Both Mulder and colton get the wrong conclusions. A poligraf test is only 50 something precent accurate. Therefore, Tooms should not be let free without further evidence. Mulder, however, bases his suspicion over the two questions he had. Colton is right about them, though - unexpected 'stupid' question has a greater chance of causing a reaction
In response to "Why Tooms couldn't stretch out of the handcuffs", it is rather obvious that stretching is hard work, and perhaps painful if done too much. The Werner killing is probably the best example of this. If Tooms even tried to stretch out, Mulder could blow his brains out!
In the opening teaser, Tooms is able to open the ventilation grill cover by unscrewing just one of four screws. And how does he get the screw back in again from the other side? Do his hands possess magnetic qualities as well as the ability to stretch?
Why do Tooms eyes sometimes glow yellow (when he is hunting) but when he is held by the FBI, they look all normal? Can he change his eye color to look scarier? Or is his stretching related to other body changes, which as a side-effect make his eyes glow? Does it help him to see in the dark where he hunts, or is it only special effect?
Tooms moves really quick in scullys house' pipes: when he drips on her hand, he is above her. She runs out, grabs her gun, and returns, and now he is in the vent near the floor.
Similarly, Tooms' hole in the nest is large because it's easier for him. Stretching seems like hard work!
The first in a series of episode "Look Back" reviews brought on by nostalgia.
"Squeeze" is the perfect episode for people who haven't seen and don't care about "The X-Files." It's got a killer villain, some wonderful set pieces, a believable situation, and even the annoying Colton who is straight out of some TV sitcom somewhere. For X-Philes, it borders on old hat (especially in the opening scenes which feature Mulder and Scully trying to convince the authorities of Tooms), but it still delivers the goods. Fits in well almost anywhere--I'm sure it would have been used a Doggett/Reyes script if it hadn't already been done.
Other Refutations of Phil's Nits
"How did Tooms figure out where Scully lived?"
I suppose he could have stalked her somehow (squeezed into her trunk?). He could have found her name out and did some calculations. He finds out where Mulder lives just fine in "Tooms."
I guess Tooms had fifty ways to love his liver.
Get up?
Donal Logue (Tom Colton) later achieved modest renown by playing the dad on the FOX comedy "Grounded for Life." I had a hard time recognizing him as Tom Colton, though.
