Elektra

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: Superheroes: Elektra
By MarkN on Thursday, December 16, 2004 - 12:42 am:

I'm not sure if she's really a superheroine or not (anti-hero?), or if I should've put this in Sci-Fi/Fantasy but I wanted to give it a thread here in case it already hasn't got one elsewhere. And besides, I thought y'all might wanna check out the new pix from it on UGO.com. Or at least the guys would. ;)

By LUIGI NOVI on Thursday, December 16, 2004 - 10:24 am:

Well, it's a spinoff of Daredevil, which is here in Superheroes, so why not?

By The Male Demographic, 18 to Dead on Thursday, December 16, 2004 - 10:46 am:

Ms. Garner can spin me off anytime!

By Matt Pesti on Wednesday, January 05, 2005 - 9:45 pm:

I'd ask, isn't she dead?, but death in comic books is only permanant for Uncle Ben and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne.

By Benn on Wednesday, January 05, 2005 - 11:50 pm:

And Bucky Barnes. Don't forget Bucky. The only superhero to stay dead. (So far. It's been what, 60 years now? 40 at least.)

By LUIGI NOVI on Thursday, January 06, 2005 - 7:44 am:

The original Captain Mar-Vell is still dead. So are lots of other characters.

As for Electra, she's been resurrected in a graphic novel or two. She even had her own ongoing series for a while, but I don't know what her status is now.

By Benn on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 2:54 am:

Well, for one thing, there is a mini-series - Elektra: The Hand - that either is about to finish up or already has ended. And as far as I know, Elektra is still being published. I'm way behind on it. (Not having a comic shop handy to keep up on things will do that to you, y'know.)

By Brian Webber, Tangent Boy on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 9:53 pm:

Benn: Not having money hurst too. I'm about 12 isues down on Green Arrow. :(

Ooh, there's a movie idea. A modernd ay Robin Hood story, that also pokes fun at Robin Hood in a tounge in cheek manner. And of course Righties would hate the character on principle! SOMEBODY MAKE THAT MOVIE! :)

Talk about a one track mind. Geez, Brian. Give it a rest. Not every flamin' post of yours has to have political content, does it?

(Yes, I'm cranky. I'm just coming off a 16 hour shift. It's waaay past my bed-time.) (And if my spelling and grammar are anywhere near correct, it's a miracle. My mind is more than just a little close to shutting down.)

By Brian Webber on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 6:38 am:

Apart from that sentence show me anything that ISN'T about Green Arrow in that post.

Actually, no EVEN that sentence applies. Green Arrow/Oliver Queen is a dyed in the wool Leftie. In the comics he goes after corrupt businessmen at every opportunity, and refers to cops as "blue fasicts."

By Benn on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 11:43 am:

Easy. This: "Benn: Not having money hurst too.

And yeah, I know Oliver Queen is a left-winger. So? Was it necessary to bring up conversatives in talking about a possible Green Arrow movie? It just seems like every time you make a post, you make an anti-right-wing/anti-Bush/"Bush really lost the elections" comment.

And as far as disliking a Green Arrow movie on principal. Yeah, I would. But that's because I really don't like superheroes whose powers are they have a bow and arrow. I'm sorry, but I really don't see it as realistic. Conventional arrows will almost certainly kill or maim. The more exotic arrows that Hawkeye and Green Arrow tote in their quivers, seem to be too bulky to allow for much in the way of an arsenal. And a quiver can only hold so many arrows. What happens is Clint Barton or Oliver Queen use up all their arrows? Oops. The bad guy wins. My dislike of Green Arrow has nothing to do with his politics. (Although Frank Miller portrayed him as an obnoxious self-righteous leftie in The Dark Knight Returns.)

By Phil Cobb on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 11:54 am:

What about me?

(can you get this reference, Benn?) :)

By Benn on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 12:09 pm:

Nope. 'Fraid I don't get the reference. Though I probably should. Sorry.

By MikeC on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 12:39 pm:

I'm shocked (SHOCKED) that you forgot Batman's arch-villain, the Blue Bowman, a.k.a. Phil Cobb, a.k.a. Signalman!

By Benn on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 12:50 pm:

Probably because I've only read one comic (Detective Comics #466) with Signalman in it. Add to that fact, that I'm not that much of a DC fan (although I do have a fairly decent amount of comics with Bats in 'em), and well, it's not that surprising, is it? No,w if we had been talking about a Marvel Comics reference...

(I may just have to re-read Detective #466 at that.)

By Benn on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 12:54 pm:

Ugh. Seems I misplaced a comma in my previous post. God, do I hate when I do something stupid like that.

By MikeC on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 1:11 pm:

Well, how about Daredevil's arch-villain Crossbow then? :)

By Benn on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 7:40 pm:

From what I can tell, Crossbow's only appeared in three issues of Daredevil. I haven't read a one of them. (Ironically, though, I did read a couple of issues of DD today: #93 and 94.)

"Sin City" does look like it's going to be very good....

Sorry, I was just commenting on the review.

Watch the first five minutes here.

By tim gueguen on Sunday, February 27, 2005 - 2:52 pm:

Saw it at the cheap theatre on Thursday. It wasn't the horror some of the talk made me think it would be, but it was kind of lifeless. The badguys for example were largely cardboard cutouts with no real personality.

The scene where Stick kicks Elektra out of his martial arts school struck me as odd. Instead of Elektra being understandably pissed off she looks like she's about to break into tears, as if someone had told her a beloved family member had died. Or perhaps a better description is that she looks like a teenage girl who's just been told her boyfriend is cheating on her.

Is it just me or does Gardner seem to walk with a really exaggerated sway of her hips in several places in this flick?

When Tatoo or whatever his name is lets loose all those snakes it made me think of a somewhat similar scene in the anime Ninja Scroll, where a tatooed ninja woman's snake tatoo comes alive to attack the hero.

The actor who plays what I assume is Elektra's father in the flashbacks doesn't look or sound much like the actor who played her father in Daredevil.

Before I rent this, can somebody just cut to the chase for me and tell me if Elektra and Typhoid Mary actually kiss?

By Anonymous on Sunday, April 17, 2005 - 3:23 pm:

Let's hope not

By R on Sunday, April 17, 2005 - 8:33 pm:

Yes Elektra and Mary not only kiss they do so for at least a minute on screen. In slow motion. In CLose up.

By Anonymous on Monday, April 18, 2005 - 10:15 am:

BLOCKBUSTER, HERE I COME! WOOOO!

By R on Monday, April 18, 2005 - 7:31 pm:

Easy now.

By Matt Pesti on Thursday, August 04, 2005 - 7:53 am:

Bucky is coming back. Apparently he has been in rehabilitation since the end of World War II (whenever that was, I'm not sure how much Marvel time has passed since Avengers #4), and now is returning as "The Winter Solider."

By Zarm Rkeeg on Thursday, August 04, 2005 - 12:49 pm:

?!??!?!?!?!?!!!!

When's Uncle Ben's clone showing up?

By Matt Pesti on Friday, August 12, 2005 - 12:00 pm:

Ask the Jackyl.
