I always like how they review the movies.

a different christian approach for all those moderate, normal christians among the bible-thumping fundamentalists out there.

(And no, I'm not a methodist, but a lutheran protestant, but I like the refreshing attitude of the ship of fools website very much.)

BrianA: "Hmm. While I do not think this is much of a topic, especially since the topic starter really has nothing to say about the subject, that reply was quite uncalled for. The horrid grammar and spelling are bad enough, but to also insult Christians in such a way is quite rude."

Luigi Novi: While anoncensorshipfan's language was pejorative, it was directed at the authors of that site, not "Christians."

One comment on christiananswers.net I found interesting was about the remake of "The Thomas Crown Affair." It was from a 16 yr. old boy who stated the nudity was "awful, full frontal" and "gross." Also: "I was appalled and stared at my friend in wonder as we tried to decide when it would be over." (apparently referring to the full frontal nudity) Repeat, this is from a 16 year old boy. I think the apocalypse is at hand...

On another note, I recently saw "Freddy vs. Jason," so I looked up comments on this. One 19-year-old reported that "the whole movie was about killing," "the whole occult theme scares me" and he cried in his car for everyone that had to watch the film. What the heck did he expect from a movie titled "Freddy vs. Jason?" A chess match? One-on-one basketball? However, it was very courageous for him to suffer through this film so he could helpfully warn others about it who might have mistakenly believed that it was a pro-Christian film. Even more courage was shown by those willing to endure many, many scenes of frontal nudity on a huge screen. I can only imagine the horror... Personally, I thought F vs. J was not great art, but OK for a slasher film.

To be honest, I didn't think it was even okay for a slasher film. Very mediocre all around.

My favorite Christian movie reviewers

They mark down each time for:
Blasphemy
Swearing
"Act of violence"
Anything remotely sexual
etc

Imagine then read the reviews for South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut and Sin City. :O

I feel obligated to point out that some of their reviews are good, but sometimes I have to wonder.

I read the Ship of Fools column on the Passion. It was rather interesting to say the least. The one nit is that they say the movie is in Latin when actually it's in Latin and Aramaic. As far as it goes and even though I didn't agree with all of the findings on it,I think you could get just as much out of watching the series on the Life of Christ that aired on the National Geographic Channel.
As far as Christian reviews go in general,I think it needs to be remembered that not all of us who are Christian think alike on the same issues and so just because someone says they are reviewing a movie or a tv series from a Christian perspective doesn't mean they speak for the rest of us who are Christian.

I scared some people in a computer lab in school once when I read the CAP review of Planet of the Apes and couldn't stop laughing. My friend and I still crack ourselves up by decrying "narcotics use...by apes."

Did anyone notice the link that they had at Ship of Fools to Crosswalk? It's the Christian website that thinks anime shows like Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z are Satanic.Crosswalk that is.Ok,they don't really go out and say Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z are Satanic but if you really read what they say about them that's the impression you get.
Ok,that was a bit off topic but the link was part of an article on SOF that detailed how some Fundies are a bit hypocritical when it comes to sex and violence. This was in the context of Mel Gibson's Passion. The reference to Crosswalk was how they consider Looney Tunes BAD because of all the "violence" but praised The Passion, even though it's far more violent than any cartoon featuring Bugs Bunny.
One of these days I will have to explain my own personal philosophy when it comes to movies, etc.

By Brian FitzGerald on Sunday, January 01, 2006 - 1:01 pm:

I find it funny that on the CAP alert page the mission statement says that they make no allowences for "Hollywood's trumped up message moveis" as an excuse for sex and violence but than spent the entire review of "The Passion" talking about how the violence was justified in the context of the story.

Dragonball Z is satanic because Goku as i've heard gets resurected multiply time. Only Jesus was able to do that and the fact that Goku in the end of the I think it is called GT season he ends up with everlasting life

The problem with nitpicking religion or politics is that everyone has their own agenda and will go out of their way to evangelize/seduce others to their point of view and when faced with a contrasting views based on equally valid data, they take it as a personal insult. Whether it is or not is a matter of perception and whether the nitpicker is secure in their own ego or not.
Fictional shows are not inherently 'Evil' although most plots are undeniably questionable. I watched one show recently which was very well done until I saw an interview which indicated it was intended as political commentary on some subject. I then realized how poorly done the production actually was. Just because something is incredibly silly and/or juvenile because of conspiracy theory behind the scenes to indoctrinate the viewer into a certain point-of-view. This is why I detest the news which tries to pass itself as fact when all it does is pay talking heads who can't get enough of their own voices to recite opinions which are only partially based on a certain interpretation of facts. There was a great one-liner I heard this past week which states 'there is no truth in the news and no news in the truth'. Bashing or endorsing a particular website only means you have made a decision to be biased against a differing point of view because of another's influence. Only a fool is unwilling to learn. Many, like those in the entertainment industry, merely are corrupted because of their lack of education and are led to believe that their livelihood depends on maitaining/espousing a certain dogma. I have certain religious beliefs and I find myself agreeing only about half the time even with ministries my church endorses. This makes for some interesting exchanges of ideas with a minister in my family. We both know we will never win each other over but I still love her and it has given me some things to think about and especially educated me on some subjects where I was lacking. Unless you are dealing with a website specifically endorsed and produced by a certain entity or its approved trustees, you should treat it as opinion or even tongue-in-cheek/absurd humor. This is why even commercial websites have a disclaimer that not all content is endorsed by those who maintain the site and they are not responsible for the contents of outside providers. Much like the content of this site. I'm sure Phil Farrand has not read and endorsed every post/topic presented here.
