Oh. My. God.

Fax machine. Baseball bat.

Cubicles. "Dilbert" world.

There's a board for this in Comedies as I recall. You just have to look for it. In fact, i think I may have ben the one who started it, but I could be wrong.

By Hannah F., West Wing Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 - 12:51 am:

Meh. I don't see it.

By CR on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 - 7:39 am:

Neither do I, but I thought there used to be one somewhere... Oh, well.
A friend highly reccommended this film to me, and although I enjoyed it (and noticed several things that really happen where I work, plus I used to have a neighbor like the main character's), I didn't understand why he thought it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen. During the week that followed, I noticed more things at work that were also in the film, and the more I thought about it, the funnier the movie seemed. I told someone else about the film, and we watched it. My second time, it was even more funny, and I understood what my friend had meant. ("Told ya so," he said. "It grows on you.") The person I saw it with didn't underastand why I thought the film was so funny, but a week or so later, told me that she, too, enjoyed it and wanted to see it again.
In recent times, it's downright scary how much my current workplace is like the company in the film. (Oh, this movie also totally nails what it's like to work in a food service job, too!)

In the scene where Peter is frantically trying to get his computer shut down before the boss comes and tells him to work Saturday (oh, and come in on Sunday, too), the GUI shown is for a Mac. But when he finally exits the GUI, it drops to a C> prompt, which is PC.

By Snick on Tuesday, November 11, 2003 - 9:15 am:

Peter must be a total techie-geek and have emulators of different operating systems. :-)

By Hannah F., West Wing Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 - 1:03 am:

Who cares? Peter's cute.

(Nice catch, Scott)

By Peter on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 - 2:29 pm:

Glad to know someone thinks so.

Peter.

I thought it was funny but only for about a hour. I can't decide if it's because:

(a). You can only put up with this sort of thing too long before it just becomes depressingly realistic.
(b). The movie becomes less funny.

I think it's "b" because I was disappointed with the whole "let's rip off the company" plot. I thought it was going to be a really subversive black comedy for a while with the Bobs loving Peter because he's a noncomformist, and I wanted to see Peter perhaps rise through the ranks, but then I predicted the entire rest of the film. I think the film sort of pulled its punch at the end.

That said, the movie is gold for its first half. Ron Livingston is marvelous, and arguably this is Jennifer Aniston's best acting job. At the very least, she's never been more likeable.

ScottN, that was an intentional gag about the computer baing a mix of PC and Mac interfaces. It was to make the world they live in generic and universal. They also had licence plates that said USA rather than any state.

By CR on Monday, May 17, 2004 - 7:02 pm:

I never caught the license plate thing. LOL!

By Joel Croteau (Jcroteau) on Thursday, May 27, 2004 - 6:53 pm:

How'd you get that username, Hannah? I thought we just got them based on our names.

By Hannah F., West Wing Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Thursday, June 17, 2004 - 8:21 pm:

Fitz, I'm pretty sure I caught a few Cali plates...

Joel: I asked Phil.

By Brian Fitzgerald on Friday, June 18, 2004 - 11:07 am:

Probably cars in the background had Cali plates because that's where they filmed but on the picture cars that you were supposed to see the plates on they had the USA plates.

Going back to CC's original post.

It was a laser printer, not a fax machine. In fact, I believe it was an HP LaserJet II. The diagnostic "PC LOAD LETTER" originated with the LaserJet series.

The funniest (and most tasteless) part was when Peter gets stuck in traffic, and the old man on the sidewalk with the walker is moving faster than the cars are. It's tasteless to me, as my dad needs a walker to get around. It's funny because I love tasteless humor.
The two hatchet men, "the Bobs", played by John McGinley amd the guy who played Phil (?) on Cheers (can't remember his name) reminded me of the traveling hatchet man George Clooney played (albeit more seriously) in the 2009 pic Up In The Air.
