There is an interesting theory floating around that the Alien Bounty Hunter in this episode is a different character than the one in "Herrenvolk" and "Talitha Cumi". Some believe that the bounty hunter here is the Rebel Colonist Leader, and later returns (with sewed-up face) in "The Red and the Black".
I think it's probably a diffrent guy then in Herrenvolk - probably a rebel - that's why he had to crush.
By the way, doesn't this episode has a great teaser? I simply adore it!
This episode also has a great cliffhanger.
Here's a nit I just recently noticed, and upon a late-nite viewing of the tape, no less:
Initially Mulder identifies the murdered doctors as "Dr. Landon Prince of Scranton, PA, Dr. Dale Gaylord of NYC and Dr. Harvey Buchanan of Teaneck NJ." Later he traces the pattern on a map and points to Trenton, Scranton and NYC.
Tell me something, am I the only one who finds something downright 'odd' looking about the Alien Bounty Hunter. He looks as if he has a load of cotton wool in his mouth.
An exciting ep that was packed full of good scenes and info; much like Erlenmeyer Flask IMO.
The first time we see the bounty hunter, um... collecting his bounty, he starts a fire to cover up the death of the doc. However, all he does is tear the cover off of a fuse panel, which has circuit breakers to prevent stuff like this, but taking off the cover would be no more dangerous than opening the door. Speaking of the bounty hunter, is it ever explained what his motivation is? I ask because BH as we know them get paid, and I don't see that being the case here, so why does he do it? If he's simply a soldier created for this very thing then that's not exactly hunting for bounties.
Although SA Weiss of the ficticious Syracuse FBI office probably would've been murdered he actually wasn't, and I think it's a bit odd that the FBI would assume that simply because he was stripped and put in his trunk. The guy had burns and scratches on his face, and for a while no cause of death could be found until the "retrovirus" was discovered. With the initial evidence I would say he was exposed to a toxic substance and somebody hid the body so they could clean it up. Murder would definitely be considered but not before a cause of death was determined.
One would think that since Scully has already had a pair of shoes destroyed by the green goo that she would watch where she's walking, especially in an open corridor where she should be able to see it clear as day.
Douglas: am I the only one who finds something downright 'odd' looking about the Alien Bounty Hunter.
I do agree he looks odd, for a human but he's simply a long-time body-builder and frequently does parts like this.
Agent Weiss doesn't flash an FBI ID (like Mulder and Scully's) but a CIA one that looks identical to the one Agent Chapel uses.
