Nit at the end.

After the dogfight of Ice & Maverick vs. the MiGs, someone reports that "the remaining MiGs are breaking off".

Unfortunately, there were five MiGs, and four of them were splashed, so it should have been "the remaining MiG is breaking off."

NANJAO: At the final mission briefing, Stinger mentions that the MiGs are carrying Exocet missles. Of course all of us are familiar with the AM-39, but it might have heightened the tension just a bit if he had added "just like the one that sank HMS Sheffield four years ago".

During the final battle, five MiGs engage Hollywood and Iceman. Hollywood is shot down, and the MiGs turn their attention to Iceman, while Maverick races to the rescue. Issues:
1) Maverick is the only one who can help, because all the catapults back on the carrier are broken. The carrier didn't come under attack; its catapults just (read the script and) spontaneously stopped working.
2) And apparently this carrier battle group does not have any planes on routine CAP that could help out. Aren't carrier groups always supposed to have planes on CAP while at sea?
3) Instead of leaving two MiGs to harass Iceman and sending the rest off on their actual, you know, mission of launching anti-ship missles (with Iceman in no position to interfere), the bad guys very courteously keep all their planes in one place so Maverick can deal with the threats to both Iceman and the disabled ship by himself.
4) As Maverick gets out of his plane, the helicopter that rescued Hollywood lands. So a helicopter flew out to the combat zone, conducted a rescue, and came back in about the same time it took for Maverick's F-14 to fly out, fight, and come back? Was Maverick just kidding when he said he was going supersonic?

Follow-up to my July 4 2003 post. Just rewatched this last night. They did declare 5 MiGs, splashed four, and in fact *two* did break off.

Anti-Nit. Another MiG that we didn't hear about showed up (or wasn't seen on radar).

Saw Top Gun: Maverick.

Good movie, very much in the spirit of the original, with a HUGE nod to Star Wars.

I imagine most people that go to see Maverick will be people our age, 50 or over.

Those that were actually alive when the first movie came out, IMO.

Top Gun 3 is going to be made
I read about it online earlier today

No it’s not. At least nothing is official. It’s just a rumour.

You didn't really think that Winters would take the time to verify his claim.

Such matters are beyond his abilities.
