A retrospective of the career of Robert Evans, narrated by Evans himself, based on the book of the same name. It covers his period as a Paramount Pictures executive (where he supervised such hits as Love Story and The Godfather.) It also deals with his subsequent career as an independent producer of hits (Marathon Man, Chinatown), and misses (The Cotton Club). Mr. Evans also discusses his marriage to Ali McGraw (but I don't remember him mentioning his brief marriage to Catherine Oxenberg) and his problems with and arrest for cocaine.
One of the best parts of the movie occurs at the very end, during the credit roll. You see Dustin Hoffman, wearing big eyeglasses, doing an outrageously funny and absolutely dead-on impression of Evans. Hoffman perfectly lampoons Evans warp-speed style of speaking. If I may say so, Hoffman does Evans better than Evans does himself.
Evans is the main subject, and provides his own voice, in the totally gonzo animated series Kid Notorious. It contains hilarious one-liners totally unsuitable for quoting here.
Some of Evans' commentary from this documentary was recycled in the fourth DVD of The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration set.
Make him an offer he can't refuse.
