Trust No 1

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: XFiles: Season Nine: Trust No 1

By supercooladdict on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 10:28 pm:

Not bad, aside from all the Mulder baiting.

Scully was definately pining over Mulder this week that's for sure.

I really hope Terry Quinn makes some more appearances, his Characters on Millenium and Harsh Realm were always great.

Also his appearance here opens up an interesting discussion. Since Frank Black exists in the X-Files, does Quinn's Peter Watts? Is "Shadow Man" was he's credited a clone of him? Is there a relation? Is it strange genetics?

By supercooladdict on Sunday, January 06, 2002 - 10:44 pm:

Oh yeah, I forgot Terry O'Quinn's other X-Files character, Darius Michaud (the FBI guy that getting blown up in the Texas Federal Building). It's interesting in this discussion, since both Mulder and Scully worked with him.

By Nobody Else on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 12:29 am:

He was also in "Aubrey"

By Jon Wade on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 6:50 am:

I suppose that Scully could make an amulet out of the iron from the quarry...but would that cause various supersoldiers to be zapped into it, making it heavy?

By Ablackburn on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 3:06 pm:

Working on the assumption that Scully only contacted Mulder by email, was it totally out of the question to attain Scully's password and email Mulder from that? ;p

Also, Scully's email address is queequeg something or other ;)

Not really a nit, but I can imagine 'NSA' operations.

"Meet my in front of the internet cafe. *click*
All right! NSA Strategic Vehicle Placement! I need cars here, here, here and here! Make sure car 2 has an outfit in Scully's size and style!"

"Yes sir!"

By ScottN on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 4:29 pm:

Also, Scully's email address is queequeg something or other ;)

That's the dog from Season 3's "Quagmire".

By Brian Fitzgerald on Monday, January 07, 2002 - 8:13 pm:

It was also Scully's father's nick name for her as a child. It was a character from Moby Dick

By y2kyle on Tuesday, January 08, 2002 - 12:37 pm:

So how many of you have sent mail to "trust_no1@mail.com"?

I find it funny that I use the same e-mail service as Mulder...or should I say he uses the same one as me?

By Anonymous on Tuesday, January 08, 2002 - 1:54 pm:

Scully's father's nickname for her as a child was "Starbuck" and she called him "Ahab" both characters from Moby Dick.

By Brian Fitzgerald on Tuesday, January 08, 2002 - 8:06 pm:

You're right. It was starbuck, shows why posting at midnight is a bad idea.

By Jason on Wednesday, January 09, 2002 - 7:18 pm:

If the evil, bad guy wanted to kill Moulder, he kinda jumped the gun (pun intended) in the assassination. Shouldn't he have waited until Moulder appeared before making his move. If the object was just to kill Scully, why bother with all the dancing around the countryside? Why not just kill her in a mysterious exploding car?

By Miko Iko on Wednesday, January 09, 2002 - 8:03 pm:

Alas, CC's just grasping at straws it seems.

This has probably been said numerous times in reference to the X-Files, but it was glaringly obvious in this ep: I want one of those everlasting cell phone batteries that Scully has! She starts out on her little junket 30 minutes after waking up and ends it in total darkness, being given direction the whole time. 10-12 hours of talk time? Maybe the car had a charger that we didn't see.

Didn't Scully get Queequeg from Clyde Bruckman? I don't think that reminding us of past glories is helping things much :)

By Miko Iko on Wednesday, January 09, 2002 - 8:04 pm:

BTW, the reference to Scully's real hair color was a nice one.

By Ablackburn on Thursday, January 10, 2002 - 6:45 pm:

I believe it was Clyde Bruckman.

And was later devoured by either a large crocodile, or the Loch Ness monster ;p

By Len on Tuesday, January 22, 2002 - 1:14 pm:

So is this episode the closest we've come to an actualy admission that Mulder is the father of Scully's baby?

By Anonymous on Friday, May 24, 2002 - 11:27 am:

Who nicknames their kid QueeQuag? That kid's gonna grow up with some serious issues.

By Brian Fitzgerald on Friday, May 24, 2002 - 2:03 pm:

Anonymous, I was wrong about it being her nickname, her's was starbuck, another character from Moby Dick.

Whats so strange about scullys phone? I thought it depends on the model of the phone - I bought esp. a nokia modell, because tests said the battery would last 48-50 hrs. Or are american models and nets different?

So, doggett believes his informant first, then disbelieves him and thinks its a trap in a matter of hours, again? After the trouble doggett had with rohrer, shouldn't he be more careful? And even considering that scully is pining for mulder, why isn't scully more sceptical? She should be used to the idea that even if an informant is sincere, his superior can be manipulating him like a pawn, so it still can be a trap.

what good would the names of the supersoldiers be, anyway? Once they run away, they can assume any other name. After the seasons opener, I would be much more interested in how to kill these guys permanently.

mulder is once again showing his psychic powers: he just knows that there is a quarry (or rather, a mine), which contains a substance which is deadly for the supersoldiers. (he read the script?)

So, the lab can't map the DNA, but it contains iron. What kind of DNA is that supposed to be? How would that work? What does it have to do with the super-powers? How do "they" change the DNA of adult persons (the soldiers dogget knew in the opener) in every cell to super-soldier-DNA?

A pity that in the opener, scully didn't take a blood sample from the female supersoldier to experiment on!

I defintely hope scully and mulder have some code words set up, because if scullys email can be read that easily, it would be easy to lure mulder with a fake mail.

why does scully go to an internet cafe anyway - does she have no internet at home, or is she worried about being tracked? Then she should take more precautions. What about the lone gunmen, for example?

Scully is standing around for over one hour (22:48, when the train comes at midnight) on a cold station - I hope she doesn't catch a cold...

conviently, the evil guy when shot falls right down between the tracks, so he isn't harmed by the train. But nonetheless I'm surprised, because the oncoming train looks to be very close to the ground, with not that much room to spare...

Funnily enough, the announcer doesn't tell where the train comes from and goes to - he must want to keep mulders secret, too :)

who is watching william when scully is working? I thought her mother stepped in right after the birth, but is she still doing it? We don't see any sitter when scully is around at quantico (I wondered about this with the other ep.s, too.)
How do you tell a sitter that your child may show telekinetic powers? :)

how much time has passed after birth, anyway? Scully is very fit, but william doesn't look that old to me.

the romantic moments were very nice, and there was less gore than in the other eps.

By constanze on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 - 5:02 am:

ablackburn, clyde killed himself because he couldn't stand the visions he saw.

anonymous, I understood it to be a private nickname between her father and herself, not for outsiders.

By Jessica Hall on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 - 11:10 am:

Please can they get more actors for the extras?!?! I like Terry O'Quinn but I spent at five minutes waiting for Scully's "Wait a sec....aren't you dead?". I thought it was going to be great, he'd just kind of shrug, and then it would look like a cover up (I mean, Scully does *know* that he did not try to defuse the bomb in the movie) but instead it's a "Yes, he looks identical ("surely an X-file in itself!") but we're not going to mention that". *sigh*.
