After being inevitably transposed to the ethereal realm, the protagonist arrogantly declines any procedure of retrieval, which is conveyed to him by his wife, until realizing the dismal fate he shall shortly face. When the elderly oriental scientist succeeds in attaining the protagonist, it is ultimately unveiled that the scientist is actually much older than what is divulged on his ID card, considering he himself had undergone the effects of the technology.
