Best & Worst Episodes

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Voyager: The Delta Quadrant Sink: Best & Worst Episodes
By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Monday, January 08, 2007 - 10:18 pm:

By Stone Cold Steven Of None on Saturday, November 16, 2002 - 9:13 am:

If I was stranded on a desert island (Or Downer's Grove - same thing) and I had my choice of only ten Voyager eps to see, this list would be my choice:
10) Caretaker. Where it all began.
9) Resolutions. Blue Lagoon for muppies - that's Middle-aged Urban Professionals to you.
8) Before And After. What might have been if TIIC had stuck with Kes.
7) Cold Fire. Kes gets tempted by the Dark Side!
6) Flashback. LOL moment: When Captain Janeway says she'd have loved to have ridden shotgun with the OS crew. Can you just _see_ her in one of those Old School Trek short skirts, getting moved on by the Master, James T Kirk himself:-)?
5) Distant Origin.
4) Living Witness.
3) Equinox.
2) The Year Of Hell. The Temporal Integrity Commission must have had a fit with this one.
And the Number One Voyager episode:
Scorpion. Borg butt gets kicked. The First Couple share a tender moment - and then a sad one. Faux Death Star. Season 3 ends with a bang. Seven Of Nine. Barbie Of Borg. 2 Of 38DD.
These are _my_ picks; your results may vary.

No "Timeless"?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Phillip Culley (Pculley) on Saturday, November 16, 2002 - 5:36 pm:

I'm not doing them in order, cause I can never place them, but my favourite 10 are (in chronological order)

1) Caretaker (Where it all began - perhaps the best first episode ever)
2) Deadlock (Always loved this one - then the Vidiians get onto the Bridge is a clasic moment)
3) Future's End (Paris and Tuvok get many wonderful moments)
4) Before and After (Messes with your head trying to work it out, but is well done)
5) Scorpion (Excellent. Just excellent)
6) Year of Hell (Although it suffers from the BRB, it takes the best possible root there!)
7) Message in a Bottle (the two EMH's are brilliant together!)
8) Bride of Chaotica! (another well done one - luckily they didn't try to make it serious!)
9) Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy (was on the first Voyager video I got, plus Robert Picardo as great as always)
10) Life Line (again, Picardo is at his peak playing the two Zimmermans)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Blue Berry on Sunday, November 17, 2002 - 3:04 am:

I don't have ten. There are a few memorable (for being good) episodes that stand out.

1) Scorpion (part #1 was better than part #2, but I like loose ends and deliberate ambiguity)

2) Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy (fortunately it was very comical)

3) Bride of Chaotica! (Where tongues get planted in cheeks where no tongue has gone before!)

4) Year of Hell (Yeah, big reset button and time travel, but well done)

5) Message in a bottle (if just for both EMH's shouting "Alpha" to the request for an attack pattern.)

6) So memorable, I forget the title. They encounter a race of short people who are enthralled by the Doc's singing.

Hope and Fear, Drone, Blink of an Eye, and Lineage stand out for me.

Blue Berry: Virtuoso

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Sparrow47 on Monday, November 18, 2002 - 10:38 pm:

The somewhat underrated "Counterpoint," anyone?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Justin ODonnell on Thursday, April 10, 2003 - 10:11 pm:

10. Jetrel
9. Resistance
8. Unity
7. Dark Frontier
6. The Killing Game (1&2)
5. Timeless
4. Author, Author
3. Living Witness
2. The Equinox (1&2)
....and the number one favourite episode is......
The Year of Hell (1&2)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By The Watcher on Friday, June 06, 2003 - 8:32 pm:

Some that I actually enjoyed. ()

Tuvix- Involves a situation where what is right or wrong is not always what should or should not be done. It brings up good philosopical debate on life.
Living Witness-Similar to the messages of "Let That be Your Last Battlefield" The best message episodes are the ones where the StarFleet crew are on the sides and not part of the problem.
Worst Case Scenario-Yes!! Tuvok was bested! Also, the Paris/Tuvok verbal exchange was well done.
Warlord- It showed that the 'quiet' or 'feeble' personality of Kes was the result of poor writing and not because of the actress. Kes is better when she can "live" a little.
Timeless- A good emotion wrenching episode. To see Harry realize he's killing his crewmates again and the mind job he must go through when he reads the log entry at the end.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By BJ Clinton on Friday, October 03, 2003 - 11:37 am:

I really liked that episode where 7 of 9 saved the day. Another great one was when Janeway promised her crew that she'd get them home. Finally, the one where the Doctor got mad at a patient. All classics!

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By ? on Friday, October 03, 2003 - 7:53 pm:

Timeless, endgame,Tinkor Tinkor , Message in a Bottle,Q and the Gray, Death Wish, Author Author,Relativity,Blink of an Eye,Fury (why was Kes mad anyways?) Before and After...

WORST EPISODES......(And why)

Parallax.....(I hate time shift episodes)
Time and Again.....(See above)
Phage.....(Spock's Brain revisited)
Emanations.....(Life after death question never really resolved)
Heroes and Demons.....(Holodeck hiccup episode)
Cathexis.....(Too boring & predictable)

By the 47s tm on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 7:36 am:

John- Shattered and Timeless were 2 of the best time shows, also Relativity (my humble opinion)

Living Witness not too bad but 700 years in the future?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By ScottN on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 8:52 am:

the 47s: Those weren't season 1.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By ScottN on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 8:53 am:

Of course, those are your favorites. John is doing his in season order. No offense intended 47s.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the 47s tm on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 1:22 pm:

no problemo Scottn, I thought they said the emh can t be backed up....on Earth the statue of limitations for crimes is 7 years? Not 700? sigh

ps the Phage was about Neelix s lungs or lack there of ..or am I missing something

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By ScottN on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 1:39 pm:

There is no statute of limitations on murder.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By John A. Lang on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 2:05 pm:

The 47s TM: Correct. "Phage" was about Neelix's lungs

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Dan Gunther on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 5:31 pm:

I may be in the minority here, but I enjoyed "Phage," probably for a couple of reasons.

1. I hadn't seen it during the first run, and have just now seen it on dvd... if I haven't seen it, it's new to me!

2. Janeway's speech at the end: "ANY agression against this crew will be met by the DEADLIEST FORCE." Something like that. VERY well delivered, Kate Mulgrew!

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By John A. Lang on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 8:16 pm:

Yeah...but it was a cheap threat because she failed to execute the threat in "Faces"

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Dan Gunther on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 10:09 am:

Oh, I agree, but that has no bearing on the quality of "Phage." I absolutely detest "Faces."

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By John A. Lang on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 10:29 am:

Funny. I feel the opposite. I liked "Faces" but detest "Phage"

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Dan Gunther on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 8:34 pm:

I could see someone holding that opinion... I found Neelix rather annoying in "Phage," albeit rather realistic... and I liked Torres in "Faces." I guess for me its more parts of episodes I like than the whole thing. "Absolutely detest" was a little stronger language than I should have used... definitely like "Phage" more though.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Doug on Thursday, April 22, 2004 - 5:11 pm:

Worst episode

That would be "The 37's" The acting was soo corny,
It was cool seeing Voyager Land, however

Other than that, the episode was TERRIBLE.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Tom Vane on Friday, April 23, 2004 - 8:05 pm:

I liked Relativity even though all the time jumping didn't make a whole lot of sense. I guess that's a case where you have to "repeat to yourself, it's just a show, I really should relax."

Other than that, I liked the Hirogen episodes, Hope and Fear, Nightengale, Equinox, and pretty much all of the fifth season.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By John A. Lang on Saturday, May 22, 2004 - 9:23 pm:

NOT SO GOOD EPISODES (AND WHY)

Projections (Holodoc hiccup simular to Holodeck hiccup episodes)

Non Sequitor (Alt-reality episode--YUCK!)

Parturition (just plain dull episode)

Manuvers (Too predictable)

Lifesigns (Vidiaan woman too dumb to figure out that the holo-image of herself is not really her)

Deadlock (too confusing--alt reality episode)

Tuvik (yucky Transporter malfunction ep.--rehash of VERY old & tired material)

Basics Pt. 1 (When is Janeway going to learn NOT to trust ANYTHING the Kazon say or do?)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Rebel on Friday, June 04, 2004 - 11:48 am:

(see 2/3 posts up)

Gasp...did AnonyMatt actually make a comment relevant to the discussion, and one not involving Rabbi Meir Kahane?!!

And in other news, John A. Lang announces that he's decided to let Riker have Troi after all.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Deanna Troi on Friday, June 04, 2004 - 12:24 pm:

He did not, I'm in John's lap right now!

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Cindy on Monday, July 12, 2004 - 11:26 am:

I like the two-parter (with Sarah Silverman and Ed Begley) where Voyager goes back in time to 1990's Earth. I also love the two-parter that introduced Seven of Nine. Wonderful charcters and action in both. Basics I and II were fun two. Actually, there are just so many great episodes. Effects-wise, I love the one where Voyager is shown crashing onto a snow covered planet. "Thirty days" featured great underwater effects. Who knew the Vogager shuttles could double as subs!

By John A. Lang (Johnalang) on Thursday, July 04, 2013 - 8:46 am:

Offhand, I think there were WAY too many time-travel episodes

By Andre Reichenbacher (Amr) on Thursday, July 04, 2013 - 1:55 pm:

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with you about that, John. And I HATE Future's End so much, I refuse to watch it ever again.

Timeless was OK, though. At least the altered timeline was corrected. And you're right about Fury and Shattered. Give me The City On The Edge Of Forever or the Time's Arrow two-parter any day!
