The best segment in the entire flick was "The Trial Of Captain Sternn." I'm laughin' just thinking about that bit. I also loved "Den."

By ScottN on Tuesday, March 28, 2000 - 11:06 pm:

The opening sequence was good, with the 'Vette dropped from the space shuttle.

I also liked the B-17 segment.

Was "Den" the Sammy Hagar segment?

I liked Taarna. She kicked *ss.
I heard that they were going to make a sequel to Heavy Metal based on Taarna.

Death! Death to all who oppose us!

Meg: no. The second movie, "Heavy Metal 2000" is about a woman warrior named F.A.K.K.2, modeled on B-movie star Julie Strain.

Who?
Mrs. Kevin Eastman.

Kevin who?
Owns Heavy Metal magazine.

How'd he rate?
Made a bunch of money with some "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" thing he and Peter Laird dreamt up over beer one day.

Anyhoo, F.A.K.K.2 goes on a mission to revenge her home, turned from a paradise to a bad place by some Evil People. She got her name from her planet's name, and God help me, I do not remember what the letters stand for. It's not connected to the original movie save by the name, and it's animated. I think F.A.K.K.2 was a Heavy Metal storyline, but I picked up one issue a couple of years ago and discovered it is not much more than porn nowadays. Maybe it always was, and I was just too adolescent to know better.

In other news, Julie Strain recently griped about the rumors that Sandra Bullock is being considered for a proposed Wonder Woman movie. "You've got to have someone in that role who's willing to show some t*ts." Ever the thespian.

On their "Fire of an Unknown Origin" album, Blue Oyster Cult had recorded four songs intended for the movie "Heavy Metal." One song was called "Heavy Metal: The Black and Silver." Another was "Don't Turn Your Back", intended for the cab driver sequence. Then there's one of my favorite B.O.C. songs, "Vengence (The Pact)". Originally subtitled "Taarna's Theme", the song in 4:40 tells the entire Taarna story. Which is why it was rejected. Then of course, there's "Veterans of the Psychic Wars", the only song used. Often when performing this song live, B.O.C. will announce that it's from the "Heavy Metal" soundtrack.

I saw "Heavy Metal 2000" this past weekend and liked the CGI, but I didn't care much for the animation, which was so out of place against the CGI backgrounds, and not well drawn at all, either. There's also a videogame of this movie, complete with the character "inspired" by Julie Strain.

Heavy Metal

In the Harry Canyon segment, the WTC is still standing in 2031.

By CR on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 5:13 pm:

Rebuilt, perhaps?

By ScottN on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 - 5:34 pm:

To answer my own question (March 29, 2000 - 12:08 am), "Den" is not the Sammy Hagar segment. That one is "So Beautiful and So Deadly". That's the one with the stoned aliens.

The "Den" segment was with the geek turned hero. Don't remember what the music was for that one.

By ScottN on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 - 5:38 pm:

The DVD has a "lost segment". Apparently, due to running length considerations, this segment was cut. It was supposed to be a segue between Sternn and the B-17, essentially recapping all of history from the formation of Earth to WWII.

It also shows the alternate wrapper stories they were considering (as opposed to the little girl trapped in the house with the Loch Nar).

Taarna was HOT HOTTIE HOT

That B-17 segment was the scariest part, IMO.

The guy opens the door and see his zombified crew there.
