1. Hedwig is from east Berlin (as in before the wall came down). His name, Americanized, is "Hedvig." YET, auf Deutsche, "ig" is pronounced "isch."
2. The diner, where a fight breaks out. The band joins the ruckus, and Hedwig continues singing...the instruments keep playing!!
3. In a flashback, Hedwig & his mother speak..in Russian. (I think..it was Slavic. It sure as hell wasn't German)
I love the movie, though.
I think the diner scene you mentioned is supposed to be a more surreal than literal, thus I wouldn't consider that a true nit.
And you're right, the movie is great!
I expect Constanze or Electron to back me up on the "ig" thing.
In this case the -ig can be something like an -ik (hard) or an -ich (soft).
Ah.
Question: Rammstein and Megaherz pronounce it soft, but the German teachers I know pronounce it with a hard sound. Is it a regional thing?
Is it a regional thing?
Yes.
Apparently, "Angry Inch" was performed by one of my new favorite bands, Type O Negative.
