Everyone has commented on how Mulder's apartment number is 42 - the answer to the life, universe and everything in Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy books.
And, as we know from Star Trek, there's a bit of a game of putting the number 47 in everywhere. Now it's either this episode or the next one where we Scully's apartment number is 5.
Guess what? 42 + 5 = 47. It's a leap, sure. Make of it what you will.

Thinking more about this episode... why, when Mulder is chasing that Japanese guy with the briefcase, doesn't he shoot him in the leg when he refuses to stop?
Instead, Mulder runs right up close to him and allows his gun to be kicked out of his hand. Lucky he's got another one in his sock.
This guy ran away from a murder crime scene with possible evidence - I would think Mulder would have been in his rights to stop him in this manner - after all, he could be the murderer. And it's not like a wound to the leg would be fatal.

amm... I'm not a doctor, but can't a hit in the leg be leather in some circumstances? Like shuttering bones and stuff? also, he could have missed - a riquoshette(sp?) bullet could make some serious damage

By Chris Thomas on Saturday, April 03, 1999 - 8:04 pm:

Well, if this man is a possible murderer - and could possibly do it again - I would imagine a FBI agent firing at him in the leg could be warranted in this case. Besides, FBI agents would have had training on how not to make a shot to the leg lethal.

anyone here with enough knowledge about Law&Order to determine if that's leagal?

Omer, legal or not, a shot in the leg can indeed be fatal. On the inside of each thigh is the femoral artery. If these are damaged a person can bleed to death in a very short time. On a pratical note, shooting a running person in the leg is very difficult. Unless the person is running straight towards or away from the shooter, they have to try and hit a target that stops and changes direction with every step.

Chris: Besides, FBI agents would have had training on how not to make a shot to the leg lethal.

Believe it or not, nonlethal shooting is not a technique routinely taught to law enforcement personnel. Why? Because it's too chancy. As Biff pointed out, you could easily kill a person with a "nonlethal" shot to the leg. On the other end of the scale, you could *think* you've incapacitated someone, go on to handle something else, and end up with a bullet in the head because the person you shot wasn't as affected as you thought. In the heat of the moment, it's too much of a risk to try and just shoot someone's gun out of their hand or hit them in the kneecap. As a result, law enforcement personnel are taught to avoid shooting whereever possible, but if it comes down to it, they're trained to shoot to kill.

Have these boards obtained a moderator yet because I could swear I've posted here before, and other eps in seasons 3-6. Is it possible the SPAM above somehow deleted my post?

Jesse is exatly right about law-enforcement people non-lethal shots, and it's the same situation for warning shots as well; neither are taught anymore except to SWAT/HRT.

Ric: note mulders gun in Nisei/731 something is wrong
I'm not sure what you mean by that but his gun has changed yet again to an S&W, which makes this the third change in the show so far. It' too bad really, because the Sig is a far superior weapon to the S&W, and I don't believe the FBI made such a switch either.

Twice again in this ep two mysterious tactical teams have an odd variety of weaponry, though the one on the boat was slightly better uniformed.

This is where I'm sure I've posted here before because I remember commenting on how improper the handling of a murder suspect was just because he was a diplomat. Although the State Dept. and Japanese embassy would certainly have to be notified the FBI should have no reason to be afraid of them "breathing down their neck". DoS has no more authority than any of the other agencies of government, but of couse when it happens on the X-Files there's always the Consortium to think about.

I suspect they were lost in one of the Great Collapsing Nitcentral Disasters of the past.

By AWhite (Inblackestnight) on Friday, July 20, 2012 - 3:38 pm:

That's certainly a possibility but I think I've only made these posts in the last year or two. Has there been a disaster here in that timeframe? I know some info was lost when the old boards were moved into this new(er) site, in part due to spammers yet again, but that has to be several years ago now, right?
