Re the synopsis: Wasn't there dialogue to establish that autopsies gave no indication of their being anything other than human?
How did those conveniently-positioned leaves wind up covering the female's corpse? Given the attitudes of the police that shot her, I can't imagine any of them deciding to 'preserve her modesty'.
The leaves WERE rather convenient weren't they, but if you listen to an early bit of dialogue as Mulder comes running up, there's a comment about her almost trying to bury herself crudely, to cover up traces of herself.
We've got another Stargate/X-Files actor crossover in this one. The father whose car gets a flat tire in the opening of this episode is Bill Dow, would go on to play the recurring character of Dr. Bill Lee on Stargate SG1 and Atlantis. He would also return to the X-Files as recurring character Dr. Charles (Chuck) Burks.
And another in the same episode! The woman who plays Scully's friend Ellen is Tamsin Kelsey, who would go on to play Gairwyn in the SG1 episodes Thor's Hammer and Thor's Chariot.
You can tell these shows were pulling from the same pool of good character actors in Canada.
An interesting thing that I'm not sure has been pointed out before. Bill Dow actually bookends this episode. He plays the father from the 40s(?) at the beginning who gets dragged off and eaten AND the father in modern times walking through the woods with his son at the end. A neat touch!
Why did the couple walk around naked? This is New Jersey. It gets cold in the winter. Wouldnt' they have fashioned clothes for themselves?
Or at least stolen them from the people they've been eating.... Good point.
