Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: XFiles: The Kitchen Sink is out there...: Old posts
By Ccabe on Thursday, December 24, 1998 - 9:41 am:

Mulder is obviously in love with Scully. I just don't know about Scully sometimes.

By Anonymous on Thursday, December 24, 1998 - 7:12 pm:

whats Mulder favorite kind of bread?

Mouldy.

By Murray Leeder on Thursday, December 24, 1998 - 7:12 pm:

Good news and bad news- this comes from the news service at IMDB:

The producers of X-Files are planning to resolve much of the confusion about the series' plot, kill off certain key characters and generally tie up
loose ends this season, which is likely to be its last, the New York Post reported today, citing an unnamed source. The resolutions will begin
during the February sweeps with a two-part episode, the newspaper said, quoting its source as saying that X-Files will do what many believed
last summer's movie would do -- answer many of the questions that have arisen, but have never been answered, in the convoluted plot -- like what
happened to agent Mulder's sister and who does special agent Alex Krycek really work for?

By J. Goettsche on Friday, December 25, 1998 - 10:14 am:

Funny, all this time I thought Krycek worked for himself.

Let's see, if they kill certain key characters, here is "a modest proposal": (DISCLAIMER: This is based on my personal preferences and not in anything released by TPTB. I have no idea what is going to happen.)

Who gets to die.
1) Spender. In "Patient X"/"The Red and the Black", he seems less interested in his mom's welfare than in his own chances for promotion.
2) Fowley. (Two for the price of one.)
3) Kersh
4) Mulder's mom. In "Demons", she appears less interested in giving her son some peace of mind about his real father, and more interested in protecting her secrets.

Who gets to live
1) Scully's mom. I like her.
2) CSM. He falls into the category "love to hate him"
3) Skinner. Too cool. Plus, unlike Mulder, he did get kissed by the real Scully.
4) The Lone Gunmen. At least Frohike, that paranoid pervert with a heart of gold.
5) Krycek. He might be a terrible person, but at least he is easy on the eyes.
6) Bill Jr. He is a jerk, but Mom Scully has lost too many loved ones already.

By K.n.d. on Thursday, February 18, 1999 - 5:55 pm:

okay, i agree with J.'s picks, only I would keep all the LGM (Gotta love 'em!) and I,
too, thought of Krycek when I heard Terri Clark's song. (That is what you were
refering to, right?)
re Murray: I hope this is one of CC infamous media-feeds... it doesn't sound good. And
i thought it was a confirmed fact that it would run for 7 seasons.

By J. Goettsche on Sunday, February 21, 1999 - 10:36 am:

K.N.D., pardon my ignorance, but who is Terri Clark and what song do you refer to?

By Nyla--k.n.d.-- on Saturday, February 27, 1999 - 9:55 am:

You heathen, you don't listen to country-western! The song is called Easy On The
Eyes:

Oh, you're easy on the eyes
Hard on the heart
You look so good
But the way things look ain't the way they are

...and so on. Okay, so maybe it isn't so relevant, but I listen to all songs with an
X-Philean ear now and often burst out laughing in the car, which really irritates my
mother. (She hates the X-Files, and I don't like reading non-fanfic romances. We have
very little common ground.)

By Nyla on Sunday, January 17, 1999 - 10:26 am:

Okay, everyone, I need your input on this: I just got a book that every nitpicking
X-Phile should have: The Science Of The X-Files. This book does, obviously, a lot
of nitpicking. Will it bother anyone if I enter the nits on the relevent boards? Or
should I keep my mouth shut? Answer...and until you do, I'm going to post them
anyway. :-) Act now!

By Nyla on Sunday, January 17, 1999 - 5:22 pm:

I seem to be doing all the posts on here lately, but here goes: I have not been able
to watch DS9 for the past couple of years, and missed the
episode 'Trials and Tribble-ations'. However, randomly paging through my
ST:Encyclopedia, I noticed an
entry for Agents 'Dulmer' and 'Lucsly'. Something about the names seized my
attention, and sure enough, in the itaclized print, it mentioned that their names
were a nod to Fox's popular show, (doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo)...YOU GUESSED IT!
The X-Files!
If you can't figure it out, sit down with some paper and rearrange the letters in
the names.
Chaos rules, man!

By Matt Thomas on Monday, January 18, 1999 - 2:26 pm:

I just saw an article yesterday in the Denver Post concerning the ending of the "X-Files." Curoiusly, it refers to the series ending with "this seventh season." That would seem to imply that this is the seventh season (I don't think so) , or Mr. Carter intends to end the X-Files in the seventh season. I think that it is neither, but merely a typo. This two-part season ender, entitled "Two Fathers" and "One Son", will "all but strip [Cancerman] of mystery." Also, Carter said that the ender will reveal the truth about the conspiracy, and that "when the conspiracy is exploded, there will be a lot of characters who are free agents." Also, Carter said, "the sexual tension between M&S will remain ripe."

By Kellkan on Monday, January 18, 1999 - 9:07 pm:

Nyla, please post all. Not everyone has access to "The science of the X-files." I, for one, have an ulterior motive: I saw the book, and did not buy it.
And I miss my friend, who has all the nitpicker's guides. (I miss him AND the guides)
-right on?

By UnAnonymous on Tuesday, January 19, 1999 - 7:14 am:

Dulmer = Mulder

Lucsly = Scully

By Nyla on Tuesday, January 19, 1999 - 5:06 pm:

Okay, will do. And I saw a thing on Fox News (yeah right! What news? Oh, you
mean Clinton SMUT and irrevelant things about the local 'Walk Your Iguana'
program and such. Not real news.)
As I was saying.
I saw a thing on Fox were Carter said that he would probably end it after the
seventh season, also.

Free Internet! The US Congress is in violation of CDA II/COPA with the Starr Report!

By Charles Cabe (Ccabe) on Tuesday, January 19, 1999 - 7:44 pm:

BTW, forgive my ignorance, but what is CDA II/COPA?

By Freedom on Tuesday, January 19, 1999 - 11:25 pm:

CDA II = Communications Decency Act II
(the Supremes struct down the original CDA as unconstitutional).

COPA = Child Online Protection Act (the same as CDA II).

By Charles Cabe (Ccabe) on Wednesday, January 20, 1999 - 1:03 pm:

Thanks.

By Nyla on Wednesday, January 20, 1999 - 3:12 pm:

That's a good point. (I haven't read the Starr Report, but my dad says it's pretty
bad.)

By Mark Morgan on Wednesday, January 20, 1999 - 4:26 pm:

KellKan, one word: copyright. The author should be paid for his her/work, don't you think?

Perhaps, Nyla, you might post a couple of *really good ones* for us, though.

By Nyla on Thursday, January 21, 1999 - 7:54 am:

Okay. I put one on 'Pilot' that was really good, and the author has good mythology
theories

By Adam Chmelka on Thursday, January 21, 1999 - 9:37 pm:

Matt Thomas: I thought "Two Fathers" and "One Son" were airing during the February sweeps, not as the season enders.

By Skinner on Friday, January 22, 1999 - 1:11 pm:

Why is it that whenever I sit in my office look at my picture of Janet Reno my veins start throbbing, and they feel like they're gonna burst? What is it about this exact spot?!?

By Nyla on Friday, January 22, 1999 - 2:18 pm:

It must be the Feb sweeps, because I read an AP release in my local paper where
Chris was quoted talking about "No lie, the mythology will finally be wrapped up
in Feb...." Yeah, right

By Matt Thomas on Friday, January 22, 1999 - 8:06 pm:

For Adam Chmelka: Well, I'm just telling you what I saw. I realize that February isn't the usual time for season (series) enders, but, then again, The X-FIles isn't known for its sense of normalcy, either.

By MikeC on Saturday, January 23, 1999 - 1:07 pm:

Actually, while I openly dislike Fowley, I would prefer keeping Spender around at least for a little bit. I preferred him when he was just an arrogant agent. Arrogant, in for himself, but not a Consortium stooge, and not CSM's son, and not some idiot who "bonds with Pop in evil". Certainly not the idiot who diddles his thumbs, and sits around his office doing diddley. Spender is a good idea, but the creators need to do something with him.

Ever notice that they will kill off a fan favorite without hesitation, but characters the public at large hates will always remain? Hence, Bill Jr., Spender, Fowley, and Kersh remain, while Deep Throat, X, and the Well-Manicured Man go bye-bye. Actually, I think Bill Jr. is a fine character, it's just that he thinks Mulder is evil personified or something. Kersh COULD be a good character, but no, no he's just CSM stooge numero uno. Finally, Fowley, I only saw her in "The End", and in that episode, she reminded me of a bag of wood. Case closed.

:@)

By Murray Leeder on Saturday, January 23, 1999 - 10:56 pm:

ATTENTION! While wandering through a bookstore a few days okay, I came along something called "The Mixtake File". Flipping through it, I discovered that not only does it have an awful title, it's basically just a poor man's Nitpicker's Guide! It even uses some of the same terminology Phil does! It's no where near as classy a production (great big print to hide the absence of content), but I'm forced to wonder if there's lawsuit potential.

Does anyone know anything more about this travesty?

By Murray Leeder on Sunday, January 24, 1999 - 12:50 pm:

Okay, I do. Phil informed me that it started out in England and that Dell successfully blocked their release in North America until they removed their subtitle: "A Nitpicker's Guide for the X-Files". There ya have it.

By Mjohnson on Sunday, January 24, 1999 - 9:38 pm:

I honestly think that this really is the last season. After seeing the preview to Two Fathers and I don't see Carter just starting over. I must say that he would be insane to build up five years of suspense to blow it off in two weeks. I would love to see this be a "meridian" of the X-Files series, just erasing the board and starting over again, but as much as I idolize Chris Carter, I don't think that any man on earth could have enough creativity to start over after this much.

These people must be idiots to think that they could make a book like that unnoticed by this organization.

By Aaron on Monday, January 25, 1999 - 6:00 am:

There is no possible way for "Two Fathers" and "One Son" to be the season enders, because (1) it it's not even February yet, (2) there are still at least two more episodes to come, (3) there have only been 11 episodes so far, with the usual number being around 21, (4) the "summer" hiatus would last for NINE months, if next season follows the regular November debut, and (5) the fans (Us) would hate it!

By Nitpicking Lawyer on Monday, January 25, 1999 - 11:58 am:

After scrutenizing book after book of copyright law, I found a way to sue the
copiers

By Sarah on Tuesday, January 26, 1999 - 8:26 pm:

The interview I read with CCarter is that this two-part episode will explain the Conspiracy (wow...must be a 14-hour long episode!), and that NEXT season (the seventh) will probably be the last...I just betcha CCarter is doing a little media spin, as the ratings this season haven't been what they used to be...

By Kellkan on Wednesday, January 27, 1999 - 9:11 pm:

Mark, relax. If a source is cited, what's the prob? I understand the strength of your conviction, but the way I look at it this way:
If someone shoots off some excerpts from
a book and I like it a whole lot, I'm going to seek the book out, where I might not even have known about it otherwise.
Also: I buy alot of books at goodwill-type stores:
do the writers ever see any royalties through those operations?
But if you were trying to protect someone from being sued for illegally reproducing material w/o permission, well then I will just pipe down.

By Mark Morgan on Wednesday, January 27, 1999 - 10:33 pm:

With the proviso that they are cited excerpts, I have no problem with Nyla showing us some of the physics nits. But YOU said "Nyla, please post all." Don't just retype the whole book into the BBS!

Used books: at one time, someone bought it and paid the author royalties. Now you have it, but the other person doesn't. One person, one set of royalties, I'm cool. It's making copies that bothers me..to a point.

Ah, poo, this is way off topic now. I e-rant at ya.

By Nyla on Thursday, January 28, 1999 - 4:20 pm:

I'm not going to copy the whole thing, it'd take forever. :-) Trust me, I write
fanfic, I know about these things. Copyrights, and the relative morality therein.
:

By Kellkan on Friday, January 29, 1999 - 12:09 am:

Mark, I didn't think for a minute that anyone would re-write a whole book or any major portion of it in this forum. Here's a perfect example of how email can be really limiting. when I said "please post all" you misunderstood me. I meant that I would enjoy any thoughts, including those regarding that book, as well as others. You misinterpreted my statement. that's all I have to say about that.

By Mark Morgan on Friday, January 29, 1999 - 6:59 am:

Evidence again that sarcasm (this time, mine) is lost online. Sorry, Kell.

Nyla, what's the name of that book's author? Sounds like a keeper.

By MikeC on Monday, February 01, 1999 - 3:08 pm:

In regards to "Full Disclosure" (snicker snicker)

Personally, I feel that this "Full Disclosure" business is not going to end the show by any means. It might answer some (already obvious) questions, but it's merely just a neato Mythology episode that's getting a big buildup. If you recall the Movie had the same press (Carter says--"It's a treat for the fans--going to reveal at least one of the big mysteries."), and that revealed almost nothing (except for the ALIEN ripoff).

WHAT I THINK WILL HAPPEN:
Spender will die. He's got "KILL ME" written all over him. Probably going to be flamed by one of the Faceless Rebels, just like Quiet Willy.
Krycek is going to do another "disappearance" bit, in which everybody thinks he will die, but he's not. He's just hiding in Honduras, and will pop up later with his killer Chupacabra, which he uses to bite off the CSM's hand. :)
Skinner...hmm. I think it would be very dramatic and moving if he did die (heroically, mind you), but I don't think he will.
Mulder finds Samantha...for two minutes.
Scully is "abducted" by the aliens. She later reappears, remembering nothing. However, she has been brainwashed to--do some nasty act.
Kersh turns out to be a shapeshifter. He is killed by the Bounty Hunter fella.
CSM is not an alien, he's a human. He will betray the Consortium heads, and possibly kill a few of them.
The black oil is actually the main ingredient in Pepsi One, and Cuba Gooding Jr. is a Shapeshifter.

If this does happen, wow!

Mike (sarcasm)

By XPS on Tuesday, February 02, 1999 - 12:30 pm:

Does anyone think that X-Files and Millenium take place in the same universe? They both guest-starred Josè Chung.

Shouldn't Millenium have a board? Everything else seems too, and why not Lost in Space

By Dori-Ann on Tuesday, February 02, 1999 - 2:34 pm:

I am so unhappy that FOX carries the Superbowl... That means I miss X-Files. Seems to me whenever they want to do a Fox special (yech), they have it on Sun. Okay, I'm whining, but I hate "missing" weeks.

By Andrew on Tuesday, February 02, 1999 - 2:37 pm:

Well, it would have been a rerun anyway...

By Hans Thielman on Tuesday, February 02, 1999 - 2:39 pm:

If CBS or ABC had carried the Super Bowl, I suspect FOX would have aired an X Files rerun. I'm so sorry. I meant an encore presentation.

By Mike Johnson on Sunday, February 07, 1999 - 11:00 am:

I don't know about a mutual universe between the X-files and Millenium, but they do have many parallels.

All this season all main characters have been off of the project that actually gave each their names (Frank Black quit the Millenium Group and M&S are off the X-Files). Also, did any one notice that when Skinner, the most frequently appearing non main character in the X-Files' life was in danger, Black's daughter was also about to die(who might I add has the same position as Skinner for Millenium).

By MikeC on Sunday, February 07, 1999 - 3:04 pm:

Millennium and X-Files are in the same universe, since Jose Chung was in an episode of each.

By Nyla on Monday, February 08, 1999 - 9:41 am:

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you, Mark, but the author is Jeanne
Cavelos, or something similar. I loaned it to a friend

By Deuce on Wednesday, February 10, 1999 - 7:20 pm:

Plus, someone on Millenium once commented on sending a case to "the clowns in the basement". :-D

By Matt Thomas on Wednesday, February 10, 1999 - 7:20 pm:

Does anybody know the name for the official 5th season guide to the 'Files, i.e. "Trust No one: The official Third Deason Guide to the X-Files"?

By Matthew Patterson on Saturday, February 13, 1999 - 7:18 pm:

Just an interesting bit of trivia: Jeanne Cavelos was the editor for the first two Nitpicer's Guides.

By Nyla on Sunday, February 14, 1999 - 2:04 pm:

Phat!

By Lauren Vogelbaum on Monday, February 15, 1999 - 9:56 am:

Matt, the fifth season guide is called "Resist or Serve"

About the parallel-tv show universe thing, I thought that it was interesting that in "The End" young Gibson was shown watching first "The Simpons" and later "King of the Hill." At the time that the episode aired, these two shows preceeded "The X-Files" on Sunday nights. So...what do M&S watch after "King of the Hill"?

By Murray Leeder on Wednesday, February 17, 1999 - 12:32 pm:

What? IMDB lists Chris Owens in four seperate roles on the The X-Files. Three are expect: Young Cigarette-Smoking Man, The Great Mutato and Jeffrey Spender. But what's with this:

"X Files, The" (1993) playing "Mulder's Dad" in episode: "Dreamland II" (episode # 6.5) 12/6/1998

By Joel Boutiere (Jboutiere) on Wednesday, February 17, 1999 - 12:53 pm:

About Chris Owens as Mr. Mulder: About the only place I think that could have happened in that episode is where Fletcher as Mulder (oh, no, not this again!) is looking over Mulder's history in the first segment of the show. Maybe Owens played Mulder's dad in that home movie of Fox as Spock, although I don't think we even saw Mr. Mulder in that segment. Maybe as an offscreen voice...dang, now I have to pull out that tape again and find out!

By Ben Jackson (Bjackson) on Sunday, February 21, 1999 - 10:14 pm:

The X-Files plot Producer!

Just make the choices below and fill in the blanks!

A. monster, mutant, prehistoric animal
B. A type of evironment
C. City in USA
D. Sheriff, Scientist, or paranormal fanatic
E. number between 4 and 8
F. Scully or Mulder

A A comes from B and turns up in C . Mulder and Scully go down to C and talk to D . The A kills E people. F finally figures out what it is and how to kill it when F get captured or attacked by the A . F stops it just before F is killed.

Unless it's a myth-arc. then it's completely different

were released on home video or just some of them.
Thanks.

By Charles Cabe (Ccabe) on Sunday, March 07, 1999 - 2:05 pm:

I think that just a few are avalable. They don't finish releasing episodes until a series finishes production. (For Example, TNG hasn't finished realesing it's 7th season.)

By Omer on Sunday, March 14, 1999 - 10:13 am:

By Chris Thomas on Thursday, June 24, 1999 - 3:23 am:

Forgive if I'm suffering from domestic blindness but I went to the Season Six board looking for the episode In The Big Innings, written and directed by David Duchovny, and couldn't find it anywhere.
Was it called something different in the US? It was the alien baseball player one in Roswell 1947.

By Charles Cabe (Ccabe) on Thursday, June 24, 1999 - 8:41 am:

It was called "The Unnatural" in the US.

By ScottN on Thursday, June 24, 1999 - 12:21 pm:

Which was, of course, a pun on Robert Redford's "The Natural"

By Chris Thomas on Friday, June 25, 1999 - 1:59 am:

I'm sorry - I realise what happened now - instead of "The Truth Is Out There" or "Trust No One" it said "In The Big Innings" and I stu-pidly thought that was the title, forgetting that comes a little later. My humblest apologies.

By ScottN on Friday, June 25, 1999 - 1:20 pm:

And "In The Big Innings" is of course, another pun. The other thing is that CC doesn't put the episode titles on screen!

By Chris Thomas on Saturday, June 26, 1999 - 12:46 am:

Well, ScottN, my humblest apologies yet again for being such an ignoramus.

So does Mulder's alter-ego have a swollen head
or what?
BTW:It WAS in today's SPOKESMAN REVIEW which is
the paper that covers Spokane and Eastern Washington as well as Northern Idaho,so I am not
making it up!!!

By Lauren on Thursday, August 19, 1999 - 12:52 am:

Yeah, I heard about that in Newsweek. There's a little blurb on the last page... I wouldn't put it past Duchovny. I'm sure that he and his wife could use the extra 25 million, don't get me wrong, but the whole thing as I understand it seems a bit silly. How is it that someone who's so cute can cause so much unnecessary trouble?

By Scott McClenny on Monday, August 23, 1999 - 3:06 pm:

From what I read in yesterday's tv guide section
of the Sunday paper if the X-Files does go past
seven seasons then Gillian Anderson will either
be playing Scully on her own or they will have
to find a new partner for her as Duchovny is
definitely bowing out after this year.
This is getting to be like an X-File of it's
own in a way.

By notv on Monday, August 23, 1999 - 8:21 pm:

Does continuing on without Mulder strike anyone
else as a really, REALLY bad idea? I mean, I am
terribly heartbroken about the poteneial end of
X-files and will probably require extensive
theropy, but to me without Mulder there is no
show. Scully rocks, but the interaction between
the two is what makes the show special. Trying to
do it without Moulder would be a big mistake.

By ScottN on Tuesday, August 24, 1999 - 12:43 am:

You're probably right, notv, but maybe Ratboy could take over? Highly unlikely, I know.

By notv on Tuesday, August 24, 1999 - 5:03 pm:

Hmm, now that is an intesting idea. I would
cetiantly be better than some new guy we've never
met before. I have grown very fond of ratboy over
the years and it would be interesting. For me
though, the appeal of Ratboy is the fact that we
love to hate him. If the character were put in a
position where we would be expected to sympathize
with him (as I'm assuming would happen if he
became a star of the show) he would lose a great
deal of his allure.

By ScottN on Thursday, September 23, 1999 - 1:55 am:

Bulletin Brash Reflections: XFiles: Updates

By Joel Boutiere (Jboutiere) on Wednesday, September 22, 1999 - 09:02 pm:

Don't look now, but I'm actually updating the board! ... So there is a new board in the Kitchen Sink section called, "How Should It End?" With rumors rampant about the seventh season maybe being the last, how should the X-Files saga end? Should the entire conspiracy be revealed? Should mankind finally realize the existance of aliens? Should Mulder wake up next to Scully and realize that the past seven years were all a dream, and that he's really an insurance salesman from Muncie? Post away.

November 7th, 7th season

I take this post to mean that we have to wait until Nov. 7th to see it. I am curious about the "Muncie" comment. I was born in Muncie, IN. Could Joel mean that Muncie?

By Joel Boutiere (Jboutiere) on Thursday, September 23, 1999 - 1:27 pm:

According to the ever-wonderful Tiny Dancer's webpage, the first new episode will be shown November 7th. I don't know if it has changed since then, but TD usually has the straight scoop on the show.

As far as the Muncie comment, that was just me putting up one of my oddball jokes that, apparently, nobody got. I just wanted to think of some strange way for the show to end, and "Muncie" was just in my mind as a relatively boring city name. If I have offended any of the good people of Muncie, my most humble apologies :*)

By Mike Deeds on Friday, September 24, 1999 - 8:18 am:

Joel, I took no offense so no apology was necessary. I was just curious. I see no need for another "Indiana Slander" board. I think that there is also a town named Muncie in Wisconsin. So, since you didn't specify a state, I could just as easily assume that a Wisconsin Slander board was required. :*) As for "Muncie" being a "relatively boring city name", the town in Indiana was named after an Indian (or Native American to be PC) chief. Their spelling was Munsee but it was obviously "Americanized". Just a little history lesson. Since XF started, I have hoped that an episode would take place in Indiana even though that would probably mean a monster was on the loose killing Hoosiers. XF has had multiple episodes take place in Pennsylvania (where I currently live).

Ok,so I was reading the paper today and on the
tv page they had an item where it was reported
that FOX finally cancelled BEVERLY HILLS 90210,
further on in the same item it was reported
that both X-FILES and PARTY OF FIVE are also
ending this season.
That got me to thinking about the following
question:Is the FOX Network doomed?
I mean it seems that they haven't had a very
successful season this year and with three of
their more popular shows all ending at the same
time it doesn't seem, with the exception of ALLY
MCBEAL and THE SIMPSONS,that FOX really has much
to offer any more.
Or as Harry Solomon once put it in a 3rd ROCK
episode:"And FOX is not a network."

By Mike Deeds on Friday, March 17, 2000 - 1:45 pm:

The following is from Wrapped in Plastic magazine #45 (Feb. 2000) by John Pierce (page 19):

"As for the Millennium crossover issue, evidently most XF fans didn't follow the other show on a regular basis. Millennium had a really elaborate mythology, in which the world was threatened by an imminent apocalypse unrelated to that in XF. Moreover, the Millennium Group was as powerful in its world as the Elders in XF; in the second season finale, it had apparently set off an earthquake and a major plague. While the latter was scaled down to almost nothing in the third season, the implication remained that the Group had all the power it needed to bring off an apocalypse. But in the XF crossover, most of the Group has disappeared, and all this one holdout can come up with is a corporal's guard of
zombies - not exactly Night of the Living Dead! As for the Morley cigarette and Jose Chung, those teases had been contradicted by an episode in which 'Kill Switch' is playing on somebody's TV set. Perhaps Millennium was taking place in a parallel universe in which Chung also lived and Morleys were a brand. In any case, this was not a crossover that 'had to be'."

This theory would also take care of the XF/Homicide nit. There would be two universes - In the Homicide universe, XF is a fictional show. In the XF universe, there happens to exist a Homicide character (perhaps based on the "real" one from
the other universe). Well, so much for linking XF to other shows (i.e. XF to Homicide to St. Elsewhere to Cheers).

Since I was NOT a regular viewer of Millennium, are Pierce's comments valid? Maybe, Chris Carter should have concluded the UFO storyline and then
incorporated Millennium's "mythology" into XF. I always thought Millennium had untapped potential (similar to another spin-off - Star Trek Voyager).

By annelies mariano on Thursday, July 20, 2000 - 7:00 am:

I couldn't figure under what board to post this comment, so I'll put it here by default. Bare with me, I'm living in a backward underdeveloped country that is only showing season six, so I'm theorizing about something I haven't seen yet. ;-)

*spoiler comment ahead*

I have this interesting theory to posit: would it be fun and twisted if the eighth season reveals that Scully is pregnant with Mulder's baby, BUT they didn't do the nasty at all? Given all the number of tests run on Mulder, it sure would have been easy for someone like Cancerman to collect some sperm the same way they collected Scully's ova. Cancerman would only need some test tubes and the opportunity to implant it back into Scully...

I really kind of like the idea of this being the solution, since it gives shippers something to sigh about (she's-having-his-baby-mush) and non-shippers something to applaud (hey, they-didnt-do-it.)

Does this sound remotely plausible to anyone?

By Electron on Thursday, July 20, 2000 - 8:03 pm:

It seems that Robert Patrick got the role as Scully's new partner.

By MarkN on Saturday, July 22, 2000 - 3:07 am:

What are shippers and non-shippers?

By Msmith (Msmith) on Saturday, July 22, 2000 - 4:10 pm:

MarkN, shippers are "relationshippers" -- people who want to see Mulder and Scully in a relationship. Non-shippers don't want that to happen.

By Sarah Perkins on Saturday, July 22, 2000 - 10:04 pm:

May I add to the definition? Non-shippers like the Partnership. It is a *romantic* relationship we would rather not see M&S in. We like the partnership too much to want it messed with by romance. I think they would have to stop working together if they ever actually *got* together.

However, I acknowledge that it is probably just a matter of time till they make a serious couple...hopefully not actually during the series!

[BTW, Scully does not need a new partner! If we close our eyes, hum real loud and ignore him, perhaps he'll go away....]

My own personal term for this is "The Moonlighting Effect". See Also ADDISON, DAVID and HAYES, MADELINE.

Sarah Perkins, I heard Robert Patrick will not be Scully's new partner. He will play Agent John Doggett, a DiehardSkeptic who is brought on to help with the search. (why they are bringing a Diehard Skeptic to assist with an alien abduction case is beyond me . . .) (as a side note, there is obviously some sort of skeptic mail order catalogue where we can get these made for the express purpose of making belivers' lives miserable. Think how many there've been so far.) I also heard he will be around for all of season 8, even when Mulder is there, too. All I can say, is for his own good and continued healthy existence, he doesn't try anything too drastic . . .

Can someone tell me what this "X-Files" thing is all about? I've only seen it a few times here in the UK and it seems rather silly. Why do you like it?

By trekkerxphile on Thursday, August 24, 2000 - 8:54 pm:

I like it cuz it's cool!!! Okay, obviously that doesn't help much. Ummmm, I got hooked last year cuz of the characters. Every 'phile will tell you a different reason why they like the show, so don't quote me on this and nobody kill me. What got me was the back-and-forth stuff between Mulder and Scully. I really find their relationship interesting cause they know each other better than anybody but they still disagree all the time. That's basically what I like it -- the characters, and it can often be really well written. I'm not as into the alien abductions and government conspiracies and stuff (nobody kill me!). But I think their relationship is worth watching.

Muncie laboratory watching

By KEITH ROYSDON

MUNCIE - When the FBI agents of The X-Files investigate strange goings-on
at a Muncie metallurgy lab during Sunday night's episode, one group of local
residents will be watching closely.

No one in town will be more interested than the 71 employees of Muncie's only
metallurgy lab.

"There's a lot of interest," said Larry Herker, vice president of marketing for
Sherry Laboratories. "We'll be watching."

A few weeks ago, The Star Press reported that Sunday's episode of the Fox
thriller series would be set in Muncie. The episode was written by Jeff Bell, a
former Indianapolis resident. His mother is a former Muncie resident. His
grandmother still lives in Muncie.

The Star Press was contacted by the show's production department, which
wanted permission to reproduce the newspaper.

Production employees revealed the episode would be set in a local metallurgy
lab and involve an employee who becomes a half-human, half-metal hybrid.

Muncie at the movies

By KEITH ROYSDON

MUNCIE - Possibly because of its reputation as Middletown, the typical small
American city, Muncie has been the setting for or mentioned in a number of
movies and television shows:

Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Probably the best known fictional use
of Muncie, the 1977 Steven Spielberg film is set in large part in the city, as the
character portrayed by Richard Dreyfuss becomes obsessed with unidentified
flying objects and the mother played by Melinda Dillon loses her toddler son to
a UFO. Some references to the town were accurate - including a mention of
Cornbread Road - but others were not, most notably a police-UFO chase
scene that ends with a police car driving off a steep hillside overlooking a
valley.

Muncie officials had hoped to entice Spielberg into making the movie here and
reportedly bought new police cars as part of the effort. The movie was filmed
in California and Alabama, however.

Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N. - Dick Van Dyke starred in this 1966 movie about
a Navy pilot stranded on an island. At one point, he angrily complains that
makeshift navigational equipment will only tell him how many miles it is to
Muncie.

Bikini Summer - A contestant in a wet T-shirt contest in this 1991 teen flick
is introduced as "Holly from Muncie, Indiana."

The Hudsucker Proxy - The Tim Robbins character in this 1994 farce went
to business school in Muncie.

Tom Slick - The 1967 Saturday morning cartoon often featured race car
driver Tom Slick in a race from Pittsburgh to Muncie.

The Simpsons - The Fox animated series has made several references to
Muncie. School Supt. Chalmers went to Ball State University, he noted in one
episode. Another Simpsons character, the hoodlum Snake, "played lacrosse for
Ball State." That fact is mentioned when prison officials tried to execute the
criminal.

I seriously doubt they hit Kentucky. When they want a "Southern" ep. they go to Tennesse. When the want a "Midwestern" ep. the hit Indiana. Since Kentucky is neither, Scully and Doggett won't be here any time soon. (If you doubt me, check the facts: IN, 2; TN, 2; KY, 0.)

I do have a question for the first one, they say this guy can detect other parts of the light spectrum, beyond visible light, which gives him the ability to see through walls. Later they show from his POV what it looks like and it just looks normal, but wouldent it look more like what Geordie see's through his visor (and be very confusing)?

annelies, that sounds mildly plausible to me. In fact, Cancerman does have an opportunity in the 7th season to do something like that. I'm a non-shipper who would still rather see that baby be Mulder's than someone else's, so your theory appeals to me!
