards...Thanks in advance.

Note from Matt: Isn't it sad how some people never progressed beyond the mental level of a two-year-old, and so have to resort to throwing temper tantrums whenever they don't get their way? Tsk tsk...
Note from Matt: Ah, just see the last one. And Merry Christmas!
Note from Matt: You know, if you guys really want to argue this, then take it to email and don't clutter the boards with it.
I DID offer my email address before. But in you anxiousness to delete anything SP you also deleted my clickable name with my address!
Yes, but that's not the point. I don't want to argue this. If you feel that it's really that important to you, then you are, of course, free to email me. I don't want to continue the discussion in the manner that it's gone on, which is what I feel will probably happen if I email you, so I won't. If you want to logically, reasonably debate this, then by all means feel free to email me.
The PSX2 will sell like hotcakes.
(hotcakes sell very well, you know:)
Everybody - and their Grandma's - will buy this system.
"Why?", you may ask?
Think of the fact that Sony has about a 60+million installed user-base for the Playstation, the PSX2 is about 99.9% backwards compatible, it will probably sell for around $200 - $250, and it's carrying Sony's logo (along with Nacmo's, Square's, Midway's, . . . . .).
It'll fare very well in the picky American Market...
This reminds me of the whole "U R NOT E"
Not if it still has all the glitches that accompanied the initial Japanese release... not to mention the price.
Nothing about the PSX2 launch is as convoluted as Nintendo having to pay, what, $80 million for gloves for people who bought and played Super Mario Party 2.
There's a neat article on the history of Mario (and the gang) up at videogames.com.
Kind of an interesting read.
If Sega can pull it off...
Phantasy Star Online will probably be the funnest game ever made :)
PSX 2 might have problems as no company has held the market for two generations. At least time said that.
Didn't Nintendo hold the market for two generations, with the NES and SNES? (And arguably, the Game Boy has been the reigning champion in the handheld world for almost eleven years.)
What is all this stuff about the Game Cube? Is it really the Dolphin or just a side project?
Yes, it's really the Dolphin. And it's going to rock. Check out http://cube.ign.com for details.
The Genesis, despite its inferiority, conquered the SNES in most of the 16-bit wars. Until the very end, when the Donkey Kong country series was released and the Genesis hit its techological limits.
That really wasn't the impression I had gotten. Growing up, almost everyone I know had SNESes... not to mention that the Final Fantasies weren't made for the Genesis, thankyouverymuch!
There's a funny article in The Onion called, Ghost of Christmas Future Taunts Children With Visions of Playstation 5.
We're not quite up to Playstation 3 yet, and XBox 360 is going pretty strong. I'm not a fan of M$, but it's nice to see America being in the console business again and doing well.
Playstation 3
Now we are.
What I would like to see is console level editing approaching that of PC game level editing. In consoles, you get a block editor (simplistic level editor using premade level pieces)-if you are lucky. With PCs, you can usually edit right down to the polygon, not to mention add new textures, scripts, levels, events, etc.
PCs are going to remain superior in the game modding department, and I don't see this changing anytime in the near future. Especially because consoles are locked tight with mainstream trends with business trends being first and foremost, and with gadgets such as the iPhone, businesses are trying hard to control and micromanage every little thing they can. :/
Here is a solid discussion on that very subject from someone much more qualified about it than I will ever be.
