Comes out July 9.
Well, I thought it was hilarious. There were some weird parts, some stupid parts, but there were many many laugh out loud moments. Especially with Steve Carrell's character. And I have seen some of the most random things I've ever seen in this film. Pleasure Land, the dog's scene at the zoo, even the outtakes (and there are outtakes during the credits) have got the completely random element.
Good enough to see again.
Ferrell's Ron Burgandy is everywhere. He's on the new TV Guide. He was even shown on the Today show, holding up a copy of the New York Post that erroneously claimed that Dick Gephardt would be John Kerry's running mate. (By the way, if you have a copy of that paper, DON'T throw it out! It was fetching up to $42 yesterday on e-bay. It'll probably fetch even more in the days and weeks to come.)
Looks like a funny movie, though.
The NYPost will probably not be as famous as the Chicago Daily Trib's "Dewey Defeats Truman", but will definitely get its 15 minutes, and if Kerry wins, will probably be fairly valuable.
Good film. I liked it better than "Dodgeball," primarily because I felt Will Ferrell is a lot more entertaining actor than Vince Vaughn. It also took in some entertaining satire of the local news. The supporting cast was excellent--Christina Applegate had a thankless role but did it well, and Ferrell's news team had a lot of laughs. Steve Carell was hilarious, even though it was a very easy character to play. The cameoes were basically restricted to one scene, which worked perfectly.
I agree that it was random, adding to the scenes you mentioned, the flute-playing, the talking to the camera at times, and the summoning of the news team. I ruptured a gut at the battle royale scene and the scene where the dog talks to the bears. I also enjoyed the outtakes and may have been the only person in the theater to get the "Smokey and the Bandit II" reference.
.I didn't like this film. I thought it was dumb. Maybe, the opening narration created the expectation of a more serious and less silly film. I thought the retarded weatherman was lame. I don't buy someone with an IQ of 45 being able to function in that environment. Things became too way over the top silly with the "fight" between the weather teams. I like it when a film at least tries to maintain some sense of reality. I also had a problem with Will Ferrell. I thought he was repulsive.
...and that dog coming back at the end. Shouldn't he have been killed by the fall off the bridge. Those graphics on the "News" (except for the weatherboard) looked more nineties than 70s.
No offence (since none of the things you've mentioned are exactly wrong), But I dare say you put a LOT more thought into this movie than it's designed for (I mean, this IS Will Ferrell we're talking about.)
I agree that there are some serious flaws in the film, but most of Burgandy's one liners are priceless, especially the alternate takes of his oddly-literate exclamations of suprise. ("Oden's black raven!")

Someone obviously didn't bother watching the deleted scenes... Someone caught the dog.
Talledaga Nights - The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is now playing on Starz. It's pretty much the same movie as Anchorman; just substitute NASCAR for the local news.
A sequel to Anchorman is in the works, for a 2013 release. It will reunite most of the principal cast of the original. More here.
Since Steve Carell will be involved, maybe this will keep him from making the proposed sequel to Get Smart. One can only hope.
