One of my favorite Church Fathers is St.Augustine.
You gotta love someone who admits that he once
prayed:"Give me chastity and continency-but
not yet!"
Wow, my whole religion can be based on a Miscellaneous figure.
So no one is accidentally insulted, TomM, I suggest putting your e-mail address (I*N a S*P*A*M*B*O*T P*R*O*T*E*C+T#E=d F&A$S^I&O%N) so you can get the occaisional "What about 'the one we call Icc=ky munnie Plop'?" message.
Huh?? I'm lost. What do you mean by a "the one we call Icc=ky munnie Plop"?
I will, however, add my contact e-mail address to the announcement on the RM front page.
TomM,
I forgot about wacky examples confusing people. (You are not the first; you won't be the last.)
This is an example of an e-mail you might get:
What about Lao Tzu? There are millions of us Taoists? Are you bigoted against anything that is not based in your narrow view of religion, Christian boy? [further invective]"
I think making it clear any omissions are based on ignorance of whomever made these boards at the time they made them might save you some grief. (There might be a board for Lao Tzu. The idea is a Religious figure you did not think of we can call "anyother", x, or Icc=ky munnnie Plop. Understand now?)
Is Confucius considered a religious figure or just a philosopher? The question being is
Confucianism considered a religion or a philosophy or a combination?
Should we include the little known more esoteric
or just stick to names that everyone would be
familiar with?

If, as Blue Berry suggests Lao Tse, traditional founder of Taoism, belongs here, then Zhongni Qiu, known as K’oeng Foe-tse or Confucius would also. Since there is no "Philosophical Musings" board, I'm not particularly fussy about keeping a distinction between philosophy and religion.
Should we include the little known more esoteric or just stick to names that everyone would be familiar with?
That would depend on how much you have to say about them. I'm flexible. That's why there's both a "New Conversation" button on the main "Religious Figures" page and a Miscellaneous Figures topic.
The frere who founded the Taize community was stabbed to death a few days ago from an (apparently crazy) Romanian woman.
A great loss for many Christians, it overshadowed the World Youth Day. Since the Frere was already quite old, it's especially sad that somebody who always fought for peaceful coexistence and violence-lessness (is that the right word?), was killed instead of dying peacefully.
However, many young people in Taize have said that now more than ever they want to continue his work, and his successor for leadership was chosen several years ago.
Most workers for peace tend to die violently, sadly enough.
Beatles guru, Mararishi Mahesh Yogi (immortalized in the song, "Sexy Sadie") has died in his sleep at the age of 91 on Tuesday, February 5, 2008. The Mararishi also brought the concepts of Transcendental Medition to the West. For more details about the Mararishi, go here.
Um, the Mararishi played the guy chasing Dr. Kimble on The Fugitive? Geez, I had no idea. It's funny when two people you know of turn out to be the same person.
Oops. I guess I pasted the wrong link. Can you fix that, Luigi? Here's the correct link.
Tom is the RM mod, not me. I don't remember who the Sink mod is, but you did that up there too.
OK the link is fixed
Thanks, Tom!
Is anyone else here a Protestant Christian, what do you think about this article about the Virgin Mary
https://www.catholicamericanthinker.com/Mediatrix-of-All-Graces.html
Are you? What do YOU think?
Winters, I told you tat most ere are not Christians of any kind, and that there must be Christian sites and/or blogs that would be better suited for you.
Yet you keep coming back here. Why?
*that
**here
*** don’t presume there are no Christians here
**** Why are you asking him a question when you know he won’t answer?
Can't help reading Tim in Eliza Doolittle's voice.
I am actually Catholic but I don't talk about my religion here.
Rodney, I didn't say that there were no Christians here. I said that most of the currently active posters are not Christian. Most seem to be either atheists (Emily) or non-Christian (me). However, there are some, as Matthew as just informed us.
Why Winters continues to hang around here baffles me. I mean you won't find me at any Christian sites.
I imagine that, when this place was going at full steam, back around the turn of the century, there were lots of Christians here (including Phil himself).
But that was back then, this is now.
