One of those epics that sort of deserve the name, at least for the cast.

NITS
*Eli Wallach is one of the worst train robbers I have ever seen. Did he and his men just not think there was going to be anyone guarding the gold? They walk right in there like they're going to a party. No wonder George Peppard got his brother!

*Perhaps I just didn't put two and two together, but where did Debbie Reynolds get the ranch in Arizona? Did she get this from Robert Preston, or did she buy it herself?

*Being that Jimmy Stewart is and appears to be in this film ten years older than Carroll Baker, and she is rather old by the time the Civil War rolls around, how old is Stewart? Is he in shape to actually fight?

*One thing that I wish was played on--the railroad that Gregory Peck founds. I wish Peppard and Widmark worked for Peck in the film, as it would tie things together more. The ending is goofy, as the movie turns into "High Noon" for no reason. Peppard looks like an old Paul Newman too!

*Why exactly does the Confederate deserter try to shoot Grant? Does he really want to die?

I believe that Debbie & her then, late husband Gregory Peck, had made & lost several fortunes over the years. One of their investments was the ranch in Arizona, which they managed to hang onto.
