An acting tour de force by Edward Norton highlights this thoughtful film by Spike Lee. Norton plays Montgomery, whose last day of freedom before going to prison for seven years on drug charges the film portrays. Great New York locations, and a superb supporting cast (Rosario Dawson as Montgomery's girlfriend, Brian Cox as his dad, and Barry Pepper and Philip Seymour Hoffman as his best friends) make this film eminently worthwhile. Also of note is the music score by Terence Blanchard.
I like how Monty ends the movie as a reflection of how his dog began it.
I loved knowing that the "eff you" speech was probably making everyone who would ever watch it squirm as much as it was making me squirm.
Finally, Norton is my kinda sexy.
Made me squirm a bit, too. I know people like that (no names, please.)
Rosario Dawson is my kinda sexy.
There's one scene, where Barry Pepper is holding a beer bottle. Next shot, the bottle's on the table, without us seeing him put it back down.
Close to the end of the pic, Monty is in a bar drinking with his dad. The shot glasses are fuller when the guys are drinking then when they were filled by the bartender.
Monty has a great line in a toast here. "Champagne for my real friends, and real pain for my sham friends."
