"The Adventures of Robin Hood" (w/ Errol Flynn)
"The Day the Earth Stood Still"
"Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers"
"Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"
"Without a Clue"
Ragtime, Milos Forman's superb film version of E.L. Doctorow's novel. Noteworthy perfs from Brad Dourif, Mandy Patinkin, and James Cagney, in his last big-screen role.
"The Adventures of Robin Hood" (w/ Errol Flynn) was filmed right here where I live! Our very own Bidwell Park was Sherwood Forest. Used to be a plaque there but it's long since been stolen.
Despite my protest, they probably will anyway.
"The Brady Bunch" Movies
"Car 54, Where are You?" (New version)
I think the world would be a better place if certain DVDs where taken off the shelf i.e. Battlefield Earth.
I didn't see it, but from the previews I believe Dana Carvey's "Master of Disguise" should be erased from our history. I'd rather have all my blood sucked out be leaches than see him go "Turtle, turtle, turtle" again.
REQUEST TO NITPICKERS:
If you hear about any of these movie requests coming to DVD, post 'em here.
Let me start by saying ONE OF MY WISHES CAME TRUE!
"Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers" is coming out Sep. 17!
I would love to see these flicks come out on DVD:
Destination Moon
When Worlds Collide
Marty
Colossus: The Forbin Project
Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun
Is "Battle Beyond the Stars" already on DVD?
Another three films I'd like to see on DVD fairly soon:
Star Wars (A New Hope)
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
(as opposed to The Phantom Menace and the forthcoming Attack of the Clones)
Sven: Yes it is. My dad has a copy. As for Star Wars, why all the Clones bashing? IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE! Granted it's not as good as Spider-Man and Insomnia (still the two best of 2002 in my opinion), but still! Ah man, now I'm all riled up. I hope my pre-orded copies of the new Peter Gabriel and Johnny Cash CDs get here soon.
I already told Adam Bomb about this so, this is for the benefit of others here at Nitcentral...
"When Worlds Collide" is already out on DVD.
The Marx Brothers movies, but that don't cost $50+ each.
I wasn't Clones-bashing - I was referring to the fact that TPM and AotC are confirmed as DVD releases - the first one out for some time now, the second one coming to the UK a WHOLE DAY before anywhere else.
Oh, kay. Well, that was quite emabarassing. Scuse me. *BLAM* *THUMP*
"Atlantis the Lost Continient" (1960)
Once Upon in the West. Another of Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Westerns. This one features Charles Bronson as "The Man With No Name". Henry Fonda plays the bad guy. I think it's as good as the famous Spaghetti Western trilogy that stars Clint Eastwood. It just isn't as famous.
YEEHAW!
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes - Sept. 23
Robin Hood w/ Errol Flynn - Sept. 30.
I DO NOT want to see Galatica:1980 on DVD!
I would like to see the ORIGINAL "Family Affair" on DVD though.
Merat- I hope you meant that you DID want "Without a Clue" coming out on DVD. I love that movie!
Also, Adam Bomb- you LIKED "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun?"
Out of honest curiosity, why?
DVD buyers everywhere, beware! "Gigli" comes to DVD in Dec.
Skeet shooters might be interested though!
Won't "Gigli" cause your DVD Player to ... explode?
Also, Adam Bomb- you LIKED "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun?"
Out of honest curiosity, why?
Well, Zarm, it's one of those undefinable qualities. Probably is as much a guilty pleasure as Josie and the Pussycats is. Roy Thinnes provides stiff, wooden acting, the FX are so-so, and the plot was previously done on Twilight Zone. I really liked Patrick Wymark's perf here, though. Lynn Loring, Thinnes' wife at the time, played his wife here, and they have one semi-heated argument. Also, nice music score by Barry Gray.
Two of the films I've wanted to see be put out on disc are now available. Paul Newman's 1994 film, Nobody's Fool has come out within the last two or three months. And just this week, Segio Leone's epic, Once Upon a Time In the West was released as a double disc set. I do indeed have both. I started watching OUATITW(which starred Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson, Jason Robard, Jack Elam and Claudia Caudinale). Both are excellent films, IMHO and I recommend both.
Schindler's List comes out Mar. 9, 2004.
Star Wars Trilogy-Special Edition DVD...SEPT. 21, 2004!
Now, will this be the bare bones edition -- "Extra features include: Menus! Subtitles! Chapter selection!" or 2 disc set with some extras? Of course, we know we will eventually see the Super-Platinum-Extra-Special edition just before Episode III comes out, right?
I personally will be (miffed) if they don't include both the original and "Special" edition on the same disc with the choice of watching either, and comparisons between the two. It is was DVD was made for!!
Lucas pretends that the original versions do not exist (heck, the original Star Wars has never been released on home video, only the re-release version has made it -- though the changes were extremely minor)... they will be the special editions, if we're lucky. If we're not lucky, then these will be Special Edition Reduxes.
"The Day After" on DVD...May 18.
In case anyone is interested, Season 1 of "The Flintstones" is out now on DVD.
Yabba dabba doooo!
Your post was moved as per request, Craig.
Tobor The Great (1953)
I NEVER want to see "The Brady Bunch" movies on DVD
OOPS! I said that already! DING!
I'd like to see all on DVD. One person's garbage is another person's treasure.
I want to see the Brady Bunch movies on DVD. :>
The Brady Bunch films are on DVD.
PULL! *BLAM!*
In other news today, a Greendale man was injured by flying shards of The Brady Brides just after 4pm today.
What unreleased movie would you like to see on DVD? (Any year)
The Long, Long Trailer.....(w/ Lucy & Desi)
Eyes Wide Shut.....(Director's cut)
Paradise Lost.....(w/ Marina Sirtis)
The Wicked Lady.....(w/ Marina Sirtis)
Airplane spoofs a film titled Zero Hour, which is still not available on DVD (or VHS, for that matter.) (Also spoofs Airport 1975, which is available.)
I would like to see Zero Hour just to find out how much it's like Airplane. There's another old 'Scare in the air' film which has been spoofed as well.
Several months ago one of the movie channels aired Airplane and Zero Hour back-to-back, with repeats. It is really hard to watch ZH with a straight face immediately after watching Airplane, especially since some of the dialogue was used verbatim.
Luigi, do you have Journey to the Far Side of the Sun? It has ol Ed Bishop in a bit part.
No, I'm afraid not, Anon. I own relatively few movies.
On the DVD commentry ZAZ mentions that they had to buy up the rights to Zero Hour because they had used so much of it.
Several months ago one of the movie channels aired "Airplane" and "Zero Hour" back-to-back..
I think it was Turner Classic Movies which did that. Hopefully, they'll do it again. Keep your eyes peeled, people. (Although I'll have to do that via the digital cable guide, as I've abandoned TV Guide.)
Warner Home Video unveils a Superman 14-Disc Collection
Not on mine but it might be on someone else's here.
Not on your what, Mark?
Never mind. I didn't see the title of the thread. (Annoyed grunt) (Hey, one beer, two shots of brandy. I deserve a break.
Maybe.)
Benn!, your back! Welcome back, Benn, Welcome back
Sung to Welcome Back Kotter
did you see your own board, Benn
I'm back? Dude, you haven't seen the M*A*S*H boards, have you? I've been back. Thanks for the welcome, though.
Two classic movies from 1976, All The President's Men and Network, get Warner's "Special Edition" double-disc treatment. President's Men is available now, while Network's S/E hits stores 2/28/06.
Anyone got Coma? It was a book in the 70s or so
can someone copy it for me?
I have Coma, but wouldn't it be illegal to make a copy? (A little inconvenience called "copyright laws" make doing that against the law.) You can buy it cheap here or here.
I'd like to see "Murder Can Hurt You" on DVD.
(Yeah, it was a TV movie, but a movie nonetheless)
A Boy Named Charlie Brown at Borders, $14.95 and Snoopy come Home. The orignal half hours are more expensive than the movies. Wa wa wa wa?
When I was in San Fran in 68, 69, they showed the movie at 25 cents each showing
One movie that will probably never be on DVD (at least as long as Bill Cosby is breathing) is his disastrous flop Leonard Part 6. Cosby bad-mouthed the film before its release in the late 80's. In addition, after its original video release and its initial runs on cable-TV, Cosby bought up the rights to this film, and promptly buried it, so it will never see the light of day again. More here. (I don't know if Cosby did the same for his other disastrous movie, Ghost Dad.)
I read a detailed review of that one, at the Agony Booth, I think (sorry, can't get the link from this work PC). That was plenty enough for me!
The movie was automatically doomed because of its title. People saw the ads for it and said "Well, there's no point in going to see that, I missed one through five."
Here's your link, Influx. "The Agony Booth" is where I first read about Cosby's buying back the rights to Leonard Part 6, a movie I had totally forgotten about. There have been rumors that Cosby had also bought the rights to The Little Rascals or Amos and Andy to bury them as well; those rumors are not true, as spelled out here.
Barbra Streisand's 1976 ego trip, the second remake of A Star Is Born, is set for DVD release 11/28/06. I'd rather stand in front of a tree and watch it petrify, than watch this film in any way, shape or form. More here, for those of you who are actually interested.
And, Leonard Part 6 is now on DVD. Guess the lure of potential DVD dollars was too much for the Cos.
Is it in a deluxe boxed set with Leonard Parts 1-5?
The 2006 official Eon production of Casino Royale will be released by Sony on 3/13/07. Since my girlfriend got me all 20 Bond films on DVD this past Christmas, I gotta get it for completeness, even though I haven't seen the movie.
nah, wait for some special edition of it with behind the scene features and audio commentary.
Wait for some special edition of it with behind the scene features and audio commentary...
Got it a month or so ago. Picture quality is first rate. But - There is no excuse for not having any commentary track on it, even though it's a two DVD set. Then again, I still have the bare-bones original issue DVD's of all the Trek films
One of my fave movies as a kid, Fantastic Voyage, gets the deluxe DVD treatment this June 5. Lost In Space famously ripped off this movie, in the episode where the Robot grows as big as a house, and Smith and Will take a tour of his innards. I'm sure that FV was ripped off a million other times as well, but my addled brain can't think of one. More info here.
The very good 1978 remake of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers gets the Special Edition treatment in August. More here. Since this remake, Snatchers has been remade twice; in 1993, and another remake, titled The Invasion, is scheduled to be released this year.
A film which I thought would be buried forever, 1980's Cruising gets the DVD treatment this September. This film created a lot of controversy during its production and release, due to its portrayal of New York's underground gay S&M subculture. More here.
I'd like to see: "The Spirit of St. Louis" w/ James Stewart on DVD
I'd like to see: "The Spirit of St. Louis" w/ James Stewart on DVD
Meaning you don't like either of the current releases?
John wrote: I'd like to see: "The Spirit of St. Louis" w/ James Stewart on DVD
Try this. It's been available since August 2006.
Thanks. I had no idea "The Spirit of St. Louis" w/ James Stewart was on DVD. Usually Hollywood is reluctant to release these "classic films" on DVD. It's nice to see that they're finally waking up and giving us what we want.
Now if only they'd release the rest of "Green Acres" on DVD...I'll be happy as a lark.
Or this: http://www.amazon.com/James-Stewart-Signature-Collection-Firecreek/dp/B000FTCLRQ/
Which is said to be a better transfer.
Not sure why you think Hollywood is reluctant to release classic films. This is a Warner Brothers film, and they've done the best job of releasing classic movies of any of the major studios. Very affordable box set with top notch transfers and often with a lot of extras.
I just seems like it took forever to get "The Long, Long Trailer" on DVD. (And that's only ONE of the movies I was waiting for)
BTW...I'm still waiting for "Atlantis-The Lost Continent" on DVD. How can they not release that classic film?
There are considerably more classic movies than there are new releases. New releases are movies released in the past year or so, so it isn't too hard to get them out quickly. Classic movies, on the other hand, go back well over 70 years. Obviously they can't issue them all on DVD in the same span of time they do with new releases.
And not only has Atlantis the Lost Continent been released on DVD, but it has gone out of print while you were waiting for it. I think you need to search Amazon from time to time to keep abreast of these releases. You can, at least, buy it used from Amazon Marketplace quite cheaply.
I think you need to search Amazon from time to time to keep abreast of these releases.
Or DVD Times. It's British (Region 2) site, but they do keep a watch for Region 1 releases.
Warners has just released Zero Hour, in a three-film set, along with Skyjacked and Hot Rods To Hell. More here.
Is that the Zero Hour that was remade as Airplane!? Surely you can't be serious!
I am serious. And don't call me Surely. See the posts from Dec. 17 and 18, 2005 above for more info. I was surprised to learn Arthur Hailey, who wrote the novel Airport, was the writer of Zero Hour.
The 1974 classic Chinatown gets the special edition DVD release on November 7, along with it's forever-in-development sequel, 1990's The Two Jakes. Chinatown is worth buying for the interplay between Faye Dunaway and Jack Nicholson, especially their classic "She's my sister! She's my daughter!" exchange. I haven't really seen The Two Jakes yet, so I'll reserve judgement. More here.
I thought this film was already on DVD, but I just found out it isn't - 1983's Twilight Zone - The Movie will be released on DVD on October 9. More here.
Yeah, I would have thought that would already have been out, seeing as all three series bearing the name Twilight Zone have all been released (the original one having no less than three seperate editions). There must have been some kind of licesnsing problems, plus the fact that, apart from the "Nightmare" remake segment, the film was an unmitigated disaster.
November 13, 2007 will bring us the "Ultimate Edition - 30th Anniversary" of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. Three versions of the film will be available - the 1977 theatrical edition (its home video debut), the 1980 "Special Edition" (when we saw the interior of the mothership) and the 1998 DVD "Director's Edition," where the most notable change to me was the elimination of the scenes of the mothership's interior. (Was I the only one who actually liked those scenes?) Maybe they should also include the fourth version - the ABC-TV cut, which ran about 2 hrs. and 25 mins., and put back everything. (ABC ran that version four or five times). More here.
I grew up as a fan of the Thunderbirds TV series by Gerry Anderson,so when I read that they were going to make a live-action movie I thought that was fantastic! The movie was terrible even though they had excellent visuals, sets,& so forth. What should have been a story about the Tracy family & their incredible Thunderbirds rescue vehicles was reduced to watching three kids run all around the island headquarters of International Rescue in order to elude the criminals. The producers totally "didn't get it" regarding the appeal of the show in the first place.I actually had a red flag warning when early on these nitwits stated that Gerry Anderson was not being brought on board as a producer, heck, they didn't even want him as a consultant to the film based on his creation.Talk about hubris! It was so disappointing a movie that unfortunately it may well doom future attempts to mount a good version of Thunderbirds ever again. And that's one of the problems when someone takes a cool premise & so mangles it that we may never even get a chance to see the premise done right.
Anyone has Quartermass and the Pits?
also, Ed Bishop played a doctor or someone in one of the Bonds movies?
Al Pacino's deadly dull 1977 porker Bobby Deerfield is coming to DVD on March 11, 2008. That's the second Pacino film that I thought was buried that's being released on DVD (the first was Cruising.) More here.
I vas gonna get galactica 1980, but someone bought all 5 sets, and the 6 or so sets of the Cylon guy with th e the Knight rider red eye
Galactica 78...at Borders!
beam me up, Scotty.
We'll probably NEVER see "Howard The Duck" on DVD. Lucas probably burnt that film to ashes and then burnt the ashes!
I don't see why not. It ran on Showtime or Starz or Encore, one of those cable channels last year. It has been released on tape. So it's not like it hasn't been in circulation. Heck, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that there's a cult following for the film. God only knows why, but cult movie fans have weird tastes. (I should know, some of my favorite films are cult movies.) Still, I expect Howard the Duck to be released on disc sooner or later. After all, Gigli, Heaven's Gate and Ishtar are available on DVD.
"I like to watch." - Chance the Gardener
Invasion Usa, not Chuck's a cold war movie.
2001 the uncut version.
3001 , Clarke's last book?
"No Time for Sergeants" with Andy Griffith, Myron McCormick, and Nick Adams. One of my favorite movies.
"Larceny, Inc" starring Edward G. Robinson, Jane Wyman, Jack Carter, Broderick Crawford and Anthony Quinn. It's a comedy, and a darn good one!
I know both are available through bootleg retailers, but I want official DVDs, darn it!
I don't know how well this pic did at the box office, but Sweeney Todd comes to DVD April 1, in both one- and two-disc editions. My girlfriend loved the play when it was on Broadway, eons ago, but we never got around to seeing the movie. As her birthday is not long after the DVD release date of Sweeney, I'm getting it for her. Even though she's not much of a fan of home video. Don't tell her. Please. More here.
Thanks to Carl at WouldYouBelieve.com, I learned that the 1980 movie The Nude Bomb will be released on DVD June 17, 2008. Carl told me that Don Adams hated the flick. I was a bit disappointed with it on its release, but it's really not that bad. Betcha it's better than the upcoming Get Smart movie, the release of which (on June 20) no doubt prompted Universal to release the only theatrical film with the real Max. The Nude Bomb has played on HBO and Cinemax lately, under the title The Return of Maxwell Smart. More here.
A (long delayed) special edition of Mrs. Doubtfire is being released today. I enjoyed this flick when I first saw it on HBO, but my opinion of this flick has changed with my life experiences since then. I thought that the divorce trial judge was way too hard on Robin Williams' Daniel, who obviously loved and wanted to be with his kids, and much too easy on his spiteful ex-wife (Sally Field), who was more concerned with her next business deal than she was with her kids. See it for yourself whether or not you agree with me. More here.
Go ahead, make my day. Do you feel lucky? You should. Warner's is releasing a special collector's edition of all five Dirty Harry flicks on June 3. The Dead Pool was OK, but the rest were great. More here.
Iron Man
Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Sex & the City
No, no, I don't think Iron Man did well enough in the box office to warrant a DVD release. I think they are planning on burning any remaining film from that movie as an alternative fuel source. ...
Child's Play will be re-released in a special 20th anniversary edition on Sept. 9, 2008. More here.
The first Child's Play was probably the only good one. I missed most of the sequels, but did see Seed Of Chucky on HBO. It was totally ridiculous. Maybe that was the point...
I enjoyed both Bride and Seed of Chucky. Both were intentionally silly.
Universal is re-releasing three classic Alfred Hitchcock thrillers (Psycho, Vertigo and Rear Window) today in special two-disc editions, as part of their "Legacy" series. More here. Guess it's off to the video store for me.
Anyone know when 12 0 clock high the series is coming to a store near you?
Anyone know when "12 0'Clock High" the series is coming to a store near you?
That's a question that should be on the "TV Shows We Want/Don't Want ON DVD" page. Secondly, try "TV Shows On DVD.com". Dave and Gord are on top of everything to do TV on DVD. If they don't know, no one does.
anyone remember The screaming skull? I saw this as a 6 year old kid...
sorry adam.
"The Screaming Skull" became an episode of MST3K.
what is mst3k?
Mystery Science Theatre 3000.
Go to the top level message board and look for it.
Howard the Duck is coming to DVD on 3/10/09.
Can the "Star Wars Holiday Special" be far behind? *
(*= Rhetorical question)
Howard the Duck is coming to DVD on 3/10/09.
I'm not sure how I'll be able to restrain my enthusiasm.
Paremount is issuing the classic Chinatown for the third time on October 6, 2009, as part of it's "Centennial Collection." I wonder how many more films will be re-issued under that banner, and how many people will buy again stuff they've already bought. (Not me. I still have my plain vanilla editions of Star Trek movies II through Nemesis, and the second DVD edition of Chinatown.) More on Chinatown here.
Something I won't be buying, even though I recently bought a Blu-Ray player: Fantasia is coming to Blu-Ray in a set with Fantasia 2000 on 11/30/10. I bought the VHS of Fantasia back in 1990; 20 years later I still have yet to get through the entire movie. I'll probably get some heat for this, but IMHO, Fantasia was a tedious, indulgent bore. More here.
No heat from me. I've never sat through any feature-length Disney cartoon in its entirety.
To each his own. I liked it. But I can see how someone might not.
I liked Fantasia 2 much better than the original Fantasia. Plus, it reruns the one good segment from the original - "The Sorcerer's Apprentice"
Wall Street - Money Never Sleeps, the sequel to the great 1987 original, will come to DVD/Blu-Ray on 12/21/10. A mere three months after its theatrical premiere. Either it didn't do too well at the box office, or it's coming out quickly to raise its Oscar profile. More here.
Also, The Social Network is coming to DVD and Blu-Ray on January 11. The film is considered to be in the running for numerous Oscar nominations, and this will definitely raise its profile. More here.
The Ten Commandments is coming to Blu-Ray for its 55th anniversary on 3/29/11. A concurrent DVD re-release is set as well. More info here.
Where were you in '62? (Most of you probably weren't born yet; I was seven, almost eight, years old.) What I think is George Lucas' best movie, American Graffiti, is coming to DVD and Blu-Ray on 5/31/11. More here.
I was negative 10.
I was busy being born.
Where was I in '62?
Not born yet.
The entire five-film Superman saga will be released on a "super" eight-disc Blu-Ray set on June 7, 2011. It includes the theatrical and extended cuts of Superman-The Movie, the theatrical and Donner cuts of Superman II, and commentary tracks on the first four films. List price is $130. Not too bad, considering the huge content. Which you can read in detail here.
Say hello to my litle friend! The over-the-top violence and language of 1983's Scarface comes to Blu-Ray on 9/6/11. With lots of extras, including a comparison between the theatrical and TV versions of the film, and the Howard Hawks-directed 1932 original. More here.
The 1973 musical remake of Lost Horizon, long a favorite whipping post for movie critics, became available through Amazon's MOD program this past October 6. If you read the IMDB message boards for the film, you'd think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I guess everything has its admirers. (I remember in April 1973, the film was released as a major roadshow attraction, with reserved seat ticketing. Eighteen or so months later, it premiered on TV.) If you want to order it, you can do so from here.
It's irrelevant for me, as I have tham all on DVD, and I'm not upgrading, but - come late 2012, all 22 James Bond movies will be issued on Blu-Ray, in one massive set, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Bond flick. Also, the set has an empty slot for the upcoming Skyfall. More here.
The American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was released last month, on both DVD and Blu-Ray. You can compare the features on the discs here. It seems that the people who buy just the DVD are getting the shaft in features; the good stuff is held over for the Blu-Ray. That goes for most movies these days, not just this one.
