J.M. Barrie’s Neveland Miramax’s new film about the story of the life of J.M. Barrie, the struggling playwright who authored the play Peter Pan, and how his relationship with four young fatherless boys affected their lives and his. It is currently scheduled to come out in the spring of 2004.

I saw it on May 8th, and I think it was okay, but nothing that blew me away. Nothing very original in its theme, pretty cliched and predictable, Dustin Hoffman was underused, and I actually had to keep from falling asleep during a portion of it. I also found the relationship between Mary (Radha Mitchell) and James somewhat confusing at first. Given how they walk into separate bedrooms in the beginning of the film, I wasn’t sure at first if they were married, or brother and sister. Also, Mary seems jealous of Sylvia from the very start, so why does she invite her and her kids to dinner? Even as she does so, she seems to have a sour expression on her face.

At best, it could be arguably deserving of some of the technical awards, like art direction or costume design.

It was okay, but not of Oscar-level caliber storywise. That's just me.
