Quite a bad movie. I recently found out that the Phantom was originally going to be played by Bruce Campbell. They should have stayed with him. Hes a ham, but the role called for it. It probably would have wound up being another cult movie, in fact. :)

Merat: I disagree. I thouhgt it was fun little moive, nothing great or award worthy, but just plain dumb fun. Kinda like those old action serials from the 40s (some of which you can find on DVD now BTW), like the ones based on Captain America*.

*Sidenote, why exactly did the makers of said serial decide that Cap should have a gun instead of a shield?

As a $tupid actionish cartoony movie it was OK. I've seen worse. (And paid for the "priveledge":))

Ohhhhh..... When Captain America throws his mighty shield.... All those who oppose his shield will yield!

Oh lord....

Spotted a gun nit in this one. One of Drax's henchmen is carrying a Walther P38, which didn't go into production until the end of the 1930s, at least a couple of years after this movie is apparently set.

Another potential nit involves the scene where the Phantom is the cab trying to catch up with Drax's convoy. The cabbie tells him he picked up that they've gone to the seaplane port by listening in to police broadcasts on his radio. From what I can tell cabs in 1930s New York didn't use radios for dispatching, instead using phone call boxes.

I think this movie is set in 1938 (Kit says it's been six years since he saw Diana, and his father's memorial/grave lists his death has having been in 1932). The P38 was adopted by the Wehrmacht in 1938 (so prototypes existed) but didn't go into military production until 1939. I certainly can't think of any reason why an American would have had one before the war.

One year post anniversary- strangely enough, I think Captain America's got more discussion on this board than the Phantom does... :-)

Continuing the once-a-year-posting...:-)

I liked this movie, and went into it with little knowledge of the character. It even made me curious enough to search the web for the comic's history and artwork.
