Wow! Super-subtle continuity!!!

Doggett calls the rarely-mentioned-I-mean-like-not-since-Season-One-mentioned "Danny" to get a phone call traced! Mulder used to call him, too, remember??

I think new new season is actually going rather swimmingly... I can't say I like the new intro, not like I liked the old one too much either... Did you know that it doesn't always say the truth is out there? Occasionally, It says something else, which is wonderful. But really, I'm tired of the "I've seen things I can't deny." line, although I was quite proud Scully didn't abuse/overuse it like usual... I really think though, that they overplay the doggit/scully deal... He definitely should not have agreed when she said she made a mistake. That's bad :) Well glade the board is up!

By Sarah Perkins on Tuesday, November 28, 2000 - 7:58 pm:

My long-time X-Phile friend Kim (she owns the Dana Scully: the Woman and the Role Model fansite)says this episode freaked her out more than "Flukeman", which she used to call the most distgusting ep. I can personally vouch for the fact that she was tense as anything, and screaming at more than one point (I won't tell you what I was doing...she has a better stomach for that stuff than I do...). Partly, I'm sure, because she is an out-and-out Scullyist, and also becasue of the pregnancy.
CC and company are certainly doing their best to deliver the essence of the X-Files even with Mulder missing--and from what I just saw (esp. with my friend's reaction), they are suceeding par excellence!

A well-produced ep, as usual. Either Gillian's acting was a bit off at the beginning (since when is Scully quite that bouncy?), or that was another manifestation of the changes Scully is going through as she has to work more indepentdantly. Given the ending of the ep, I'd say the latter, esp. considering Gillian's consistantly good performances.

Will there be at least one oblique reference to the baby in each ep this season? I'm going to be watching! See my second post under "Patience"; here we have Scully touching her tummy as she decends the steps from the cult leader's house. [not to mention Scully's heartrending attempt to get the cult to spare her!... I had the shivers there....]

Unlike VaguelyWeird, I loved the ending. Doggett won't soften Scully's mistake for her, but he's still the connsumate gentleman.

Continuity Nit? That parasite seemed a lot bigger outside the bodies than inside. Could someone confirm (I didn't actually see Doggett get it out of Scully)?

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE

Yeah, that creature looked a tad huge to me outside of the bodies.
And what was that thing anyway? Reminded me of the Arctic Circle alien worms episode, only bigger.

And why would those people think it was the second coming?

Location Nit: Juab County, Utah is high mountain desert. It has a lot of sage and Cedar. And certainly NOT any Joshua trees.

By Hans Thielman on Wednesday, November 29, 2000 - 11:50 am:

Agent Doggett referred to 47 members of the cult.

By Josh M on Wednesday, November 29, 2000 - 4:43 pm:

Of course, California has Joshua trees. I thought it was kind of funny once again seeing Scully walk around the desert in shoes with heels that big.

By DonnaL on Thursday, November 30, 2000 - 1:43 pm:

It made me laugh to see a close up of her heels, remembering Scully and Tea Leoni running through the background of the Hollywood episode last year.

Ick! This was a "TV-PG" episode?! While I can't say it was bad, it really wasn't good either. It was just there.

Favorite line:

"Yeah, you screwed up."

By Sarah Perkins on Friday, December 01, 2000 - 3:12 pm:

Was it rated TV-PG on your station? One of the channels I watch X-Files on always gives a "mature and graphic content" warning before the show, and the other gives ratings; I don't think I've seen an X-File be lighter than a TV-14.

By MikeC on Saturday, December 02, 2000 - 2:06 pm:

It got a "PG" on my station--as far as I can recall.

The only "mature and graphic content" episodes I can remember on my station were "Home" (obviously) and "Patient X"/"The Red and the Black".

By Sarah Perkins on Sunday, December 03, 2000 - 4:56 pm:

That's irresponsible of them--rating like that. I can think of some X-Files that could be TV-PG, but as you said, "Roadrunner" was not one of them. Global TV just covers its bases by always having the "mature and graphic content" warning before every showing--maybe they don't have a ratings person to screen it beforehand. Stations are weird....

By Jayson Spears on Monday, December 03, 2001 - 12:52 pm:

Here is a nit:
Near the beginning after Scully drives 15-20 miles from the murder scene to the gas station, she gets out of her car, opens a map and puts her hands directly on the hood of her car! After driving 20 miles in the desert heat, the hood of her car should be really HOT!

ICK! I remember watching this one I was switching back and forth between it and Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, partly because WWTBA had a high-level contestant, partly because this episode was grossing me out.

I give it credit though; it never tries to get too clever. There's a big worm like thing and it goes into people. There you go.

Someone who watched the episode with me was quite disgusted by what they claimed was anti-religious imagery. I didn't see it necessarily that way, but I understand the sentiment.

It was like a b-movie plot. Not the best ep, possibly the worst Ive seen.

What?! No one has said it yet? "Oh my God, you killed Dax!" "You Bastard!" :P
