Some brash nits:
Van der Vuurst requests Tyburn not to give a description of the corpse as "there are ladies present". Yet right after he goes ahead and utters the S word.
How lovely it must be to have power and influence. Van der Vuurst gets off due to that rape story. I suspect if it had been heard by a jury that wasn't intimidated by his power and influence (and possibly if they weren't racially biased, though I can't recall if the jury had been all white or not), that pathetic little story wouldn't have been believed for a second.
A few more:
When they were receiving the telegram, I got the impression that Valentine was reading it off as it came in. Yet he seemed to be reading it a bit fast for it being just off the wire.
As the raiders retreat, Tyburn orders everyone to hold their fire (to conserve ammunition). Then he goes ahead and fires off a couple more shots.
