Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Voyager: The Delta Quadrant Sink: Cast & Characters: Scarlett Pomers as Naomi Wildman
---Note:
Although Scarlett Pomers is listed in this board's title, it should be noted that Naomi Wildman was first played by an unidentified infant in Deadlock, and by Brooke Ashley Stephens in Nemesis (voice only) and Mortal Coil.

I had no idea that Pomers had an eating disorder. I saw some promo yesterday, I think, about today's Access Hollywood about some actress talking about her bulimia, but I didn't get a clear glance at who it was. I just saw now that it's Scarlett, who talks about being in therapy for this. I've seen her once or twice when flipping channels coming across her on Reba, and now she's grown into quite a lovely young woman. I think it's awful that Hollywood causes such young people to risk their health with eating disorders, and I hope she comes through it well.

I forget if it was explained or not, or where, but does anyone know why Naomi was a baby in the last season or two and now she's about 9 or 10? How did she grow so fast? Maybe her race is distantly related to Klingons? I mean, look how fast it took Alexander to grow up.

I dunno, just wondering.

By ScottN on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 10:37 am:

She's half K'tarian. (BTW, aren't those the baddies in TNG "The Game"?) That has been given as the reason (on the air, I believe) that she grew up so quickly.

[WARNING BORING REPETITION COMING UP] The little girl who played the baby Naomi in "Deadlock" is now about 3 1/2 and extremely cute. I see her regularly (her big sister is in my daughter's kindergarten class).

But I think my favorite recurring character is Naomi.I love the chemistry that Scarlett and
Jeri have, and just watching her I can tell that Scarlett is going to be the Jeri Ryan of the next
century.Ya Go Girl!!!:-)

I hated Naomi until she helped 7 take over the ship in 5.7. I like the idea of Naomi
becoming a rebellious teenager like Drew Barrymore. But isn't she is a bit old to be carried
around?? I would have died of embarrassment if anybody did that to me at her age.

By Anonymous on Tuesday, July 13, 1999 - 6:49 am:

Naomi is only 3 Johanna. She is half Ktarian which makes her look older but she is still only three.

By Johanna on Sunday, July 25, 1999 - 6:20 am:

She seems pretty competent for a 3
old to me!

By Richie Vest on Sunday, July 25, 1999 - 6:43 am:

Naomi maybe 3 but the actress who plays her is no three year old

By Anonymous on Sunday, July 25, 1999 - 10:55 pm:

As much as I try I find Naomi Wildman annoying. I think its trying to imagine her as a 3 year old! OK she has alien DNA. But she acts mentally and physically much older than she is surposed to be.

I thought it silly that Seven picked her up and ran during "Bliss" the kid could trot just as fast.

I think if she is ever made the Captains assistant (arragant little tike) the crew should prepare the life pods. Sorry to all Naomi fans.

Well, heck, Kes was only 2 or 3 when we met HER!

Obviously K'tarians mature physically and mentally faster than humans.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Anonymous on Tuesday, July 27, 1999 - 4:06 pm:

Actually Scott Kes was less than one years old in the pilot episode. She had her second birthday in the second season episode "Twisted". She was three years old in "Before and After" and I believe she was still three when she left in "The Gift".
Does anyone else wish that the writers brought back the maquis characters from the first season.
Like Gerron, Chell, Dalby even the deseased Seska would be nice.

By ScottN on Wednesday, July 28, 1999 - 10:12 am:

Ok. But my point remains about Naomi. She's half K'tarian. K'tarians mature faster physicallythan humans. Odds are they mature faster mentally too. I was using Kes as an example of a 3 year old who wasn't baby-ish.

I still think Naomi is complete brat.

Am I the only one who actually likes Naomi? I think the actress who plays her is very good and personally I'd like to see a few more scenes with her in.

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, September 23, 2000 - 4:28 am:

Why do we see Naomi more than we see her mother. We only saw Sam Wildman in "Fury" this year, and that was a return to the past. Scarlet Pomers, incidentally, is ten years old, the same as my son, Mike.

By Wannabe Trek Writer on Saturday, September 23, 2000 - 11:17 am:

Personally, I feel that Naomi isn't a brat enough. She's too well adjusted, IMHO.

When the Borg kids came aboard, she should have treated them as an only child first coming into contact with her cousins would... as a spoiled brat, jealous of their interactions with Seven and Neelix. Initially, the plan in Ashes to Ashes was for her not to like the dronelings. But I guess somewhere it was probably decided that that would make her character too unlikeable.

Forgive me for using the "Jar Jar Binks defense," but keep in mind there are kids who watch the show and absolutely love Naomi.

How come if Ktarians mature so rapidly, Naomi stopped growing? Shouldn't she be an adult, or a teenager?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Jwb52z on Thursday, December 14, 2000 - 12:44 pm:

Anonymous, there's no reason to think that they mature that fast CONSTANTLY, even if they do mature fast in relation to humans. After a period of time the aging so fast would have bad wear and tear on the body.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Rene on Thursday, December 14, 2000 - 1:03 pm:

So they conviniently age quickly until they reach a certain age and then age normally?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Anonymous on Thursday, December 14, 2000 - 1:19 pm:

How do you know that, JWB?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Jwb52z on Thursday, December 14, 2000 - 1:35 pm:

Rene, even humans go through fast stages of development, but not like that. In humans they are called puberty and growth spurts. Anonymous, I know that because unless their physiology is NOT AT ALL like human physiology, the body can only take so much stress before it gives out. Growing puts stress on the body.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Anonymous on Friday, December 15, 2000 - 8:01 am:

One example: Goldfish will grow continue to grow as long as the container they live in has sufficient air. They have no growth ceiling other than old age. That's why goldfish in ponds are so much bigger than goldfish in bowls. So I don't see that your theory "holds water," JWB.

By Spornan on Friday, December 15, 2000 - 9:34 am:

JWB seems to me to be as Pro-Voyager as Rene is Anti-Voyager.

There hasn't been any established reason for Naomi to stop aging as rapidly as she was mentioned to grow. Making up reasons why she would stop aging quickly doesn't really serve Nitpicking too much. It's just speculation.

I could speculate that the reason Voyager never goes Warp is because they are conserving energy, and only go at Warp during certain time periods, but there's really no basis in the show to say that. Sure, it COULD happen, but there's nothing that says it has.

Just like Naomi COULD have slowed down her aging when she reached a certain age, but there's been nothing to say she should have.

By Anonymous on Friday, December 15, 2000 - 10:43 am:

Exactly. This isn't the "Let's assume there's some perfectly sensible reason for it" Board.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Jwb52z on Friday, December 15, 2000 - 10:30 pm:

With Naomi's growing, we don't know for sure that things are constant with her physiology. We don't have enough info to say one way or the other in reality.

By Anonymous on Wednesday, July 18, 2001 - 3:15 pm:

I read in Star Trek Monthly that Naomi is actually six years old. Scarlett Pomers is ten. Probably older now, I read this a while ago.

Does anyone else think Vorik sounds like Julian Clary and Dale Winton rolled into one?

By Judibug (Judibug) on Friday, May 13, 2016 - 7:36 am:

I'm glad Scarlett beat her condition.

why is the baby girl name Scarlett but the color spelt Scarlet?
