American Wedding

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Comedy: American Wedding

When I first American Pie, I thought it was overrated. There was nothing original about either the "high schoolers-vow-to-lose-virginity" concept, or the trite execution, which had been done before, and began a genre tradition of obsession with bodily fluids and waste products. The {Porky's movies had done it all before, and FAR raunchier, even featuring full frontal male nudity at times.

But by now, I was curious to see American Wedding, more because I had grown somewhat attached to the goofy, somewhat pathetic, but loveable characters, and wanted to see how what is ostensibly the final installment of the series would turn out.

Not bad.

I didn't see the whole thing, since my friend and I were killing time before going into Pirates of the Carribean, but I saw all but the last 30 or40 minutes. The situtations were funny, in particular the proposition in the restaurant in the beginning, and the bit where Michelle's parents come home in the middle of a party thrown by the guys, recently-wed-in-real-life Alyson Hannigan looked beautiful, and even Stifler, acting as scummy as ever, tried to redeem himself.

NITS & NOTES:
In the restaurant scene in the beginning of the movie when Jim proposes to Michelle, he mentions they've been together for three years. But when he meets her parents, he says, "Mr. and Mrs. Flaherty, I presume." What, they've been going out for three years, and she never introduced him to her parents?

God, Playboy Playmate Nikki Schieler Ziering (wife of Beverly Hills 90210's Ian Ziering, who played Officer Krystal) looked incredible. After the more tame American Pie2, I was surprised that she and Amanda Swisten (who played Fraulein Brandi) actually had near-nude scenes. I was partial to Nikki Ziering, and my friend Chris said he preferred Amanda Swisten. Which one did YOU prefer?

Did anyone see the 2012 film
"American Reunion" or any of the direct to DVD American Pie spinoff films..?
