What's Your DVD Profiler?

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Movies: The Cutting Room Floor (The Movies Kitchen Sink): DVDs & Easter Eggs: What's Your DVD Profiler?

There's a program that you can download and record all the DVDs that you have in your collection. I dunno how old it is, and it takes some getting used to, such as learning how to enter DVDs, which you can do by title or more accurately UPC code since it gives you the exact version you have instead of your having to pick from sometimes a wide range of choices, although in that case you can narrow it down somewhat by region. You can sign up for it at Intervocative.com from which you can download the DVD Profiler. The DP will list titles in the order you enter them but you can have the online collection arrange them in alphabetical order if you wish. Anyway, here's mine. So far I've got 235 titles, whether single discs or multi-disc sets of two or more. The highest number of 239 is a bit misleading cuz I had a few doubles, which I've since deleted. I added 3 more new titles tonight.

Oh, I thought it was going to be a profiler by examining all the titles you enter and coming back with "You are prone to flights of fancy, like long walks in the park, have a preference for dark-haired women, and lean more toward liberal than conservative. You may also be interested in these titles --- " Oh, wait. Amazon.com already does that!

I keep mine in alphabetical order but now that I've filled up a bookcase I'm having to lay them down on top of the proper rows until I get another one.

Yeah, I've got two 6' tall bookshelves full of...um, well...books! ;)

And tonight I just added two more DVDs to my collection: Havana and Street Fighter, but only cuz they were $5.99 each at Best Buy and both have Raul Julia.

Well, I never buy a bad movie just because a star I like is in it, no matter how cheap it is. Ever seen "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank"?

Never heard of it, no.

Ever heard of Blood Moon, aka Wolf Girl? It stars Tim Curry and is actually quite good, as long as you don't mind one scene having full frontal male nudity, though at least you do get to see the wolf girl, Tara, nude for much longer. It's basically sort of a werewolf in reverse story, wherein a girl, who lives with a traveling sideshow that's full of real-life freaks (their word, not mine), is born with excessive body hair and then later she meets a geek who creates a formula that reduces that hair, and while it works the bad news is that the more hair she loses the more animalisitic she becomes and loses her humanity as a result. I'd never thought or even heard of that in any film before so I found it to be original. I got the only copy that my Circuit City had and if it's too hard for you to find it there to buy or rent then try Amazon.com, though you'll pay more than I did, a mere $6.99+tax.

Very good film that I highly recommend.

Here it is...
Overdrawn at the Memory Bank review

I saw it when it was first on PBS, didn't think much about it either way. But the review (as are most on this site) was amusing.

Twelve pages for one review? I only got to partway into page 2! :)

By Influx on Friday, March 18, 2005 - 12:51 pm:

Oh, it's a great time-wasting site. They certainly go into detail on every single scene, for nearly every movie that's reviewed. (Wrenching it back slightly on-topic...) It would be nice if some DVD commentaries were so detailed.

I saw Overdrawn at the Memory Bank once. It was on MST3k. Deservedly so.

I read the one for the movie, Lost In Space. Surprisingly it took me about an hour for only six pages! Brought back a few memories of seeing it upon its initial release, too, like how much I hated the stupid time travel faux pas in it.
