Manifest Destiny

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Outer Limits: Season Six: Manifest Destiny

The crew of a scientific space expedition receives a distress signal from an interplanetary battleship, and when they board it, they find it eerily devoid of life. Slowly, the rescue crew starts going insane and suicidal.

The entities decimated by the interplanetary battleship for purposes of Earth's acquisition of a planet have an interesting molecular procedure of dying: their high concentrations of molecular electricity permits them to infuse with the spacecraft's various systems. Once inosculating with all electronic equipment, any tactile contact with panels, buttons, etc., immediately infect the individual. This instills hallucinations, paranoia, etc., which leads the entire crew to attack one another. In order to prevent the epidemic from spreading, the sole survivor sacrifices his own life, but not before warning via a recorded message other Earth-originated spacecraft of the disease. However, it is too late, considering all the records from the interplanetary battleship are being downloaded onto computers on Earth.
