Paradise

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Outer Limits: Season Two: Paradise

Dr. Christina Markham and Sheriff Grady Markham live in small town America. Alzheimer's disease is slowly robbing Christina of her mother, Helen, who lives in a nursing home along with her long-time friend, Gerry. When three apparently healthy young women age and die within hours, the Markhams are baffled and frightened. Grady interviews stunned witnesses and Christina seeks medical explanations, hoping to prevent another tragedy. Only after Helen and Gerry vanish is the astonishing answer to the puzzle finally revealed.

Ultimately, three out of four of the elderly yet briefly young women died from accelerated senescence. One of the four, who is the female protagonist’s mother, aspires to succeed in fertilization and parturition of an infant from an egg that was implanted into her and the three other women forty years ago by a female extraterrestrial entity, whose species had long since become nonexistent. The alien consequently vanished into oblivion, but the hope of continuation of her species remained. The egg takes forty years to mature, and a device that rejuvenates a human being for a short duration was left behind for the women to use when the time came for birth. The other three women failed because they attempted to fertilize the egg with individuals with whom they were not in love. The remaining member, though, fornicated with a man she deeply loves. And the result is an infant that the female protagonist must raise, which is beneficial for the near-passing remaining member and the nulliparous female protagonist.
