It's Time To Play "Guess the Movie Quote!"

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: The Cutting Room Floor (The Movies Kitchen Sink): Games: It's Time To Play "Guess the Movie Quote!"
By The Announcer on Sunday, May 14, 2000 - 4:19 pm:

Welcome to the new game that's sweeping this board, "Guess the Movie Quote!" Now, everybody's free to jump right in and volunteer a movie quote, so have fun!

Here's a couple to start off:

1. "Wake up! Betty Grable's on the phone!"

2. "Two dollars!!!"

By Tom Kun on Monday, May 15, 2000 - 8:31 pm:

"Two dollars!!!" is from Better off Dead.

And I'll volunteer one myself:
"She's short, but she's strong. Her first baby come out sideways, she didn't scream or nuthin'."

Anyone know where that's from? They keep playing that clip on Mix-102.9 whenever they do their all-80s music show.

By Slinky Frog on Sunday, May 28, 2000 - 6:23 pm:

Quote:

"She's short, but she's strong. Her first baby come out sideways, she didn't scream or nuthin'."

Doc Hollywood?

By Wes Coliins on Friday, June 16, 2000 - 1:30 pm:

Isn't that from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles?

By The Shadow, hauling out the old videos on Friday, June 16, 2000 - 5:02 pm:

I know, it sounds so familiar. It has to be a southern couple, I thought it was from Baby Boom, but maybe not.

By The Shadow, fan of old war flicks on Friday, June 16, 2000 - 5:08 pm:

Oh, by the way, I think that Betty Grable line is from Stalag 17.

By Lea Frost on Monday, June 19, 2000 - 10:54 pm:

Two more (may be slightly misquoted due to memory):

"If you want to write a serious opera about a starving prostitute dying of consumption in a garret, I suggest you ring up Oslo and ask for Mr. Ibsen. I'm sure he'd be happy to oblige."

"I have always been myself -- but now I seem more like myself. That is it, I think -- I remember how to seem."

By Anonymous on Friday, September 06, 2002 - 2:35 pm:

Please help me! I need the name of the movie in which a character repeatedly says the line "am I my brother's keeper?" All I know is that it was made in the late eighties/early nineties and the actors in it turned relatively famous. There was also a singer in the movie.

By Sven of Nine, one of several BMFs on Saturday, September 28, 2002 - 8:02 pm:

Anonymous - are you thinking about "New Jack City" (1991)? It had Ice-T and Vanessa Williams.

By Sarah on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 7:55 pm:

"I'm not really sure snakes got parts, but if I had to say, I'd say it was his knee!"
"What's for dessert? (Loud screeching noise) Squirrel!"

Both from same movie!

By Chris Diehl on Thursday, August 21, 2003 - 11:17 am:

Sarah, is the movie Christmas Vacation?
Sven, which Vanessa Williams are you referring to, the one who was on Melrose Place, or the one who was Miss America?
I have a quote. "You must chill! You must chill! I have hidden your keys!"

By Snick on Thursday, August 21, 2003 - 11:52 am:

"Say Anything".

By Chris Diehl on Thursday, August 21, 2003 - 7:24 pm:

Yes it is.

By Sarah on Monday, September 08, 2003 - 8:20 pm:

Chris Diehl,
No it's not Christmas Vacation, think Adam Sandler movies!
Ok, here's another one (different movie):
"I'm going to cut his heart out with a spoon and eat it! Why a spoon cousin? Because it's dull you twit, it'll hurt more!"

By Daroga on Monday, September 08, 2003 - 10:02 pm:

"Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves"

By Chris Diehl on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 8:28 pm:

1. "Do you realize it's snowing in my room?"
2. "If this guy owned a funeral home, nobody would die."
3. "It's Christmas Eve. I could be home right now drinking this monster egg nog my brother makes with lighter fluid."
4. "Maybe I can call you sometime, when you have no class."
5. "Take off that tie. It looks like you shot your couch."

By Snick on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 9:56 pm:

3. Better Off Dead

By Chris Diehl on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 10:38 pm:

That's right.

By John A. Lang on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 - 7:51 am:

"I don't need any charity from women in carriages!"

Who said it & what movie is it from?

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 - 12:13 pm:

ANSWER: (Highlight to answer)

Marina Sirtis as "Jackson's Girl" in the movie "The Wicked Lady"

By Chris Diehl on Friday, February 25, 2005 - 5:04 pm:

The answers to mine are:
1. Weird Science
2. Wall Street
3. Better Off Dead
4. Back to School
5. The Secret of My Success

By John A. Lang on Saturday, February 26, 2005 - 11:14 am:

Who said this and in what movie was it said?

"Fidelio"

(Hint: It's not "Amadeus")

By A wanker on Saturday, February 26, 2005 - 6:59 pm:

Why would it be? Fidelio was first performed 14 years after Mozart had died.

By Rodney Hrvatin on Sunday, February 27, 2005 - 3:56 am:

Here's some of my favourite quotes:

1) "What are you doing?"
"Just checking to see if I am standing on any plastic" (not quite exact)

2) "You're about as useful as a c**k-flavoured lollipop!"

3) "Yes I know that! I'm sorry, I didn't know you wrote that"
"I didn't"

4) "What's the matter? Steroids make you deaf??!!"

5) "You were great in Wall Street!"

6) "So if you're from Africa, how come you're white?"

A couple are dead-easy (just so you don't feel bad...)

By ScottN on Sunday, February 27, 2005 - 9:23 am:

5) Martin and Charlie Sheen -- Hot Shots!

By John A. Lang on Sunday, February 27, 2005 - 12:27 pm:

Well..here's the answer to mine: (Highlight)

Dr. William Hartford...(Tom Cruise) in "Eyes Wide Shut" while at the Orgy...it was the password to get in

By Tom Vane on Sunday, March 20, 2005 - 6:15 pm:

I'm afraid I don't recognize any from the last list. So here are a few more. Now, I know that after the last quote quiz I wrote in the Music board, you're probably thinking "Run away! Run away!" when you see my name here. But really, this time, I didn't intentionally throw in anything that nobody would recognize.

1. "Our blessed lady of acceleration don't fail me now!"
2. "He thinks he's Jewish. Wishes he was Jewish. Tells his family they're Jewish. Even though he's no more Jewish than he is a monkey."
3. "God giveth, and the DMV taketh away!"
4. "Yes, somebody stop the bleeding. She's ruining the parquet floor."
5. "Play with it pal, but don't talk to it."
6. "You are never gonna get to fly the space shuttle if you marry a stripper."
7. "I was better with you as a woman than I've ever been with a woman as a man."
8. "American components, Russian components, all made in Taiwan!"

By Rodney Hrvatin on Sunday, March 20, 2005 - 9:31 pm:

Well Tom, I don't recognise any of yours so we're even. here are the answers to my list (highlight to read)

1. Lethal Weapon 2

2.Dodgeball

3.Amadeus

4.The Running Man

5.Hot Shots Part Deux

6.Mean Girls

By ScottN on Sunday, March 20, 2005 - 11:33 pm:

Tom:

1. The Blues Brothers
8. Armageddon

By Benn on Monday, March 21, 2005 - 12:09 am:

7. "I was better with you as a woman than I've ever been with a woman as a man." - Tom Vane

That's Tootsie, I do believe.

"I like to watch." - Chauncy Gardner (What movie is that from? )

By Tom Vane on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 - 7:47 am:

Here's the answers. In case anyone doesn't want to know yet I'll do the highlight thing.

First, the quote at the top, "Run away! Run away!" is from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

1. The Blues Brothers
2. Snatch
3. License to Drive
4. Delirious
5. Innerspace
6. Independence Day
7. Tootsie
8. Armageddon

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 - 10:21 am:

Who said....

"I'm not his girl, he's my gangster"

and what movie was if from?

By Darth Sarcasm on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 - 10:53 am:

Nicole Kidman in Billy Bathgate.

By John A. Lang on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 - 12:03 pm:

DING! Score one for Darth! YAY!

Let's not forget....those two VERY HOT scenes with Nicole in them! WHOA!

By Tom Vane on Tuesday, October 04, 2005 - 10:06 pm:

I'm bored, why don't we do this again? And why don't we make it more interesting by selecting quotes which have a subtle common thread that you won't notice unless you recognize the quotes?

1. "My tolerance for your smoking in the mansion notwithstanding, continue smoking that in here, and you'll spend the rest of your days under the belief that you're a six-year-old girl."
2. "Big Jack! Don't knock, just come!"
3. "We ain't found s--t!"
4. "I don't have a gun. My ancestors were Quakers."
5. "Mr. President! Wow! This is... what a pleasure. As you can imagine, they... they don't let us out much."
6. "What's with dictionary boy over here?"
7. "My body is a roadmap of pain."
8. "You're hurt. You're tired. You're bleeding. I'm gonna make you a promise. We get into that endzone, you're not gonna feel any pain."
9. "I'm not a soldier, Major. The day we took hostages, we became... mercenaries. And mercenaries get paid."
10. (spoken very slow, deep, evil, and soullessly) "Jesus wept."

By ScottN on Tuesday, October 04, 2005 - 10:27 pm:

3. Spaceballs

By LUIGI NOVI on Tuesday, October 04, 2005 - 11:07 pm:

1. X-Men2

2. Innerspace

4. I seem to remember that line, but don't remember from where.

5. Independence Day

7. Sounds kinda familiar, but can't place it.

8. Sounds familiar. The Longest Yard? Or was it Necessary Roughness?

9. The Rock

10. I remember the line "The angels wept" from Working Girl, but not "Jesus wept."

By ScottN on Tuesday, October 04, 2005 - 11:44 pm:

I think that 8 was Necessary Roughness.

By Tom Vane on Wednesday, October 05, 2005 - 8:54 am:

Since we've identified 5 of them, can anyone figure out the theme?

By Tom Vane on Wednesday, October 05, 2005 - 8:55 am:

Did I say 5? I meant 6 (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9).

By ScottN on Wednesday, October 05, 2005 - 10:03 am:

Double checked (after my post). 8 is, in fact, Necessary Roughness.

By ScottN on Wednesday, October 05, 2005 - 10:05 am:

Is the theme: "Underdogs fighting a superior force, against overwhelming odds, and winning"?

By Tom Vane on Wednesday, October 05, 2005 - 11:12 am:

That's not it, but now that I think about it, it does describe several of the movies that the quotes came from.

By Tom Vane on Friday, October 07, 2005 - 11:27 am:

Amazing how fast people get bored with these. The common thread had to do with the people who said the lines.

1. Patrick Stewart, X-Men 2
2. Robert Picardo, Innerspace
3. Tim Russ, Spaceballs
4. William Shatner, Miss Congeniality
5. Brent Spiner, Independence Day
6. Colm Meaney, Con-Air
7. Jeffery Combs, The Frighteners
8. Scott Bakula, Necessary Roughness
9. Tony Todd, The Rock
10. Andrew Robinson, Hellraiser

By Snick on Friday, October 07, 2005 - 1:48 pm:

Nice! And I would have answered the ones I knew except I was beat to it. Anyone else have some?

By John A. Lang on Friday, October 07, 2005 - 2:37 pm:

Which movie is this quote from & what year?

"It neutralizes meson somehow. They're the atomic glue holding matter together. Cut across their lines of magnetic force and any object will simply cease to exist. Take my word for it, General, this type of defense is useless against that kind of power! You'd better let Washington know, fast!"

Very good, 74s TM.

By ScottN on Saturday, October 08, 2005 - 11:56 am:

Wrong Anonymous22. You're thinking of The Eiger Sanction. However, the quote is from Dirty Harry. The exact quote is:

Quote:

Harry Callahan:

I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

(Source IMDB).

By ScottN on Saturday, October 08, 2005 - 11:56 am:

And note, I didn't answer 3. I said 4(a) and 4(b) because you gave two 4s.

By ScottN on Sunday, October 09, 2005 - 10:22 pm:

Anonymous22, the transporter malfunction at the beginning had absolutely nothing to do with McCoy's reluctance to use the transporter. It was an established character trait long before that.
