Does it ever irk anyone but me when certain words like "religious" are applied to objects and not people?

By MarkN on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 - 10:16 pm:

It wasn't meant to be irksome, or even offensive, J. I was just being considerate towards anyone who likes religious or religion-based films when I created this board, as well as some of the others that I have, and will later on. That's all. Surely you can see that.

By Benn on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 - 10:53 pm:

I apply it to people, Jwb. I would refer to you as "religious".

By ScottN on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 - 11:03 pm:

Which version of The Ten Commandments are you using? The 1923 edition or the 1956 edition? Of course, they're both by deMille.

By ScottN on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 - 11:04 pm:

Oh, and since NitCentral started out with Trek, you just have to put "King of Kings" (Jeffrey Hunter).

Also, there was "The Silver Chalice" (Paul Newman).

By MarkN on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 - 11:20 pm:

Thanks, Scott. I've now addressed that point there. And, as you can see, also added those two films now.

By Jwb52z on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 - 1:50 pm:

I was NOT meaning to say that I hated it, but it sometimes bothers me to see it used as an adjective to non humans.

By Mikey on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 - 4:22 pm:

Well, that is simply one application of the word. The most common definition is of or pertaining to religion. Examples: Religious instruction, religious schooling, religious artifact, religious doctrine. The second most common definition is the one you're referring to: pious.

Is there a board for "Life of Brian" or that movie with Dudley Moore as Moses's forgotten brother Herschel?

By ScottN on Thursday, December 13, 2001 - 2:12 pm:

"Wholly Moses"

(Good Lord, it's frightening that I knew that off the top of my head)

By William just kidding Kira Berry on Thursday, December 13, 2001 - 7:01 pm:

Actually I thought Wholly Moses was a serious introduction to Judaism like Fiddler on the Roof. :)

How about Stigmata?

I liked it. I liked how they mentioned Padre Pio, and showed that photo of him as a young man. My parents visited the church in Pennsylvania that was built in tribute to him.

And that Patricia Arquette is da bomb!
