Polygamy, HBO and the Mormon Church

HBO is runing a series titled Big Love, concerning a Mormon polygamist, played by Titanic's Bill Paxton, and his three wives. The Mormon Church is in an uproar, and they're condemning the series, as it allegedly does not reflect their current views on the subject. The Mormon Church banned polygamy in 1890 (as a prerequisite for Utah to gain admission to the United States.) More here. (By the way, HBO is stacking the deck for this series, as it will premiere on HBO March 12, right after The Sopranos.)

I'm not making a judgement on polygamy, but on a personal note, I've had one wife, and that was one too many. Three, I can't begin to fathom that one.

Like I've said any man crazy enough to try and keep more than one woman at a time happy deserves what he gets. Same goes for a woman with more than one man.

Warren Jeffs has been apprehended by the FBI.

Jeffs, leader of the breakaway Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints -- the polygamous cult that that marries 12 year old girls to lecherous old men and throws the 13-year old "competion" out on the streets (the "Lost Boys") to become hustlers and junkies -- was caught by a simple slip-up. He was stopped in Las Vegas on a minor traffic violation, and presented ID that was obviously phony.
