Relativity Theory
Biologist Teresa Janovitch is a civilian among military men, traveling on the Resource Survey Vehicle Cortez to Tau Ceti Prime in search of minerals for an Earth that has squandered its own. Initial signs indicate that the planet is both uninhabited and rich in mineral resources, which could mean a million-dollar payday for both the crew and the company that owns the Cortez. But on the first exploration, the crew is attacked by gigantic and apparently primitive aliens. After the command falls to Janovitch, she is overpowered by her crew: Sgt. Adam Sears, a veteran of pacification missions on Earth, who favors annihilation of the new race, and an ambiguous Corporal Charles Pendelton. Sears leads a patrol that hunts down and kills the aliens and in the process seizing a golden object that appears to be a religious totem. As he celebrates his slaughter, Janovitch examines his victims and makes a shocking discovery.
Unbeknownst to everyone, the seemingly auriferous object is legitimately a distress beacon for the aliens to contact their planet if ever in need of help. Janovitch, unlike the spatial crew, who have by this point brought about the decimation of extraterrestrial entities on a planet not occupied but rather recreationally used by a more advanced species, scrutinizes the corpses and realizes that the allegedly primitive alien assailants are in actuality young BSA-like members pertaining to a vastly superior alien race and were merely defending themselves against what they perceived to be belligerent invaders. The mother ship arrives, learns of the tragedy, probes the spatial crew's records, and proceeds to obliterate the spatial crew in its entirety. Then, the spacecraft charts out its path and journeys to Earth in order to commit the same genocide done to their "children."
