There are two things about this comedy/mystery that I really don't get. One, why do so many poeple seem to hate it when it's actually kinda fun (not great, just fun, kinda like The Phantom or M:I-2), and two, out of all the alternate endings the moive had (which are all availbale on the DVD BTW), how come only one of them was ever shown on TV?
What good are the clues if you have three alternate endings. As a comedy it is OK. As a whodunit it is too lame.
Hey, if that's how you're going to feel about it... then I'm going home -- to sleep with my wife!!!
I loved this movie. It was hilarious. As for the endings, Brian, they always show all three of them when I see it on TV.
There one area where the film cheats, though. I actually taped this movie once to confirm what I thought I saw, and cofirmed that during one of the endings, when Wadsworth is reminding everyone where each of them were when they had all split up, he referred to one character (I think Mrs. White) as being in room during the flashback, when in fact she was clearly depicted during the original run-through of that scene as being somewhere completely different.
I apologize that I can't remember it more specificly, but if you watch the film carefully or tape, I think you'll find it.
BTW, the only ending that really makes sense to me is the first. The third is arguably the funniest ending, but makes absolutely no sense when you consider that people would run into each other at some point. The second doesn't even try to make sense (Mrs. Peacock is in the freakin' basement for most of the film) and is actually not funny.
Spoiler Space. Last Day Line. Lalalalala.
The only problem I have with the first ending has to do with the scene where Mustard leaves Scarlett to check out what's behind the window curtain. When she's slowly inching her way to find that it's only the wind, she seems legitimately nervous. Now, if she's the mastermind killer, why's she scared? Is she faking it just in case someone's spying from a secret passage?
