The 6th Day

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Science Fiction/Fantasy: The 6th Day

Possible nit: Arnold is shown watching an XFL football game on TV. How is that possible when that football league barely lasted one season and this movie is set in the future?

Possible anti-nit: Was this movie made before the real-life XFL came into existence? If so, maybe the initials the powers-that-be chose for their fictional football league is just a coincedence.

No it was a product placement for the XFL, the placement was setup while the league was being formed.

The girl who played the hologram was a friend of one of my best friends from college. She looks a lot taller on the screen than she does in real life.

this is something about the XFL being seen in 6th day, if you listen carefully, in the movie Demolition Man. Wesley Snipes' character says, "Jeffery Dalmer?..." the character says more but I don't remember it all. as I recall that man died in prison before the movie came out. (don't know the details.)
I've always thought it a little amusing when a movie mentions a name or a place which no longer exists by the time that movie comes out to theatres; for a little example, in ST The Voyage Home, who knew Lenongrad, Russia. (please forgive me if I've misspelled it.) would no longer exist by the time that movie came out, same with Dalmer, the XFL, I could problobly go on if I did a little research.

Anonymous, it's "Dahmer".

Also another incident of what you're describing with Leningrad is in The Royale(TNG), where Picard is messing with Fermat's (still unproven) Last Theorem. Of course, it has since been proven (and said proof mentioned in a DS9 ep, too).

Please do go on with your research, Anon, this sounds interesting. :)

Actually, I'm 99.7% sure Dahmer was still alive at the time Demolition Man came out.

And Leningrad was still Leningrad in 1986 when STIV came out. The name of that city was changed back to St. Petersburg in 1991, so maybe that gives the creators an excuse...

No Dahmer wasn't alive. He was killed just a couple of months before Demolition man came out. I think that they were going to cut that line out but for some reason they didn't.

By Kennedy Taylor on Sunday, July 28, 2002 - 11:12 pm:

Demolition Man was released in the U.S. on October 8, 1993. Dahmer was killed in a Wisconsin prison on November 28, 1994.

By 2286 (roughly when STIV's "Earth in peril" scenes take place), St. Petersburg could very well go back to being called Leningrad again. Doubtful, but possible.
