Brilliant film. George C. Scott is at his best. Karl Malden is also very good as Omar Bradley.
My great-uncle, the late Willam J. Lang Jr., a reporter for LIFE Magazine, followed the campaign of Patton in WWII along with the late Bill Maudlin.
One thing about this film my wife mentioned was that at times malden as bradley seems to be either sucking up or a bit too admiringly gazing at Patton. Whats funny is that since Bradley was a technical adviser to the film it probably wasn't as intentional as she was reading into it.
NIT: Patton was suspended after slapping a second enlisted officer. The movie has him dismissed after slapping only one.
The first slapping encounter was dismissed by Ike as an "Isolated incident"
George C. Scott famously refused his Best Actor Oscar in 1971 for playing Gen. Patton, and he went to his grave never taking home his award. But, Scott returned to the role in the 1986 TV movie The Last Days Of Patton.
