I like Vorik! He's a cool requiring character. I don't know why

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Mike Konczewski on Wednesday, February 24, 1999 - 2:47 pm:

I think you mean "recurring", Omer. Requiring means "needing or demanding."

Which one is Vorik? I don't remember him.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Richie Vest on Wednesday, February 24, 1999 - 4:45 pm:

Mike, Vorik is the Vulcan enginner who wanted to have par farr with B'Elanna.

Also I am glad some one finally post here.

I really wonder about Annorax (the Krenim guy changing around time to make the Krenim all superior (again). In the last shot of the 2nd episode you see him happily at home, with his wife.. wouldn't it be kinda easy to just say: "hmm. I wanna go home", and then destroy the time ship himself?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Mike Konczewski on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 2:17 pm:

Marten--I think Anorrax's hated of his enemies made him overlook that solution. Also, the variable involved in calculating changes in the time continuum are supposed to be very complicated; it's possible it got swamped in the math.

As far as I can tell, Annorrax must have built another time ship that catapulted him back to 1970's Earth, where he got married and had a two kids (see "That 70's Show" for the punchline to this joke).

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By marten on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 5:36 pm:

*grin* well I dont think I can I dont have that stuff around ;) but thanks for the tip. Anyway - perhaps he overlooked it.. But perhaps then the reason he started time-manipulation would still be there..

Something like that the are at war with Krenim and Krenim are losing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Mike Konczewski on Monday, March 01, 1999 - 9:40 am:

I thought the reason Annorax was so single minded in his quest was that his wife had been killed or removed from time. Since we see her alive again at the end of the episode, he doesn't have that motive any more.

The tension between his race and the other planet also seems to be reduced; the alien that stopped Voyager is much more relaxed than he was at the beginning of part I.

Oh, BTW, the actor that played Mr. A was also the Federation President in ST VI: The Undiscovered Country

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Peter Howie on Thursday, March 04, 1999 - 3:41 pm:

I think Lt. Ayala is the best and I want to know more about Tarik Ergin the actor who plays him.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Anonymous on Thursday, March 04, 1999 - 4:12 pm:

Lt. Ayala isn't he just an etxra?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Aaron on Friday, March 05, 1999 - 9:25 am:

Not technically....
in "The Gift", he gets to say a line!
When Seven starts throwing herself against the brig's forcefield, he gets to say "Lieutenant Ayala to The Bridge....." "...You'd better comedown here, Captain."!

He is also mentioned in "Twisted", where Kes mentions that his quarters are not on Deck 4, but on Deck 8.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Nathan K. on Tuesday, March 09, 1999 - 10:56 pm:

I agree! Lt. Ayala is the best!

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By marten on Wednesday, March 10, 1999 - 8:28 am:

Well if she said that she isnt the best security officer. "You better come down here captain?" What kinda report is that?? Something concise and security-like would be:

"Lt Ayala to the bridge. The prisoner is attempting to break through the forcefield. Request assistance!" - or something.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By norman on Wednesday, March 10, 1999 - 10:37 am:

Ah, but "You better come down here," seems to be general Starfleet Protocol if you have seen all four series. No one ever tells the captain what they see but they have to come and see this. You would've known this by now. :P

(i.e. common plot device)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By marten on Wednesday, March 10, 1999 - 6:57 pm:

Yeah I know ;) Same as that any alien can punch 4 buttons on any starship and make it do its bidding. Shoot Torpedoes, Eject warp core, deal cards.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Chris Booton on Thursday, March 11, 1999 - 6:26 am:

Well thats because all ships have in invader friendly operating system.

And Yes the "Don't give picard the straight answer" syndrom is quite popular and can be very amusing.

Now if you'll exucse me I just got called to engineering, theres a something down there I've been told I have to see.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By cableface on Tuesday, April 06, 1999 - 4:22 pm:

I thought Suder was a cool character. For once in Trek, there was this dark disturbing guy.I think his best moment was when Tuvok asked him why he killed the guy in "Meld" and he eventually replies "I didn't like the way he looked at me"
Pity they killed him off.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By dwmarch on Tuesday, April 06, 1999 - 4:42 pm:

I liked Suder too. I was half-expecting Playmates to put out a Commando-Action Suder Figure complete with enormous phaser rifle and photon grenade bandolier after seeing Basics pt II. I wouldn't be surprised if such a figure actually came out... there's a figure for the Vorgons and they were only in one episode!

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Matthew Patterson on Tuesday, April 06, 1999 - 8:27 pm:

Ooh! I have the Vorgon figure! Don't ask me why though.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By ScottN on Tuesday, April 06, 1999 - 9:44 pm:

Which episode had the Vorgons? (Don't they have a construction corps and write bad poetry -- just kidding)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By AMH97 on Wednesday, April 07, 1999 - 1:15 am:

Captain's Holiday?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By dwmarch on Wednesday, April 07, 1999 - 11:09 am:

Yep. They were the ATOW in Captain's Holiday. Maybe they got an action figure just because they had bright, colorful outfits?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By dwmarch on Wednesday, April 07, 1999 - 11:11 am:

Ooops. I meant the were the AOTW... Aliens Of The Week.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Kevin S on Tuesday, May 11, 1999 - 6:55 pm:

Voyager kills off its best recurring characters: Suder and Seska to name the best two.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Kazan on Friday, May 14, 1999 - 12:38 am:

I was so disappointed with the episode Counterpoint. (incoming gripe ....)

Ensign Vorik didn't even get a line? I also thought the reason they went to such lenghts to catch telepaths was lame.

Charming lot the senior officers, get chucked into a transporter holding whatsit, your molucles mixing with everyone elses for long period of time and when they deem it safe to bring you back - no one asks you if your okay. I did notice that Tuvok did look at him and they seem to have communicated non verbally that all their bits had returned and in the right places. Still after 5 years Tuvok should loosen up and talk to him afterall they are the only two Vulcans on board Voyager. (Bet Neelix Vulcan Get-togethers in the mess are a real hit).

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By ScottN on Wednesday, June 09, 1999 - 4:23 pm:

I was gonna post this under DS9, but Q-less doesn't have an add button (yet)... and I guess it's kind of relevant to VOY...

Looks like Sisko did the right thing by punching Q. He got so upset, he decided to go muck around in the Delta Quadrant! Of course, Kate won't give him the thrashing he deserves...

By Scott McClenny on Thursday, July 01, 1999 - 10:19 am:

Did anyone else see the Hercules episode THE ACADEMY last week? Anyway in it Jason discovers that his old flame Lilith(from YOUNG HERCULES)has a surprise for him.It seems that when he wasn't looking they had a daugther. Now here's the connection to
VOYAGER,Lilith named their daugther SESKA!!!! Ya know knowing what we know now about girls named Seska if I were Jason I'd be very, very careful!!!:-) But my point is every time Seska's name was mentioned me thought of a certain dead Cardassian spy.Hmmm...do ya think TPTB on Herc were watching VOYAGER?

Also I'd love to see Marla Gilmore from the EQUINOX replace Vorik, she'd make a great complement to Seven and the rest of the crew, besides Vorik gets on the nerves a bit.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By johanna on Sunday, July 04, 1999 - 11:02 am:

Vorik should get more air-time. I noticed that he was in an episode of Star Trek TNG named Lower Decks. Also, Suder was pretty cool, but Ceska was just boring and not very complex. I prefer it when a good character goes bad like when Tuvok stole the technology.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By ScottN on Sunday, July 04, 1999 - 3:13 pm:

THAT WAS TAURIK! ARGH!!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By M. Jenkins on Monday, July 05, 1999 - 1:19 am:

Breathe, Scott, breathe...inhale...exhale...in through the nose...out through the mouth...*LOL* It ends with Rik...that's the only thing I can think of.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Matthew Patterson (Mpatterson) on Monday, July 05, 1999 - 12:26 pm:

The first syllables sound very similar, and the second syllables are identical. You really can't blame people for thinking that they're the same if they can't remember the actors too clearly.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By M. Jenkins on Tuesday, July 06, 1999 - 7:48 pm:

Actually, TPTB should have moved Taurik (Look, Scott, I got it right! :-) from TNG to Voyager. IMHO.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By ScottN on Tuesday, July 06, 1999 - 11:23 pm:

Doesn't matter... They'd have messed him up the way they messed up the Borg and the Q.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By ScottN on Tuesday, July 06, 1999 - 11:24 pm:

Though, M. Jenkins (can I call you M?), I agree. Taurik, though he was a one-show wonder, had being Vulcan down cold, unlike some of the Vulcans we've seen (Capt. Solok comes to mind). I liked Taurik.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Johnny Veitch on Sunday, July 11, 1999 - 2:23 pm:

In the original NextGen Guide, Phil thought up a sidebar called "The Creator is Always Right". It had 5 multiple-choice questions, the answers to which would solve nits. Here`s an inter-series one which seems appropriate which I have come up with.

How did Taurik cope with his guilt after contributing to the Sito incident? (see "Lower Decks")

a) He went to the plastic surgeons and got an ear job to look like a terran, and therefore was allowed to be emotional.

b) He chose a new identity, as another Vulcan with a very similar name, jumped ship to the USS Voyager, and pretended to forget his original identity.

c) He used his skill in Engineering to install a cloaking devie on a shuttlecraft and launch it while the doors opened to launched another one, and joined the Romulans.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Scott McClenny on Sunday, July 11, 1999 - 5:46 pm:

Our we unto another Locarno/Paris thingy with Taurick/Vorik? I still think that Marla Gilmore makes for a more interesting recurring character, with her claustrophobia she could be the Barclay of Voyager. Speaking of which could you iagine what would happen if Barclay and Gilmore married?Think of all the neuroses their kids could have!!:-)

BTW:Seska WAS more interesting than Vorik who is as boring to watch as ice melting. At least Seska had an agenda that made her interesting.

But I think my favorite recurring character is Naomi.I love the chemistry that Scarlett and
Jeri have, and just watching her I can tell that Scarlett is going to be the Jeri Ryan of the next
century.Ya Go Girl!!!:-)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By M. Jenkins on Sunday, July 11, 1999 - 8:04 pm:

Scott: M is fine...and I really wish Taurik had been transferred from the Enterprise to Voyager. That way, we wouldn't be confusing Taurik and Vorik.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Scott McClenny on Thursday, December 23, 1999 - 4:12 pm:

Too bad Barclay ended up with his boss' sister-in-law,as I think it would have been
interesting to see what would have happened if he and Marla ever got together. I have to admit of all the characters from the EQUINOX I liked Marla the best..wonder if they'll use her or the rest of the EQUINOX crewmembers in future episodes.

I wish we had seen the Equinox five during this past season. They introduce intriguing characters, and then forget about them. Maybe we will see them in season seven.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Josh G. on Monday, December 11, 2000 - 6:38 pm:

So... what happened to Naomi's mother? Is she dead? I can't recall the last time she was on the show.

By Jwb52z on Thursday, December 14, 2000 - 12:44 pm:

Anonymous, there's no reason to think that they mature that fast CONSTANTLY, even if they do mature fast in relation to humans. After a period of time the aging so fast would have bad wear and tear on the body.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Rene on Saturday, December 16, 2000 - 11:32 am:

And by the way, another major problem with that episode....and this you cannot possibly deny, Jwb.

They reason, "Oh...we can't use Warp 10 to get home....it turns people into salamanders."....Except....the Doctor cured Paris and Janeway...so why not use it to get home and then just cure the crew?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Anonymous on Saturday, December 16, 2000 - 11:39 am:

I am really starting to think Jwb is really Braga.

Then he would be a very lucky man. You know why...

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Jwb52z on Saturday, December 16, 2000 - 11:47 am:

Anonymous, you should know that I'm not really into those super thin women. I want one I can hold on to for a while that won't slip through my hands.

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Saturday, December 16, 2000 - 3:39 pm:

Though it's not canon, in the character biographies in the computer program Star Trek: Starship Creator, Vorik is listed as having a twin brother named Taurik, and Taurik is listed as having a twin brother named Vorik. Hmmmm.... makes sense to me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Rene on Saturday, December 16, 2000 - 7:31 pm:

So are Locarno and Paris twins despite the fact they don't have the same last names?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Saturday, December 16, 2000 - 9:48 pm:

I didn't check. That's a good question, although I'm pretty sure you don't have the option of playing Locarno. Who'd want to draft him, anyway?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Mirror Tuvok on Thursday, January 11, 2001 - 5:50 am:

Seska and Cullah back in next week's episode. Somehow I knew that we would not end this series without seeing Seska and Cullah one more time.

I liked Hogan too. He was crunchy and yummy.

Holodeck, begin $tupid idea program.

Paris in an effort to avoid being the Admirals kid (as opposed to the coach's kid who always bats clean-up, hmmph!) decided to call himself "Locarno." By the time he was kicked out, however, it was an open secret. (Hey, it was a small academy.)

Holodeck, end program.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By William Still Laughing at that first typo Berry on Monday, March 04, 2002 - 11:18 am:

I agree with Omer. Vorik was the best needy character.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Klingon Warrior on Monday, April 15, 2002 - 5:01 am:

Interesting bit of trivia: the guy who played Lon Suder also played an insane Billy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. But wait!-the plot thickens. Evil Nurse Rachett, in the above film, is played by the same actress who plays the evil Kai Winn in DS9.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Harry on Friday, July 25, 2003 - 8:06 am:

Was the guy who played Suder in Lord of the Rings? I'm sure I recognised him under Wormtail.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By NSetzer (Nsetzer) on Friday, July 25, 2003 - 8:28 am:

Yes, Brad Dourif played Ensign Suder and Wormtail

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By ScottN on Friday, July 25, 2003 - 12:14 pm:

Wormtongue. Wormtail is from Harry Potter.

Vorik was played by Alexander Enberg. His mother is series co-creator Jeri Taylor.

By Andre Reichenbacher (Amr) on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 - 12:01 am:

Ship manifest time. VGR was mostly crewed by humans. Of course, Torres was half-Klingon, Neelix was Talaxian, Kes was Ocampan, and The Doctor was a hologram. Seven Of Nine was a former Borg but became human again. But there were also two Vulcans, Tuvok and Vorik, two Bolians, Chell and Golwatt, three Bajorans, Gerron, Tabor, and Tal Celes, and two Betazoids, Lon Suder, who died defending the ship after having murdered a crewmember, and Stadi, who was killed on the way to the DQ. Also, Naomi Wildman was half-Ktarian, and there was even a Cardassian pretending to be a Bajoran (Seska).

And later there was a Brunali (Icheb), a Norcadian (Mezoti), and two Wysanti (Rebi & Azan).

I think I mentioned all the other species besides human. I even consulted Memory Alpha for this. There you have it!
