Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Action/Adventure: The Fast and the Furious
By Brian Kelly on Sunday, February 10, 2002 - 8:29 am:

Reaction to this film was either like-it or hate-it. What was yours?

BTW, did anybody else think "Wez!" when Vince was hanging off the front of the truck?

By Lolar Windrunner on Sunday, February 10, 2002 - 6:36 pm:

apparently it was rather popular in dayton and cincinnati as i have seen a lot of civics and celicas jazzed up like in the film with the bright paint and spoilers and effects packages. Myself I thought it was ok but not enough to make me go out and get a car like in the film. i must not be in my midlife crisis yet then.

By cableface on Saturday, June 29, 2002 - 6:59 am:

I must say, this film sucked seven different varieties of testicle. Yes, Vin Diesel is the man, but he was way cooler in Pitch Black then here. Paul Walker is a plank, plain and simple, and all they did with for a plot was take Point Break and put wheels on it. And Point Break wasn't even that good to start with, but that's a different matter......
This film is pretty much for the fast car strokers out there. Me, as I said, I just think it stank.

By Brian Fitzgerald on Saturday, June 29, 2002 - 11:37 am:

cableface, this is not ain't-it-cool-news. Let's not let this degenerate into Beavis & Butthead style bash sessions where the only creativity is who can come up with the most graphic means of calling a film or filmmaker a homosexual.

By LUIGI NOVI on Saturday, June 29, 2002 - 6:21 pm:

This movie blowed.

By Adam on Saturday, June 29, 2002 - 7:38 pm:

Yeah, this movie was bad. So let me see if I understand this ending. Cop can take in carjacker who robs trucks at gun point so he can get people killed drag racing at night, but lets him go because said thug races him??? riiiiiiiiight. I know I'd sleep better if I knew this guy was on the police force protecting my city. >:o

By ScottN on Sunday, June 30, 2002 - 9:59 am:

I don't know if the movie was good or bad or not. But by definition the "More Music from the Fast and the Furious" Soundtrack Silver Disk Containing Audio Data™ (Note: it's not a CD. Phillips, which holds the CD trademark and patents, says it's not) is bad.

It's got access controls on it, designed to try to make it hard to rip or copy (both of which are rights under Fair Use).

OK. Sorry to put politics in here. I'm going now.

By Brian Fitzgerald on Saturday, July 27, 2002 - 8:17 pm:

Universal Pictures and Original Film Productions are working on a sequel to this movie. Vin Diesel wanted too much money so he will not be in it. The film will be about Officer Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker), who was kicked off the police force because of the events in part I, being recruited by the Miami police force to infiltrate a car racing ring that is a cover for a drug smuggling operation. Ja Rule will be the only other returning cast member; he only had a small role in the first film as Edwin, the street racer who would have gotten to have a 3-way if he had won the first quarter-mile race. Rappers Tyrese Gibson & DMX will co-star. Urban filmmaker John Singleton (Shaft 2000, Boy’s in the Hood ) will be replacing Rob Cohen as director. Singleton will probably want to bring a harder edge to this film, but will be limited by the producers’ insistence on a PG-13 rating. (personally I always thought that the first was a good action flick but if it had been rated R it would have been a great action flick) The real important question is will legendary stunt man Mic Rogers be returning to coordinate stunts and direct 2nd unit as he did on the first one?

Please be lying.

By LUIGI NOVI on Wednesday, August 21, 2002 - 1:21 am:

As of July 14th, the only information upcomingmovies.com has is that Paul Walker, Tyrese and Eva Mendes have signed on, but no one else from the first film has done so yet.

As for Vin Diesel, the only word is that he might be out IF the salary demands are too high.

Brian, have you heard anything that was announced after July 14th?

Personally, they should pay him whatever he wants. Some may think that the first movie attracted crowds because of the cars, and not the stars, which may be true, but the Vin Diesel genie is out of bottle now, and it'd be naive to ignore the fact that he is a hot star now because of the movie, and that not putting him in if they have the chance is like turning down millions in ticket sales.

By Influx on Wednesday, August 21, 2002 - 7:01 am:

Just rented this last week. It hit the spot perfectly for the type of movie I wanted to see that night. I was particularly taken with some of the directorial style -- the tunnel vision of that oh-so-long ten seconds, the cars approaching the gathering area looking like a fleet of spaceships, and more.

There were a couple things that took me out of the movie. Why did they get somebody who looks exactly like Rob Lowe as the star? Other bits were preposterous as well. But, like Speed, it fit the bill for its intended purpose.

The IMDB had a story the week XXX opened where Vin said that he turned it down not over money but because he was trying to schedule the XXX sequel and Pitch Black prequel and that one. He didn't have the time to squeeze all 3 into the timeframes that the films are to be made on so he had to get rid of one. http://www.johnsingletonfilms.com/ has some info on it, including that singleton will be directing it. Speaking of which they also said that Ja Rule will not be returning as origionaly thought.

they have several news bits from after july

August 19, 2002 - Principal photography is now scheduled to commence on September 30.
August 10, 2002 EXCLUSIVE SCOOP: The mystery of Ja Rule's mysterious dropping out of the project has been solved. Apparently, he didn't want to reprise the role of Edwin; instead, he wanted the role that is to be played by Tyrese. When he couldn't negotiate that, he opted out of the project entirely.
I obviously jumped the gun a few weeks ago, as Singleton is leaving for Miami today for final preparation and production.
August 6, 2002 - Eva Mendes has been cast as the main female co-star.

By LUIGI NOVI on Wednesday, August 21, 2002 - 9:51 pm:

Influx, what star looks like Rob Lowe? Neither Paul Walker nor Vin Diesel look a thing like him.

By Influx on Thursday, August 22, 2002 - 7:49 am:

Your opinion. Certainly not Vin Diesel, but the main cop guy (was that Paul Walker?) looks a lot like Lowe circa several years ago.

By Influx on Thursday, August 22, 2002 - 1:48 pm:

(edit) That came across a little jerkier than I intended it to.

By LUIGI NOVI on Thursday, August 22, 2002 - 9:53 pm:

Nah, don't sweat it. I think the thing that distinguishes them is that Paul Walker has lighter hair, but looking at photos of both of them, Influx, I think you may have something after all. There is a superficial resemblance. :)

By Influx on Friday, August 23, 2002 - 7:49 am:

Granted, but I'm the guy that also thinks that Disney's (version of) Tarzan looks just like Bob Saget. :)

By LUIGI NOVI on Friday, August 23, 2002 - 2:01 pm:

Okay, NOW you're on your own!

:)

Someone please explain to me how this moronic series became so popular?
