Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: XFiles: Season Nine: 4-D

When Reyes goes to "pull the plug" on Doggett, she flips open a little thing on the ventilator, and presses a button that lights up. I have never seen a device that lights up to let you know it's off.

im a bit confused, after she "pulls the plug" did she suddenly appear in her appartment? or was that a while after? So what happened to the dogget in the hospital? Did he disapear after he died?

"Too much Star Trek" - GREAT line. This episode is a classic example of what the Chief (i.e. Phil) described as the "reset button". I don't think it makes sense but when Reyes "pulls the plug" it resets everything back to the start of the episode. So, apparently, the only one who will remember the events of this episode is Reyes. To me, it would have made more sense to have the hospital Doggett disappear and the "real" Doggett reappear. I suspect that wasn't done as there would be no rational way that Doggett could explain that.

Just a few things, I don't know anything about Morse code, but is there actually an entry for a question mark? That seemed kind of odd.

A bad nit, that morning when Reyes was shaving Doggett, when she returned there was -no- stubble.

To turn off the alarm for the machine she 'pulled the plug' from, does anyone know if there really just one button? ;p

Hrm, anyways, the way I'd figure it, when she turned the thing off, I assumed that Doggett would disappear from where he was, and reappear from wherever he was in the alternate universe. But right up to the point, I was thinking 'how the hell are they gonna explain this?' so I guess they took the easy way out..

From what I remember of my times in the ER and hospital the button that says alarm silence/reset is just one button. So I guess just one button would do it.

Is Lukesh still alive in the parallel universe? Why didn't he escape to avoid being shot? Was it because he didn't think they would catch up with him in time?

What exactly is Scully' role, now? I understand why she would be at the hospital, but why was she at the stakeout? Isn't she supposed to be an instructor at Quantico?

By MikeC on Tuesday, December 11, 2001 - 2:25 pm:

A very good episode, with an outstanding guest role from the guy playing Lukesh.

Time is the fourth dimension (4D), and it was interesting to see the sort of the recurring time motif (Lukesh memorized the time he was gone, Follmer wants news on time, etc.).

I also wondered if Lukesh would still be alive in the parallel dimension. Also, were there two Lukeshes at one point? Why would Lukesh ever come forward and name Reyes as the shooter?

Superb opening, by the way.

I haven't been able to catch the X-Files since the Season premier. Can somebody tell me how they wrote out Mulder, and if the baby is still part of the storyline?

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 - 5:11 pm:

Basically, Kersh came across information that Mulder's life was at risk, so Scully supported Mulder as he took off for his own safety. And the baby is part of the storyline... they have hinted that little William has some unique abilities (telekinesis and the such).

How does Reyes know there is only one parallel dimension, and not several dozens (like sliders?)

I wondered why everything is reset, too.

why in the teaser is reyes going ahead alone? They already know lukesh is dangerous! I thought the basic rule of cop-work is to never go alone, always take your partner to watch your back.

Why does Reyes never try to phone her Doggett?

By WolverineX (Wolverinex) on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 - 6:36 am:

I'm also left wondering how come her Doggett simply disappeared, and why things reset back at the end..

I loved the first half or practically all of the episode, but I didn't like the ending.

If time re-sets, then did anything happen to either Lukesh or his mother? Might as well had a follow up scene where he's serving her her tomato juice and questionable meat sandwich again. :P

Many devices I have now uses the LED to show it's off... TV, DVD player....
