Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Comedy: Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle

If you are easily offended, or if you just don't like gross, juvenile and politically incorrect humor, then stay away from this flick. Me, I was almost on the floor laughing hysterically at many parts of Harold And Kumar. Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) are two young men who just want to hang and get stoned. While doing just that, they see a White Castle commercial on TV, and set out on the quest for the perfect hamburger. Rated "R" for almost every reason under the sun - nudity, sex situations, drug use, strong language, extremely crude humor, and (comic) violence.

Nits:
Harold's eyeglasses come off in one shot while he's riding in the car, but he wasn't seen removing them.
I won't even touch on what can happen while driving stoned.
When Harold and Kumar arrive at a gas station, the station has self-service pumps. The movie takes place in New Jersey, where self-service is illegal. There is also a car that is supposed to be a New Jersey State Trooper car, but it doesn't have the correct NJ State Trooper markings. (The film was shot in Canada.)

There were a bunch of things that tipped me off to where the movie was filmed (Toronto). For one, the gas station has a Country Style donuts location. As far as I know, that chain doesn't exist outside Ontario. Second, at one point Harold and Kumar are not far from a big mall which clearly has a Shopper's Drug Mart location, along with a Chapters.

While not socially responsable that doesn't make it a nit. People drive stoned all of the time and most of them don't crash or anything like that.

The beginning of the film takes place in Hoboken, and it was cool to see some actual shots of what indeed appeared to be White Castle. But why, when they get the munchies for White Castle, do they go all the way to New Brunswick???? The closest White Castle to Hoboken that I know of is the one in North Bergen on Kennedy Boulevard, around 37 - 39th street, and the East side of the street. In fact, why not go on the Net to find the closest ones. A search I just did shows there's a second one on Kennedy Boulevard in North Bergen, at 92nd Street, and another in Jersey City, which borders Hoboken!

At the end of the film, Harold orders 30 sliders, five french fries, and three large Cherry Cokes. Kumar orders the same, but says to make his Diet Cokes. That's six sodas. But in the shot of their feast being placed on their table, there's more than six sodas.

Maybe they got more sodas?

I kinda figured they were too stoned and (in Kumar's case anyway) too obsessed with finding White Castle to actually think all that clearly throughout most of the movie, much less think about using Google or Onstar to find the nearest White Castle. Besides, IIRC, Kumar was taking them to the one White Castle he thought he knew where it was. The one Anthony Anderson's character worked at. Then Anderson's character told them about the other White Castle they spent the film looking for.

They could've gotten more sodas at the end of their feast, but the shot of them first putting it down on their table shows more than six.

I'm reaching here, I admit, but maybe they added more sodas to the order before they sat down?
